vo:how many schools
me:3 then i name them(university of central oklahoma, cleveland state university and of course southwest minnesota state university that am going to)

vo:why did you choose this sch
me:: i was fascinated by the ongoing research in the mathematic department more than the others , since that is the area i will specialize in, i got interested and applied.I saw papers regarding Applied Mathematics that covers a wide range of topics in mathematical physics and mathematical modelling. I also seen research on Pure Mathematics involving geometric, analytic and algebraic methods in group theory……. Since I am undergrad some of the Content are advance but its good to know these research are done in the school which will be useful to me when I get there

vo:what do you intend to do with this course
me:i intend to work as a data analyst in a telecom company due to rapid increase in number of mobile phone users in nigeria.my skills and experience will be of high demand in helping in analysing sales report and doing market research so the company can become more productive and make better business decision.

Vo:so have you tried to apply to a university in nigeria
me: was not sure if i said yes or no but i remember saying there is too much strike in nigeria school and the school curriculum is not good that they focus on theory unlike us schools that has a good curriculum and international degree from us would give me edge over other when i apply for jobs in nigeria(was not expecting this question so my reply was not smooth i lost balance for here).

vo:she was saying something you will need this bla bla bla
me:for my mind i was like olorun pls dont let me receive this blue paper again

I got my admission to the university of bridgeport going for technology management in technology development. Waiting on I20. If it comes this will be my fifth time and last time going to the embassy because I believe God so much that I am getting my visa this time. Nevertheless, I need gurus here to help me in anyway to prepare me for my interview.
Studied civil engineering at logos state university, graduated 2010, after my nysc in 2011 started working in my dad's construction company where I held the position of an assistant project monitoring engineer and have been promoted as a project monitoring engineer. Within this period I went for some certificate courses and now going for my masters as stated above. Please gurus help me. God bless!

God used you @lagosismyhome...Thank you.

Pls I asked which route is best to kentucky. Murray City ..
Name the city and not the state because the state is very big

The Nashville airport is the largest airport near Murray, Kentucky, but because it is a two-hour drive to Murray, the ESL Program provides shuttle service from the airport to Murray State University. There is a $75 charge for airport pick-up which will be billed along with your tuition and fees usually it is either the weekend or the week before the start date on your I-20.……….. From Google

So you either take to Lagos to New York and then take a local flight to Nashville and used this ESL Program (but let the school know in advance if you plan to use this . You would have to pay extra for your luggage (usually like $25 per bag) as these are not cover under local flight.

Or from Newyork take the bus for 17 hours y 45 minutes or almost double the hours with grey hound . .

Visa approved 7.30 am today.
Don't tell its not God because it was him grin
And yeah I talk too much. So I'd add some extra because they are required.
I got to the waiting room. The guy at window 5(Mr Eric) was giving out blue papers like food. I sha prayed I wont go there but I got there cry
But I knew this guy from the educationusa briefing I attended two weeks ago. He clearly stated what he hated to hear. So I was ready for him since I knew them.
Here's the transcript
VO; Good morning
Me; good morning.
VO; Please pass your i20 sevis and passport
Me; (does that)
VO; what's your study plan?
Me; I plan to study computer science at Cameron uni for 48 months.
VO; What is computer science?
Me; (wasn't ready for this, I sha gave him a run down if my curriculum) computer science involves programming languages, implementation, design, algorithm, theories of computer science, etc..
Vo; when did you pay your sevis?
Me; about 3 weeks ago.
Vo; its not reflecting here. ( he types and types and confirms it was paid)
vo; how did you pick your school?
Me; after attending educationusa sessions and my tutorial centre that prepared me for sat, I was advised to make use of college's board big future portal. Which help me narrow down my search.
VO; (cuts in) narrow it down to what?
Me; the excellent curriculum they offered, funding available and affordability (I knew he was going to like this as he mentioned during the education usa session that he wished he had attended community college that he'd have been done with his student loans)
Vo; what are the requirements for graduation?
Me; you need a 2.5 gpa ( wasn't expecting this)
Vo; what courses will you be taking in your first semester?
Me; computer science 101, maths 101, English 101, calculus 101 and physics 101
VO; who would be sponsoring your education?
Me; my mom who is a successful automobile dealer. Also proceeds from my late father's estate would be used. I was also awarded a tuition waiver due to my SAT score.
vo; what was your test score.
Me; I had 1760.
vO; Great work! ( I knew the deal was done when he said this)
VO; I would be approving your visa. Pick it up at blah blah blah.
Me I just snatched my white paper and went.

Didn't check any documents.
Well, I was nervous at some points.
But I could reduce he asked his questions in such a way that you couldn't give a rehearsed speech. But if you have ideas. Then fine. I staggered in some responses.

Thanks to those who helped me from day 1 on here.
Thanks walspring for the mock interview
Texrem for the mock interview and the drilling
And lastly bright (I don't know his moniker) for the mock interview and drilling)
And everyone on here, thank you. smiley

Even though it is God who gives visa and touches the heart of the VO , lol (said in my nigerian voice )
The key is to make sure you are presenting yourself in the right way and not going each time saying the same similar thing . If not you will just be accumulating rejection for nothing .... I went back to your last transcript and it was easy to see nothing stood out and it was just generic answers especially when asked regarding murray state . .... . YOu have to make sure something is done differently form the last time . All the best .

Fregkay, u have a good opportunity to get your visa. Many have testified here and so far we have not witnessed denials. Forget the number of times u have been denied, u can get it. Just go through a couple of interviews and not the key points. You should probably be asked what you are going for, the schools u applied, why u chose the school, why the course, if possible u myt be asked your course modules or your research area, what you will do after studies. just go tru some transcripts

Yes you can book it online, Check Cheapticket.com for flights ........
However i dont know much about how Nigeria card system works or what you can use or not used to make online payment but others have done it so i guess Mastercard or Visa from Nigeria works . Best to book it immediately after booking your naija flight and leave at least 3 hours inbetween flight . Dont book when you get to Newyork because same day payment of flight would be more expensive

I think the 29hrs spent from Lagos to Washington was the most boring period of my life. Perhaps the only reason I tried to give it life was the thought that "my nairaland family is waiting for my transcript" and hey, I must say something.

The process from Lagos was rough as always with Nigerians trying to jump queue and some even raising their voices against one another. I was just reticent even when she slided into my front. ALAS, she was sent to the very back by an officer at the immigration desk.

Boarded the plane at about 30mins to the scheduled time and there we go at the set time. On board while I was searching for usb port on the seat, it's shocking that the QR 330 do not have such so I got to Doha stop over with an empty battery. I spent 3seconds feeling Doha's heat as we moved from the plane to the bus which conveyed us to the transit area. Doha is hot even in the middle of the night. Just like Dubai, at 4am, it was like 9am in Nigeria. At this time, my phone was fully charged(good charging ports everywhere-see attachment) and I connected to the Doha airport wifi and then updated this family.

At 7am, we got to the boarding gate to connect us to washington. Now I am better because there were charging ports on the QR707 seats. I was able to see just one movie in-between the 13hrs journey. The title of the movie? "Miracle from Heaven".

Arriving Washington at exactly 3:40pm on the 30th because we had 30mins delay. I got to the POE after about 45mins on a well organized queue with no complaint nor embarrassment. And here we go with the transcript:

Officer: where are you coming from?
Me: Lagos, Nigeria
Officer: How was your trip? (passport pls-gave it with declaration form-see attachment)
Me: Boring and long
Officer: I am so sorry
Officer: so you are here for....(cuts in-studies)
Officer: what course and where?
Me: Anthropology with focus on historical archaeology at William and Mary
Officer: I20 pls (gave it)
Officer: great full scholarship (I smiled)
Officer: how much do you have on you?
Me: about 700dollars.
Officer: great. Hands over document, stamped on the passport and told me to enjoy my stay.

I went to the baggage area-found my luggage together with ease and just went out. But no one even asked anything about anything in my bag. It got dawn on me that I am in Washington DC when I saw my supervisor from afaroff taking a shot of me. "Hey Lasisi, good to have you". I am like " ahn ahn where dem cpb people na" lol.

So we went straight to one kings buffet and had our dinner.

My conclusion- there is nothing to bother about the POE. As Sofadj, my dear friend at Maryland do tell me "you will be fine". I believe everyone with a genuine reason to school would be fine both at the embassy and at the POE.

- this might help someone- Lagosismyhome once said that "the God you pray to is a powerful God indeed". I think you are right. I can't remember spending my personal dime on my applications because I do not have any money to spend. But I can remember spending about 30000naira between last year and now- I spent the money only by giving it in the house of God. Sometimes I will have 10K and I needed to purchase flight ticket-10k would do nothing but I will quickly pray over it and sow it as a seed in church. This was how I paid for GRE, TOEFL, applied to 5schs (funded for all for 5yrs), got accomodation on campus, I mean everything was paid by my department even my Gre/toefl and application fees. I only paid about 30k in the house of God.

In everything we do, please let's acknowledge God because He would always make a way when there is no way. I learnt something from the movie onboard. The lady said " there are two things to believe 1. That everything is a miracle. 2. That nothing is a miracle". I think it doesn't hurt to believe everything is a miracle. Just to believe makes it a miracle. On this note, I want to wish everyone going for interview this week and months to come, Miracles from Heaven. Safetrip to everyone travelling this week too.

Thank you all my Nairaland Clan!!!

I think this is one of the most detailed transcript I have read so far. God bless you for making out time to share your experience. And yes, there can be miracles when you believe

Thank you so much, I am highly grateful..
Pls can you send me your number through PM?

That your first misconception if you feel research is for only those going for masters program ......... when i mean research it doesn't mean you are discovering the cure of HIV , but simple stuff in relation to the first degree and its application to Nigeria .

That gives a more in depth into your future goals than saying student faculty ratio

Also see the course you are going for , it has a good element of research. : undergraduate degree in clinical laboratory science and medical technology. So if you dont want to talk about research then hummmmm maybe you need more homework on this degree and its application

To add to your good point, undergrads involve in reseach like the grads. I have many undergrad assistants when I was a research assistant. Many other labs use undergrads for lab assistants too. He needs to be himself and not a recorded tape like the VO said.
