Medical Specialties

I cant sleep, i dont know why?
Am i depressed??
Is this the right path for me??
Or i still haven’t adapted to the circadian rhythm of a house boy??

Hmmmmmm….
Anyway, lets talk about the Medical Specialties!!!

1) Anaesthetiologists: they are always in the theatre, they assist the surgeons in giving the anaesthetic (a drug to paralyze and hypnotize the patient) and monitor the vital signs. They also do pre-op and post-op monitoring

2) Community health physicians: they believe in “prevention is better than cure” they are posted to primary health centres, give health talks on hygiene, immunization, family planning, etc…

3) Internal physicians: these are the physicians, they treat without surgery, they have their specialties, which we’ll discuss later

4) Otolaryngologists: they specialize in the ear, nose and throat, they are surgeons too

5) Ophthalmologists: these are also surgeons that specialize in eye diseases

6) Obstetricians/gynecologists: they specialize in women disorders. Obstetricians deals mainly with pregnant women

7) Pediatricians: they specialize in children only, how sweet!!!

8 ) Radiologists:More on specialties

To the best of my knowledge, there are no specialties in anatomy. You can either perfect in a particular subject of interest in an MSc or PhD programme. Anatomy graduates don't go for housemanship.

You can use it to do something... but mostly is lecturing. Start as a graduate assistant, further your studies, apply for medicine or dentistry if you like. But apart from that I don't know what you can do with it.
But na lecturing sure pass, our anatomy lecturer was a banker before he got a lecturing job here. I don't know what exactly you want sha... make I leave the floor for ma bosses to... grin

Funny enough, I'm an anatomy graduate. What Dbrainiac1 said is very true. Either you go back to school for medicine, dentistry or lecturing(MSc)(PhD). Or just lol... It's painful to work hard n come out with a first class in anatomy, only to find out you can't do anything tangible with it in Nigeria, only the above mentioned paths can be taken, unlike your engineering, economics or accountancy first class graduates counterparts that have first class opportunities waiting for them, as a reward for hardwork, there is nothing like reward for hardwork in anatomy. The only reward is when people respect you as a first class graduate of anatomy, which won't put money on your table. But you'll do IT. in your year three.

Ai lost interest too. It's normal. Anatomy taught me how to sit down and read my books. Anatomy taught my how to answer questions in exam. All anatomy needs from you is Read Read Read and draw draw draw. I've told you over and over again, there is no job description for an anatomist. Stop building castles in the air. You end up working as something else, a banker especially. Or a teacher.

You can do masters not sure about PhD in anatomy. That way, you can teach med students and even become a professor if you know your onus

That's what I'm telling the guy. Apart from lecturing, there's no tangible job description for an anatomist, except you divert into Medicine, dentistry, banking or teaching(secondary school)

4yrs anatomy+one year miscellaneous breaks+one year nysc+4/5yrs medicine=10/11years minimum... That's if you scale through anatomy and medical school without repeating any exam and you get admission immediately you tidy up nysc. You will start in year 2 or 4,depending on if the new curriculum is implemented.

That's not fair! Why should someone read anatomy for 5yrs? When there are professional courses(same 5yrs) like radiography, medical laboratory science, nursing, etc... That's pure waste of time, money and energy.

I KNOW BUT I THINK IT HAS BEEN CHANGED BY THE NUC THIS YEAR. MEDICAL STUDENTS ARE NOW TO STUDY BASIC MEDICAL SECINCES 'BIOCHEMISTRY, ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY FROM 100 LEVEL TO 400 LEVEL THEN THEY BAG A DEGREE FROM THISE COURSES AFTER WHICH THEY ARE ALLOWED TO GO INTO THE MEDICAL SCHOOL FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS.

SO MY QUESTION IS * CAN A DIRECT ENTRY STUDENT BE ADMITTED INTO 500LEVEL INSTEAD OF 200LEVEL AS IT WAS BEFORE?

Oboy eh, funny , 500level, just calm down , even the proposed starting from 400level is not certain, I doubt if u ll see something like yes or no to ur answer , just do whatever u wanna do , take the necessary forms , we will know better after the next direct entry admission.

why not start from 600 lvl then? They will have to write their first MBBS exams in their 400lvl I guess(I am already through with my studies but that should be the way it will be), so you can't skip the first MBBS and enter your 500lvl. You will have to attend the 400lvl lectures, write the MBBS that follows and pass then you can tidy the rest,so probably 4 years

Why jump into conclusion?Mdcn has the final say and they rejected the proposal. We need quality and elongation. And for Direct entry 400/500L issh, that's reasonable.

you can say that again. I've gotten into the system before i realized. FUTA runs her courses for a duration of 5 pure yrs. though, Anatomy is newly introduced, it's sure won't be an exception

. Honestly it makes no sense to me... studying human anatomy for 5years... Imagine! After the five years, no job description waiting for you as an 'anatomist' even with your first class. Sooo annoying. Ai hope you want to be a lecturer, banker, teacher, dentist or doctor..!
