Militants Bomb Ogbembiri Agip Gas Pipeline by kogistar: 9:28pm On May 17, 2016
There were indications on Tuesday evening that militants operating in the Niger Delta may have again blown up a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) at Ogbembiri in Southern Ijaw local government area, Bayelsa State.

It would be more than a dozen times that the oil and gas facilities belonging to the Italian Oil giant would be breached this year alone.

The fresh attack by gunmen, it was learnt, occurred on the pipeline about 48 hours ago, which raised questions within the community as to why security agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting oil installations had been unable to stop the frequent breaches.

Suspected ex-militants also recently attacked a pipeline carrying crude, located at Brass Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State, spilling the substance into the environment.

During the latest attack, the gunmen reportedly stormed the community at about 9:00pm, traced the pipeline and ruptured it at a point it was previously repaired after the last attack.

While some sources said dynamites were used to blow the pipeline, others said the gunmen deployed other mechanical devices to rupture the line along the axis.

The pipeline said to be a major gas supply facility in the country, reportedly crosses Tumor community in Bomadi, Delta State; Ogbuasiri in Ekeremor and Ogbembiri in Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa State.

“Agip awarded the contract for security surveillance and repairs of the pipeline in case of a breach to a contractor from the community.

“So, the contractor enjoys dual contract of protecting the pipeline and also repairing it whenever there is a leakage. But it is baffling how the pipeline increasingly comes under attack’’, a source said.

He added that the facility, “ is a major pipeline because it supplies gas for domestic consumption’’, noting that ‘’Agip has spent a lot of money fixing it.”

While the pipeline is said to be relatively safe in other communities, it has continued to be incessantly attacked at the Southern Ijaw community, the source noted.

Hmmm what the FG does'nt know is that dialogue is the key, more groups are springing up everyday not just the Avengers, Niger Deltans are angry the Northerners and westerners are controlling the oil blocs and oil industry as a whole thereby making it very difficult for the youths of the Niger Delta to work in the multinational oil firms operating in our State, if any of you people are here you will weep but there's nothing you can do. If you have'nt been to the Niger Delta before we don't have other companies like in Lagos, Ogun, Ibadan even Kano, what we have is only the oil firms and government work. Let me give you people an example, i personally graduated with B.ENG in Petroleum Engineering till today no job but the multinationals in my state are hiring on monthly basis some as contract staffs we here no job, just because the companies headquaters is in lagos you hire them there send them to our community to work.

Thats a complete lie. Niger Deltans get all the jobs but resell them to other Nigerians willing to work. They prefer selling to Yoruba than Igbo but Igbos offer better amount and conditions. The problem of Niger Delta (especially pure Ijaw found in Delta and Bayelsa) is that belief of reaping without sweat.

Sometimes I wonder how people like you breaths..
Maybe from the anus...

Bla Bla Bla.. Must you jump on topics you clearly lack insights on and vent all your ignorance in seconds??

See how you simply, cast down a whole people, with professors, professionals, successful entrepreneurs, powerful business men and women Etc. with identifiable excellence in almost all works of life out of hate..SMH for you..

You mention people's tribes so easily as if you are anything anyone should be concerned abt..

You are probably one chap with a bonus data, frustrated and hungry sitting by the fence of your dilapidated 'yard' to type rotten trash abt everyone's tribe eccept yours...

For those of us complaining, hope u know there is no power (NEPA light) in our areas, lol, truth be told, there won't be power if the destruction by these "naughty and misguided" political thugs called militants or avengers keep bombing pipelines and other important asset. Our crude oil production has drited from over 2million per day to around 1.4million per day. Now see, who is undoing themselves? Its easy to shift blames and rant, but bro and sis, it ain't gonna solve nada if we don't come together to condemn this act of terrorism. Change actually begins with you and I.....but if you want to continue seating in front of your system at your AC fitted office and using your company's data to type whatever criticism comes to your mind, then be my guest.

When will these southern Ijaw thugs have sense ?? The contracted security agents are not doing their job well. This incessant attacks on this particular pipeline should be a thing of concern for the federal govt now .. we would be put into nationwide blackout again because of some cursed Niger delta hoodlums ... God help Naija!!!

Buhari is a very shallow minded individual with a mental faculty incapable of deeply proceesing issues & analysing situations properly.

We had an indigineous oil pipeline protection contract with locals & indigeneous millitias like ex-millitants & OPC that appeared to have restored sanity on the pipelines to an extent.
Buhari assumes office on May 29 & by 31st, he announces a termination of the security contracts without a proper analysis of 1, the security implications of it, - 2, the difficult topography of the swamps of the Niger Delta region, - 3, the obvious incapacity & lack of skill by our ill equipped & poorly trained armed forces to protect those pipelines, - 4, the possibility of bringing those millitias into a collaboration with the millitary & not disrupt oil exploration.

Worse still, he carries out a poorly adviced aeriel bombardment of the region with no millitary recon precision his first month in office with an obvious intention of cowing those millitants that 'a new sherrif is in town'.

As we speak, pipeline vandalism is still ongoing in Arepo Ogun state & the millitary is looking on helplessly.
