Got this from FORTHRIGHT SECURITIES & INV. LTD Dear Sir / Madam, Oando Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy companies, in a press statement, expect to report a significant decline in their earnings for the second quarter of 2016. This is due to the devaluation of the Naira against the US Dollars as the company has liabilities which amounts to a sum of $261 million dollars. The devaluation of about 40% resulted in the foreign exchange losses and this has been noted in the financial statements to be released soon. However, despite the challenges, the Company is determined to increase its dollar earning through its upstream and export trading business, which would not be impacted by the volatility of Foreign Exchange rates to the Naira. |

Oando plc announces earnings guidance July 18, 2016 Lagos, Nigeria – Oando PLC (referred to as “Oando” or the “Group”), Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy group listed on both the Nigerian and Johannesburg Stock Exchange, expects to report materially lower earnings for the second quarter of 2016 due to the impact of the Naira devaluation against the US dollar (“USD”), resulting in unrealized foreign exchange losses. This announcement is based on the unaudited financial statements for the period ended 30th June 2016. The impact of the Naira devaluation by the Central Bank of Nigeria (“CBN”) is expected to amount to an unrealized foreign exchange loss arising from USD denominated liabilities, outstanding bank trade facilities as well as vendor payables. As at the time of the devaluation the company had USD denominated borrowings of ~$261 Million in our Naira dominated earnings businesses, consisting of ~$68 Million in core loans, $89 Million in bank trade facilities, ~$83 Million in Asset Financing and $21 Million in other payables. A circa 40% devaluation in the value of the Naira against the US dollar from the bank rate of N199.00:$1.00 to N280.00:$1.00, has effectively resulted in these significant foreign exchange losses which we have prudently booked into our financial statements. Despite the challenging operating landscape in 2016, we reiterate our focus of returning the Group to profitability by growing our dollar earning higher margin upstream and export trading businesses, which will not be impacted by the volatility of Foreign Exchange rates to the Naira. We remain confident in our diversified business model and the long-term prospects for growth in Nigeria and beyond. Further details of the Group’s financial performance will be disclosed when the Half Year unaudited financial results are announced and during the subsequent results conference call. Ends. http://www.oandoplc.com/media/press-release/oando-plc-announces-earnings-guidance-for-h1-2016/ |

OBAGADAFFI: the guy wants to learn the hard way. that's wht it's good to buy and keep quiet instead of making too much noise and monkey hunting because when the trade go against you, all the monkeys you deceived will come after you like you owe them something and you will eventually be reduced to a low status like what happened to THE BIG SMART GUY. 11 Likes |

ExLaidback: N32B at Q2 is not good at all. How can a bank report a Q1 of c.N35B only for it to report N32B at Q2? A QoQ loss, that is. |

Manonamission: People, Please be cautious about your speculation s about FBNH. Their loan loss it's gonna increase by H1. Their foreign currency exposure is huge, and most of the fx exposure is in oil and gas. Our crude export is still poor. Devaluation by over 50℅ in increased the loan books. Please look for other stocks. Except you want to play the stock like Skye bank. K 1 Like 1 Share |

locodemy: Loco, you're my man, you know. The post you're referring to is intended as high humour, with some mild acidity. It is a token reaction to the increasing acidity of your own responses on oando matters, of late. You have invoked poverty upon a forumite for merely expressing his desired oando entry point. You have uttered unprintables in vernacular against bnsiTL for mere teeth flashing; teeth flashing which is one of the tools by which we inject some fun here, into the grim business of money making. Be assured that oando will surely make km-10 and and beyond. Equally, folks wishing it down to various southish entry junctions deserve also to have their own desires considered. But the timing for all these manifestations is known only to God, who is loving and almighty to grant everybody's request. Pls cut out now, for instance, those Igbo curses, which no doubt is offensive to up to half of the regulars here, in my estimation, who understand that language. One love. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Oga zendi, am trying to understand how you/MKT do your analysis. i.e the parameter used.why will the market be expecting N40b or more profit for a bank that is huge on loan? Fbnh last year H1 is about N40b. With all this their katakata, are we not supposed to expect something far less than last year's? This just a loud after thought, as am still a novice here observing. Thank you. zendi: |

Manonamission: Bros no vex o, you know say I be novice but the figure I have for Q1 2016 is c.N20B. Also the guy whose statement I quoted said PAT not PBT. Maybe we need more clarification on the results. I stand corrected but if with all the economic recession and headwinds the banks are currently facing, a bank like FBNH - that some people were even thinking will not make it after a disastrous FY 2015 - is posting N32B PAT, then except the poster made some mistake, that comes across as very good. So with a Q1 of N20B, I can understand why a H1 (not Q2 mind you) of N32B would be a disappointment. But if its a Q2 (not H1 mind you) of N32B, then that is definitely a good result. Anyway can you kindly recheck the figure you quoted for Q1 2016, I may have been wrong. 2 Likes |
