Few years ago, you could get these for 5 for a £1. These are the cheaper variety, good quality tomatoes will cost you about 85p for a tin.

it's just ridiculous. In my house in ibadan, I used to have a small tomato farm. You see tomato is a very resilient plant. Almost like a weed. I wonder why people cannot plant tomato in their backyards like someone suggested.

I have been to the US, and live in UK, you cannot compare. Food is cheaper in US, i was surprised the amount of meat and vegetables i could get for a few dollars in NY and Texas.. Trust me, quality tomato will cost you good money in UK. You will notice the difference when you cook with them. The one OP posted are what we call value tomatoes..

I just have to laugh out loud at this... we import petrol and tomatoes... in a country that has oil underground and more arable land than England.
Mismanagement of resources is not good at all...
