FINALLY! Wonder why it took FG so long to do this! For those saying they don't have jurisdiction over freezing accounts outside nigeria. Says who? FG can work with other world governments to freeze and repartriate stolen funds.

Asset freezing is a legal process which prevents a defendant (usually an apparent fraudster) [1] to an action from dissipating their assets from beyond the jurisdiction of a court so as to frustrate a potential judgment . It is widely recognised in other common law jurisdictions [2] and such orders can be made to have world-wide effect. It is variously construed as part of a court's inherent jurisdiction to restrain breaches of its process . The jurisdiction arises in part from the Judicature Act 1873 , which provided that "A mandamus or an injunction may be granted or a receiver appointed by an interlocutory Order of the Court in all cases in which it shall appear to the Court to be just or convenient..." Relying on this, Jessel MR in 1878 declared, "I have unlimited power to grant an injunction in any case where it would be right or just to do so..."

It is very easy to secure the oluwole injuction anyway, the enforcement is another matter entirely

Dont display IGNORANCE on NL.

The Nigerian Court, through the Nigerian Govt, will simply apply to foreign Govts where these assets are located, to enforce such Court Order.

It will also be passed to the Interpol, if they need to arrest him, by issuing a Warrant of Arrest, incase he goes under-ground.

Pa Chukwudi44, why are you always in support of corrupt criminals? You have opposed all the efforts of this government to prosecute and recover stolen assets from people who almost ruined this country with their greed. Seriously, do they pay you to do this or you just love to defend corrupt criminals?
That's because it's a selective prosecution. Why is Tinubu and Ameachi, Fashola's assets not frozen and thrown behind. Bars?

The Aluko family is a criminal enterprise starting from their patriarch Sam Aluko who was the brain behind £20 to Biafrans after the civil war. I guess the sins of the father is following the offsprings and relations around. There is no rest for the wicked. The first son Bolaji was recently fired as the VC of Fed. University, Otuoke. The sad thing is Nigerians refuses to believe these people are looters. They refuse to target these people that have milked the country dry. They refuse to hold these thieves responsible. Many folks that are poor and suffering in this NL will still be defending all these rogues. We cannot blame Buhari for all the decay that have been going on in this country. The country is broke. The country was looted. No country can survive after such a long bleeding. Buhari has his own problems. But we can't just brush away the terrible things the past looters have done to this country.

People should stop defending these thieves that stole the country resources. I can foresee the day the ex-con, thief, James Ibori is release from UK prison. Some people will go and welcome him. Delta state will be a gorged with drums and dance. He will have a rosy welcome. His cronies, poor and ignorant will welcome him in as far a food and drinks will be served. It's pathetic.

Pls answer this, if the court in Nigeria doesnt OK, an extraditction of a Nigerian to another country, can Interpol just come in & swipe him off?

so also nigeria can not approach the foreign asset recovery team without showing paper work from our court's. it's a start

if you do, kindly tell us the steps involved when assets are to be seized in a foreign country

They are not even related.

Also, I did a little research on how much £20 from 1969 is and discovered it's present value is approximately £230 of today.

230 = 103, 500 Naira today.

That is at 450 Naira to the pound.

103,000 Naira is not a lot but not a child's play when you consider how many are to be paid out.

Many must have made losses yet it was a tidy little sum.

Considering this was after a long war that affected finances of both parties it may not have been easier to come up with a figure that's achievable.

If the nigerian government think they have a case against him, they would have to involve interpol who after investigations and having been satisfied that a prima facie case has been established against him goes to a court of competent jurisdiction to secure an arrest, search warrant or mareva injunction to freeze his assets!!

They will not just freeze his assets because a Nigerian court so orders.Even President Obama cannot order the freezing of anyone's asset without an order from a court of competent jurisdiction!! Don't forget Omokore will definitely lawyer up and he can definitely afford a damn good one

Here's the simple fact of the situation. The assets in the United States are only six which by estimate wouldn't exceed the $150 million mark at approximately $25 million each, give or take. Both of them don't have an offshore account in the states in a bid to avoid IRS and the scrutiny of the CIA, which would be their undoing. Its a simple case of diplomatic lobbying to get them extradited to Nigeria or get the feds to get them on money laundry charges and poof, they are sent to Nigeria.

Assets owned by them can't be leased or sold neither can it be used as collateral for loans, they can only access funds in investment funds (if they have one).

Even if the assets in the states are tied up in the courts which I doubt, it only accounts for approximately 11.1% of the total funds, so not a bug deal if the bulk of the money in Europe can be accessed.
