DUNKA:The stocks in your list are good, but you don't necessarily need all. The more stocks you own the less you are likely to know about each of them, and the more time, energy and resources you will need monitoring them. For example, it is not necessary to have both GTBank and Zenith in one portfolio. Both of them have similar fundamentals and trading patterns. They even pay same or similar dividends over the years. In fact, there is no need having more than one banking stock in your portfolio since you are mainly interested in the cash flow. Having more than one banking stock will increase your exposure to this volatile sector. I would settle for the best of them all- GTBank. Below are the stocks I would select from your list: GTB DANGOTE CEMENT NIGERIAN BREWERIES MOBIL/TOTAL (Total Plc is more generous with dividend) NESTLE Others you may consider are: PRESCO AFRIPRUD or UCAP Just ensure that you enter at good entry prices. Also remember that you are investing your money in a corrupt country. Regular monitoring of your investment is paramount to ensure you don't wake up one day and see a very 'strange portfolio.' |
