chkil:Egypt is in another level. When i say impressive, ofcourse you know Egypt isn't mentioned in the scale i've used. The Egyptian Air Force would make even your Algerian fleet pee in their pants. 1.3 billion in U.S aid is a lot of money. I do feel there (Egyptian) military is way too large though. |

Sahrawi People's Liberation Army But they are not rebels. Well at least to Nigeria and the rest of africa. I think only morrocco sees them as rebels They have a diplomatic mission in Nigeria realnas: |

Henry240:yeah true ! egypt is far ahead , but they have israel near them , so having a fleet of 400 , 500 fighter is useless and wasting money for countries like algeria morocco nigeria south africa , they haven't the same geopolitic situation ! for our countries having a good air defense system next a little good fighter fleet is more important ! |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 7:36pm On May 09, 2016 |
chkil:I don't think any african country need more than 50 fighter (minus trainers) except Egypt. Even Algerian airforce to me bought more than it needs except they are seeing Egypt as a treat. |

Iblawi1:no when Algeria was drowning in the bath of terrorist blood we was under embargo from 1990 to 2002 , our weapons was old, hardly maintained and obsolet, 80th sovietics weapons like the libya weapons and khaddafi when they lift the embargo on them , 15 years in military technology it's a delay century , so it was an urgency for algeria to replace it's old equipment and upgrade what was in service , if we see algerian equipement mig 25/ sukhoi 24/ mig 29 even if they were upgraded they are at end of life , they will be removed from service within the next 10 years maximum , the same for many equipment in navy or ground army + algeria havnt the same geopolitics like nigeria we have NATO in front and some historic clash with france , they like to interfere in the democracy of neighboors ( like they did in libya) . |

chkil:True. I agree. Good Air Defence system and a fleet of 48 fighter jets is ideal. |

Oga Chkil, do you have any declassified materials on how algeria fought the counter-insurgency wars of the 90's? I find it truly mesmerizing how algeria managed to fight that war against ALL odds. The lessons of the war should be taught in Nigerian defence academies and staff colleges. It mirrors the same thing Nigeria went through at the hands of so-called allies in the west. I still believe Nigeria has a lot to learn from Algeria in COIN wars. Instead of having americans teach Nigerian soldiers how to march in straight lines, we should be sending battalion strengths for COIN training in Algerian deserts... chkil: |

rugged7:I think the war against boko haram is a much greater scale than terrorism in Algeria in 90th , but the next phase that will face the Nigerian army after having destroyed the large terrorist base will be the same which experienced Algeria , small pockets of resistance and terrorist guerilla hidden in the mountains, forest committing sneaky attacks, bombings and ambush against army and civilian . i think the algerian experience can help and not only the military strategy but also the political and economic solution that used Algeria , because what is certain is to finish with terrorism and insurgency use only the strength is not enough . for exemple Algeria offered forgiveness to the terrorists who have no blood on their hands , as part of a national reconciliation project, and has applied economic, social and religious solutions in the poor area in which terrorist was recruiting before . |

Xbee007:God bless you for dis question |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 10:27pm On May 09, 2016 |
realnas:honestly , I'm not an expert on this subject, but what I know is that Morocco has built a protective wall in 80th to stop the Saharawi attack (in red on the map) , so the territories below the wall are controlled by the Saharawi and there are several observation point on both sides of the UN mission MINUSMA (blue flag on the map) , there is a refugee camp sahraoui in algeria in tindouf ( red flag on the map) and Algeria supports sahraoui . there is also diplomatic agreement between Morocco and Western Sahara ( ONU) , so their was no military confrontation in this last 20 years . so for your question , i think for the mobility they can move in the south of the moroccan wall and in the algerian borders

I felt ashamed and intimidated when I say the assets the Western Sahara separatists were fielding vis-a-vis what Nigeria fields considering that Nigeria is an independent resource rich nation. I believe the Nigerian leadership just lacks the will to upgrade it's defense capabilities. Shame. |

chkil:this is something i have being wanting to highlight ,most of you nigerians have being talking of success but i can tell you your far from success.there is no way boko haram will confront a well armed mechanised force, some will run others returning to their civilian lives.waiting for the moment to strike.capturing territory is the easy part, keeping it secure is the next big challenge. looking at what is happening in the Niger delta you still have a long way to go |
