It just occurred to me now that I could get a bicycle to save my transport costs. Even though I know how to ride bicycle very well, I still need advice on the features to look out for when buying a bicycle. I need one that is strong, rugged and with good speed.  Also I don't want a bicycle that will zap all my energy because I will be riding for long hours everyday.

Don't buy brand new Naija bicycle (they are mostly China made and not durable). Buy UK used, they are very strong, reliable and durable (it's more expensive though).

Think of the rain, also showing up to work all sweaty and You never know soo many jobless youths won't say no to taking their chances against you.

Well, you can't buy the one in the middle it's more for speed you want a bicycle that rides on Road not hiking...The handle bar must be elongated for you to sit up straight, 700c wheels are good...you want a great linear pulling break and At least a 6 speed grip shifter , That's all I care to share from my HS riding days

A platform at the back for carrying light small stuff.




Buy a Rosary and a Bible and say your last prayers everytime before you ride.

Don't buy a bicycle its not safe... Your chances of being involved in an accident is high and God forbids it happens you may end up spending ur saved up salary and ur future salary treating ur self if you are lucky.

I prefer clean uk used, they are usually strong. Make sure it has double absorber like the last one in the pix and gears usually from 1-6.

I haven't really researched on buying bikes in naija, but o would recommend you buy a road bike considering what purpose you wanna use it for. https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/bicycle.html

PLEASE, ALWAYS USE A HELMET!!! Especially on naija roads, get an insurance on the bicycle considering how expensive it it (because you are looking at roughly $2000 USD).

If you go for the cheaper ones which are about 30k naira, they probably wouldn't last and they are more strenuous on you the rider.

I I agree with all except on small tyres as it will not give him extra balance on bumpy roads, what you need is a commuter bike but I must tell you that apart from recreation it will be difficult to cope with a bike for daily commute, I have tried it and it didnt work, you will soon get tired and dump it and jump on the next bus because it will make you to eat more food at the canteen which is equivalent to what you think you are saving.

Because Nigerian drivers are reckless you will continue to ride and look back until your neck go wan break for your safety. The only bike I will ask you is one that also have rechargeable battery to propel the pedal which you can charge at your work place and power ride when the charge is down

You know they are of two different type... We have Geared and non-geared bicycle... I'm advising you to buy a non-geared tokunbo bicycle cos they are strong and reliable and easy to maintain unlike Geared bicycle that easily develop fault once the gear sprockets start chopping off...
