I have another more general remark for anyone that's interested. I've subconsciously noticed how the sentence structure of most Igbo dialects when speaking in the first-person singular voice of the past tense follows the trend: (verb) + (subject) ex: Emere m ya (I did it) instead of (subject) + (verb) ex: M mere ya (I did it) From a Cross Riverian perspective, both cases are perfectly normal. However, I don't think the same holds for many Igbo speakers elsewhere throughout Igboland. My intuition tells me that it would be more likely for someone from Enugwu-Agidi or Ikeduru to say 'emelu m ya' and 'emere m ya', respectively, as opposed to 'm melu ya' and 'm mere ya'. Does anyone else share similar thoughts or have any other ideas? 1 Like |

Are there any news articles or books written in igbo you guys recommend. I'm trying to get my reading comprehension down and particularly read out loud to practice my pronunciation and rhythm. And any podcasts you guys are aware of will help too. Thank You! |

35 - 45%? That means you understood over half of what was said. Dang... I should have been much more obscure with my speech, but then I'd also run the risk of even Odumchi not understanding me. Oh well. Compromises have to be made, I guess. |

By the way, does anyone know of any good, active and exclusively Igbo forums with reasonable members who are open to discussion? I quite literally have multiple, personal notebooks and journals worth of information concerning language development that I feel the urge to share and discuss. Or at least, theories concerning Igbo language development that I feel the urge to prove or disprove, using my family as a case-in-point. I feel as though such a topic would be wasted here on NL. I'd just like to find people who are going to make such a topic seem worthwhile to me. |
