Find the answer to ur questions from this bible passage;
. and you shall bestow the money for whatever your soul desires, for cattle, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul asks of you; and you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. The Levite who is within your gates, you shall not forsake him; for he has no portion nor inheritance with you. At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase in the same year, and shall lay it up within your gates: and the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the foreigner living among you, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do. From Deuteronomy 14:22-27 and 26:12, one can deduce as follows:

Tithing was not even a monthly exercise as practised today.
It was every 3 years - the year of tithes.
The Levites were just one group of the benefited
Tithing was basically a family cum communal event.

I still believe that one can directly distribute the money to the widows, fatherless, etc instead of giving it to the Church.
The end is same.

The book of Deuteronomy spoke of paying tithes to the Levi, widow, fatherless and foreigners. Malachi spoke of paying to the church so feel free to pay anywhere listed.

Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common.

And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.

There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet. ACTS 4:32 - 37

And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.

2 In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.
3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,
4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.
5 And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.
6 So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part.
7 But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you[a]—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

8 I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

10 And here is my judgment about what is best for you in this matter. Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so.

11 Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. 12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.

13 Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. 14 At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, 15 as it is written: “The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.” 2 Corinthians 8:1 -13

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a GENEROUS giver.

8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:6 - 8

17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.

19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Yes I know so many people will quote Malachi where the bible say bring your tithes to the store house of God, does that mean that is the only way to pay our tithe, if you say so, then explain the other places Bible talked about tithe. In Hebrew bible talks about Abraham paying his tithe to Melchizedek and God also ordered other tribes of Israel to pay tithe to the tribe of Levi because they are not meant to work. So my question is where, who, how, what is the correct way to pay our tithe. Plz I need bible scholars to clear me in this, ur answers are highly appreciated

Have read lots of comments but none has spoke my heart.

My take on this is that. Where you pay your tithe is not as important as the obedience of paying the tithe to God.

Your tithe are for God in heaven, the spiritual blessing attached to it is what should be of importance to you not how the physical currency or items are used on earth.

I'm not a schorler, so I can't quote verses to you. But I know the truth.

I also don't feel comfortable giving your tithe to less privilege or widow. Give onto God only and in the house of God. It's the Duty of the church to help the needy and you & I are the church. So that helping Is extra to your tithe

God bless us all

If he's helping people, it should not be from his tithe.

The tithe should be brought to God's house so there can be food. Tithes and offering in the times of the old testament was brought to the house of God as a token of appreciation and so there can be food for the Levites, this is because the Levite's were not allowed to work, their own work was to tend to the house of God as priests.

So they had a portion of these tithes and offeting to cater for themselves and their families.

Ask the holy spirit for directions. Its most important that you give cheerfully and not grudgingly or under compulsion.

PLS read Deut. 14:22 down... Having one perspective is not good. Bible said set aside 10% of your harvest and buy what you desire (wine, food etc) and eat with your family in God's presence, do not neglect the Levites because they do not work, and the foreigners and aliens among you. It also said, if the place where the Lord your God had chosen is far for you, exchange it for silver, and buy food items (probably when you get there)... That's so different from today's practice, please pastors should stop avoiding this passage, it's also in the Bible!

Just a little analogy that might help...

Johnny gained admission to Uniport to study Public Policy. Bisi gained admission to Oxford to read Law. And Nkem gained admission to Lagos Business School. They are all eager to attend their respective schools and graduate with flying colors. Where should each pay their tuition fees?
A) to his/her favorite teacher in secondary school
B) to the Dean or VC of the University
C) to the Widow who often helps out with homework
D) to the Registrar or Accounts office of the University?

Sam is an acknowledged member of Obedient Children of God Ministries. He wants to enjoy all the blessings of God here on earth and also make heaven. Where should Sam pay his tithe?
A) to pastor David who often shares the word with him
B) to his parents who introduced him to the ministry and give him a ride home
C) to the local foundation for widows and orphaned babies
D) to the church administration that manages all the functions of and income to the church?

Answering these questions might give you a clue to where you should direct your tithe.

May the Spirit of God direct you along your path this week!
More Grace

God instructed tithe and it is a measure of our faithfulness to God. It doesn't matter whether the church is super big and you are minutely small, embrace your faithfulness.
The days of bringing farm produce are far gone, so, money is the norms in the church today.
The church have a mandate to spend it as expected:
1. For full time ministers of God
2. For widows, orphans and the less privileged
3. Other activities as the need arises
I fulfil my tithing and also still observe my free will offering to the less privileged.

"Tithe is a prerequisite to make heaven"... This is the most thoughtless and awkward comment I've heard for years. People like you will believe and do everything these end time pastors tells you instead of opening your Bible to read. I support you to keep paying your tithes to pastors who are far richer than you and ignore the poor, less privileged. Then God will come begging you to enter heaven.
This is simple disobedience to God's word is disobedience to God and you can't disobey God and make heaven, for the records am just a church with no affiliate to church money

Throughout Christ's teachings while on earth, did He ever say what you just said now?
" tithe Prerequisite to make heaven"
I just explained it if you disobey Gods word you disobey God,and when he's not pleased with you how do you make heaven?

I see no Levites in Nigeria.I'm flying to Israel to pay my tithe abeg.

sunnyb0b0:

@op, Malachi doesn't define what tithe is and how to go about paying tithe. It only states the blessings and curses that go with tithe payment or non payment.

Deuteronomy 14: 22-29 is the portion that clearly states what tithe is, when and how tithe should be given and administered.

Deuteronomy 14:22-29New International Version (NIV)

Tithes
22 "Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. 23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice. 27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.

28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands."
