Welcome to Taraba State. Journey from South West, South East and South South are all 2days journey. Good camp but the long journey is disgusting. Anyway na part of national service. say me well to Adamawa State Coord. Mr Umaru Joro Daniel. His phonetic will amuse u. I represent 15A batch.

Seems you don't know what Adamawa nysc did to the batch B stream 2 corpers last year . All who applied for relocation were given states they did not apply for. Imagine being relocated to Sokoto or Kebbi instead of Anambra or Imo instead of Oyo state( It was a frustration tactic). That was what Adamawa Nysc did to ALL her Batch B stream II corpers who applied for relocation. We had over 200 corpers who cancelled their relocation applications . It took more than 2 months before their applications for cancellation was accepted from above-HQ. Moreover nothing they happen here again. So before you rejoice, think twice

PART 5 continuation

As today was our swearing-in, the governor of Adamawa state was going to be present. We left to the parade ground by 10:15am. We formed a line in our various platoons and someone(cant remember who he was) came and apologized on behalf of the governor's office that the the governor would be running late. And We should wait on the parade ground a while.(Ahn ahn! Why we no fit go wait for our rooms ni? Mstchww). 10:15 turned to 11:15 which also turned to 12:15. Two hours of hanging around. Some sitting while some standing. I sat on a brick stone,slept briefly twice and woke again, yet no governor. My ass was burning like hell. Which kain naija governor be this wey no dey keep to time. I was hungry and sleepy. Two dangerous combinations. Some tried leaving the parade ground with excuses like peeing, being thirsty,etc. Story for the ancestors!!! Only a few very lucky ones were allowed to pass. But at some point those selling pure water, drinks, snacks and the rest were allowed to come sell to us.By 1pm now, i already looked at my watch and tried coming up with a lie. Yes! Perharps if i told a soldier that i had to take my drugs by 1pm and it was in my room he would let me pass. As i was trying to perfect the lie, i looked up in the sky and there, a private jet passed over our heads heading for the airport close to the camp(first time i ever saw one so up close). Well no need lying seeing as the governor has arrived. Minutes passed and the governor never reach the parade ground. Kai menini!!! 2pm and we were asked to form our usual line. You wouldnt believe that the governor no even com sef. A representative was sent. So we basically spent hours waiting for a representive. If na d governor com dey show nko, na days we for wait.
Well, we did the routine we had pracitced for the past two days, was addressed by the representative and then we swore in. By 3pm, the whole stuff had ended. We were allowed to leave but had to return by 5pm(Not again!!! ). Lunch was beans and garri so i just went to mammy market and ate jollof and fried rice,coleslaw and meat for #350. Chai! Went to my room to rest but it didnt last long. It was 5pm. I just jejely walked there myself cos i didnt have the strength to be pursued. The weather was cold. Seemed like it was about to rain(well....maybe it was a blessing). And it was. Thirty five minutes later we were dismissed cos it started to drizzle. For my mind i was like TGIR(Thank God it's raining ). We retired to our rooms, i took off my shoes and i just went straight into a deep sleep. The weather was so lovely. Cool and a lil bit dark.
I woke up to a very mouth watering aroma. Looked around and saw one of my roomies eating rice and stew. Abeg na camp food be that? She said 'yes, i woke you up but you didnt answer'. Hmmmm i must have been sleeping like a log of wood. It was still raining so i took my umbrella(yes! I brought an umbrella. I always come prepared ) and went to the dining just to meet the longest queue ever. Shuu!!! Because of rice and stew? One of my roomies and platoon member was in the middle so i just begged her instead, collected my food and it was really delicious. Really! Then i had my bath, cleaned my shoes and laid on my bed gisting you guys. Then this elderly woman just came and wants us to come outside so she came address us. Story!!! Im still typing on my phone cos i love you guys. Goodnight.

You are right, thank you. Next? I served in Yobe in 2006 (Year Of Beautiful Experience). I can relate with her gist especially on relationship with the soldiers and their slangs "jam that patako, FG go replace am, otondo corper, etc, camp foods (brabisco) and more memorable was the day the camp was surrounded by the almajieries screaming Alhau Akbar preparing for jihad against us.

By the way where and when did you serve?

I schooled in the UK my brother (2001 grad. Engr. Major). I didn't serve any baga.

As we squated,the soldier asked us why we were here? For my mind i just be like, "shuu!!! wettin pesin dey do for mammy market ni". Anyho to cut long story short, he punished us cos according to him we were slim fitting our khaki while a "supposed" parade (that we werent INFORMED about) was going on. From that very point he asked us to "double up!"(run). Omor see different Usain Bolt sha. After we went to our hostels to change, dem no even give us time sef. Dem just bust the doors like Rambo,screaming and banging things. See another second lap of running.
At the parade ground we went to our stationed platoons and formed three lines. As for me ,front line no go see me even as i small reach. We were given a little orientation by Last Cobra Franklyn(or so I think his name is). This guy just dey address us with names like baggar,cockroach, mumu corpers,otondo,monkey, white tolotolo,etc. Omor see names. Every platoon did punishment at some point when he asked us his name and we didnt know it. But he is a funny guy in general though.
Then time for marching. Ghen ghen!!! We literally marched for like 4 hours ,standing under the hot sun screaming "hurray!, Yes sir!, We b mumu corpers!" Ehnnn i no just fit laugh. That pounded yam i swallow really sustain me. But see girls fainting, even the ones wey real o and ones wey dey fake. I be wan faint my own then one soldier talk say those with medical issues wont march but do sanitary duties. For where!!! I rather march than wash any mumu toilet, thank you. After getting there by like 2pm, they now decided to let us go by around 6pm. Chai!!! I couldnt even walk to my room. For some reason i had strength to wash my shoes and clean my corner in my room.
Later in the evening we were called for dinner. Saltless jollof rice and fish was what we ate. I didnt even finish mine. Then i trekked all the way to male hostel just to fetch water for bathing. The water situation here is terrible. Still had to stand in a long queue for my turn to fetch water. Well i sha had my bath, laid on my bed and started gisting y'all my Part 3.

I was a 2008 Tarabs Corper. Op I feel u. But there is more to d wahala. Prepare for "Fire alarm, endurance trek n more stressful parade". After d first week, believe me u wud enjoy camp n wish it wud be more dan 3weeks. Enjoy ur stay as Camp life is one of d best experience.

Camp food bawo! Na mammy things ooo. Budget 1k daily for meals

I served in Taraba state 2012, Batch C. The camp was at Govt sec. school, Jalingo then. It took us 16 hours to get to Jalingo from Port Harcourt. It wasn't an easy journey shaa. We got to camp by 11pm and no where to sleep. We had to sit and sleep. Although I went to camp 2 days after swearing in ceremony. Camp was fun shaa. Plenty cash went down. No time for that nonsense food. I didn't redeploy shaa. My service year was fun. Enjoy Taraba but make them no post you go rural area cos e no go make sense. I experienced 2 bloody crisis at wukari before I was reposted to one rural area after Jalingo. But I didn't stay there.I shuttled from Jalingo. Enjoy Taraba.

I graduated from Unizik and served at Taraba state too, 2012 batch A. Taraba state is interesting, my PPA was at Gashaka local govt. Serti-Baruwa to be precised.

JessiliciousJes's: Nice thread and a cool way to unwind for you and us. I got interested in your story because, like you, I camped in TR and served there as well. That was 6 years ago, and the nysc camp then was within the Polytechnic, Wukari.

I had a lot of thrilling experience and stories to tell by the time I completed the year.

If you stay back for your service year after camp, try to set aside time and some money to visit these places:

1) Gashaka-Gumpti National Park

2) Mambilla Plateau (Popularly called Gembu). You will definitely hear about Gembu in camp. You may also hear about 'Snake Island' (Karim Lamido, where I served).

Guess what, a huge snake actually resided behind my apartment throughout my service year, but we gave each other mutual respect. Anytime I saw it, I never tried to attack it and it reciprocated my kind gesture till I left
I wish you a successful service year.

I was posted to taraba in 2012 it was fun for me though I had the same thought but I was mingle with everybody in my platoon to become sub commandant of my platoon. Lucky for I posted to Iware A 30min drive away from Jalingo so I based in. Winner corper Jalingo

The kind of life u will enjoy in Taraba will be amazing, I served in Taraba 2010 batch A, I served in an hotel in magami beside Zenth bank Jalingo. I really I enjoyed my service year in Jalingo, I didn't traveled at all, i even participated in inec registration exercise and earned my cool money, I even waited for election in 2011....... Chai I really enjoy myself in Jalingo, mind you I didn't pay kobo for accommodation bcs I lived in hotel. meanwhile Jalingo is too expensive.

U r lucky to have d network strength dt can browse. I camp there 2015 stream 2, I spent 3wks without accessing the net. Bt water and light was never a problem through out.

So sorry for not writing last night. I was so tired. Plus network dey f**k up for this side.
Well, yesterday, i woke up by 1am as usual. After having my bath, i was shaking like a lunatic. Later, soldiers came to chase us from our hostels to the parade ground for meditation and practice. By 5:30am!!! Mehn... i don suffer no be small. We lined up in our different platoons and started the usual. Marching! Doing the same thing we did the previous day. Learning the routine we will use for our swearing-in the next day. We practiced under the hot sun for 4 hours again. By 9:30am, we were ordered to go have breakfast and return within one hour. You wont believe what these cooks decided to give us. Brown water (tea) and moulded flour(that they called bread). After that excessive practice we just did, tea and bread?! O boy, i carry myself go mammy right away and ate rice and confam palm oil stew with meat. After that, went to my room to rest. Gosh!!! My legs ached like never before. I fell into a deep sleep in a matter of seconds.
By almost 11am, my friend woke me up to wear my shoes. Bia! Na only me come dey the hostel. Everyone else had already gone and they didnt wake me. Witchcraft and wickedness. Smh. Soldiers were going from room to room. I was almost caught but God win i ran very quickly.
At the parade ground, i was just yawning and yawning. I was feeling really sleepy. We repeated the same routine till after 12pm. That was a huge relief!!! Just one hour but we were to return by 4pm. Lunch was yam porridge that i wasnt interested in.
So i decided to go open a bank account, which i did with Ecobank. By 4pm, we went to the parade ground for the final practice of the day. We practiced till after 6pm and was ordered to come to the parade ground by 8am wearing our khaki outfit the following day for our swearing-in. At night, dinner was tuwo and okro soup with a piece of meat. I have never eaten tuwo before in my life. But it was ok. Those that werent on time had the "privilege" of eating bread and okro cos the tuwo had finished. Those that came later took bread and meat. Lol. I no fit laugh

Well, i then retired to my bed after.

I camped in Taraba state too, batch A15, stream two. Those three weeks were, and still are the best 3 weeks of my life. Every single day was an amazing experience. I joined the OBS first thing on getting to camp and that decision turned out to be a masterstroke as it gave me access to everything i needed on camp. Op, enjoy your service year cos trust me, you ain't ever going to have that young wild and free feeling exactly like that ever again

Ogun Camp simply the best. Maintenance and facilities are A1.

My set was the last to camp at Government College Jalingo before the move to the permanent site. You're lucky you have toilets. For the first 3 days on camp, it was basically short put and bathing very early in the morning like 3am unless you wait till evening until they constructed make-shift pit toilets which also doubled as bathroom too. I never tasted camp food, mammy was my point of call every morning and evening. Made sure I ate something strong in the morning to sustain me till night and something normal in the evening. Camp was fun generally. I was the platoon pest. I made sure I disturbed everybody in my platoon. Then the room I was posted to, met some crazy dudes. You could leave your life savings on your bed from morning till night. if u don't find it there, someone has kept it for you. We were like 48 or so in the room, some of us are still in touch till today.

The first time I saw the snake, it was a huge, majestic, golden coloured beast (cobra). It dazzled brilliantly in the hot Taraba sun. My first instinct was to dash away as fast as possible...but I noticed the snake had already fixed its eyes on me and was studying me, I guess. I just decided not to run, lest it 'flies' and attack. Instead, we both stood looking at each other for a while, then the snake moved first. It turned away from me and crawled into the next compound. You could feel its weight as it dragged away. I heaved a sigh of relief and went my way.

Somehow, I felt if I had made any movement that day, e fit turn long tin.

Subsequently, I dey jam d snake for backyard steady, but we just dey do the normal tuale for each other.. It seemed to like coming out when it is sunny. I think it lived in the soak-away behind the house.

There were lots of snakes in Karim Lamido. A soldier even had a snake bite in my compound while lying outside at night to take fresh air due to the ambient heat. Luckily, he survived and the snake was killed

Lol... You just flashed my mind back to Asaya Camp at Kogi state. An experience that can never be forgotten... Anyway sha no go date soldier cos u won go state capital.

If possible report to camp a day to swearing in,by then d rush 4 registrations r over.Even if there are still rush just calm down n get yours done wen d rush hour is over.Do not be a hurry to change in to your white cos d r so going to drag u to parade ground dat evening 4 practice.Had friends den dat did not even stand for swearing in,d were just chilling at mammy forming d have not gotten Khaki,but immediately after swearing na to change cos d soldiers ain't smiling.

I was posted to Taraba in 2014. It was fun, then we were using Govt Sch for Jalingo as our camp, I believed the New camp is now ready.. when you reach pls my regards to state coordinator Mr Freeeman.

Taraba is a very nice place, though i couldnt make it to Gembu "Where snow falls"

But believe me Taraba camp is one of the best in the country...

They have standard website http://nysctaraba.org/ something most states lacks.

I served in Taraba in 2011 and was posted to Sardauna LG (Gembu). It was fun there but relocated back to Lagos after a month cos my parents just wont allow me stay there. Gembu is a lovely cold place where there is no fridge, they put beer in nornal water and it get cold. Our 3weeks OT camp was at Wukari and it was mad fun.
