it appears the Naira did not depreciate as much as analysts forecasted, with further clearing of the backlog by CBN it won't be surprising to see gradual appreciation of the Naira few weeks down the line... what would eventually drive the market may not be the currency depreciation (as I believe this as already being factored in with current prices) but influx of foreign investors. yields of 10% or more would be too good to be ignored by them plus the new monetary policy. |

uzoboy86yahoo:The market will revalue listed stocks following the change in monetary policy. In other words, when the true value of the Naira is determined by market forces, stock prices will readjust to reflect this change. Look at it this way, A bottle of coke sold for N150 when the Naira exchanged to the dollar at N150/$1. The Naira was then devalued to about N300/$1. You would probably not get same bottle for N150 again especially if its cost component is foreign denominated. The new price will largely depend on market forces. On the NSE, Foreign investors control a large percentage of trades. When they change their dollar to naira, they have more naira to spend and our stocks appear cheap. We should have more naira chasing stocks eventually. In fact, some countries devalue their currency to make their products appear cheap. That said, if you have positioned already please don't be in a hurry to sell. It just doesn't seem to make sense now. I feel this is that time to wait. Caveat: I am not a prophet. |

Seems like the market is eyeing FOREX trades going on... Issue of backlog still affecting trades...but CBN seems to has responded now.. Traders say FMDQ has extended trading by 2 hours to 4pm to allow for trading after the @cenbank responds to bids made earlier today. Expect more Volatility ![]() |
