I do not have the problem you do cos I don't have birds yet... The estimate I was given was

100 bags of cement
2 trailer load of 30 tonne sharp sand or stone dust
1 trailer lost of 3/4down granite and labour cost of 160k...

That's all...will send the pics before(hopefully) and after(certainly)

Hi. I'm thinking of starting a small scale broiler poultry with 10 birds. I want to start with 2 weeks old in my backyard. Will like to know the cost if a cage for them and how much for 2 week old broilers

@Hayor2014, it seems you have solution to my problems,
kindly tell me the dimension of your pen that will accommodate 4000 birds, from there i will know what i need for 2000, also, what are the measurements for gutter, space between the two cages and that from pen to cage. They Just Started Laying And The Increment Will Be Gradual. Meanwhile, Ensure Their Deworming And Lasota Is Up To Date. Ensure Their Feeding Is Adequate And There Is No Lice Infestation.

A Bag Of Feed Should Be For 200-220 Adults Birds/day Depending On The Type Of Feed.

Are you actually serious, to come get your used cage that contains 360 birds per unit for 170k while I've seen where to make new ones containing 72 birds per unit at 40k, therefore for 1000 birds would be 14 cages at 560k which is still ok considering its new.

Better go for day old chick (doc).

Having Zero Mortality In Layer Operation Is Impossible,the Aim Is To Prevent Any Major Disease Outbreaks And Watch Out For Any Symptoms. Also,dont Use A Specific Antibiotics For Too Long To Prevent Resistance.Bio-safety Is The Key Word.

Yes, assuming you already have housing for the birds. N50,000 may just be enough to raise 1 cartoon (50 DOC).

This is four (4)days since I brought my DOC broiler , I have already lost 2chicks what am I not doing right? My vet doctor prescribed these drugs, which I have been administering through their water. The pen is well heated with 2 lanterns and electric bulb, all of them look healthy now, but I I still want to nip it at the buld, should there been anything I am doing wrong.

Please what I am not doing right? Someone with experience should please help me.

Just a quick comment, This poultry industry holds a great opportunity for everyone who is willing to put their shoulders to the wheel and push along. One of the things that I noticed in my research was that it cost me about N15,000 (Fifteen thousand Naira) to raise 25 day old chicks to 2.5kg within 7 weeks. I am thinking very very small scale project to teach people how they can do this, and they can turn around and sell the chicken for about N850/kg which will give them about N2,125 estimate par bird. Multiple that by 25 birds, that will give you N53,125. Some people work as a gas station attendant and makes about N15k/month that means N30k in 2 months. or a new graduate who will spend the next 2 years looking for work. These individuals could be trained on how to do this and they will be their own BOSS with enough time in the day to do other things they like and at the same time growing their poultry business. From 25 birds, they can increase their next set to 30, 40, 50 birds and the growth will continue.

The comfort here is that the Nigerian population will swallow any quantity you throw at them, so it doesn't matter how many people are involved in this industry, of course the game will then becomes marketing, products differentiation and packaging. I have never been this excited about any thing before.

which age did the egg production commence?
Seems you are panicking too early.
Wait till age 28 weeks by which date you should have at least 80% production

They started laying at 20 wks scantily but @ 21wk, i started having 3, 3/15pcs, 4, 4/20pcs, etc. now at 24th week I am having 11crates.
