Nota Bene: all vehicles currently manufactured locally with modular applications.

The last picture, is that an SA built vehicle? What's the name, any frontal view photos?

Navistar SOTV

I really won't mind this, it looks good. The Azerbijanis have something similar to this.

Why are you opposed to it?

no sir

i was in jaffna at the end stages of war.
the war was fought by Israeli weapons except for some small arms sourced from east European countries and few from India , sometime in the war they ran out of ammo stocks when pak**tan supplied it pronto( others couldn't due to human rights issue).

large scale usage of barrel bombs perfected in sri lanka, the areas i visited showed entire buildings destroyed by carpet bombing with barrel bombs especially the incendiary ones.

You don't know how many weapons China give to sri-lanka not to mention some small ammunition like bullet or mortar or RPG. type-81,type-97 rifle.W89, W95 heavy machine gun.Type-81 MLRS ,Type-83 howitzer, type-63 APC .WZ551 APC . K-8 ,JJ-5 trainer.Type037 patrol boats..The Y-8 transport plane...They fight their first ever air battle with F-7 a low cost but useful fighter.

When they fight LTTE, the Western country say"human right".

Navistar SOTV

The SOTV B is a good choice since it is a fully armoured 4x4 that is mill spec but looks like a civilian vehicle

That something that could be really useful for any special forces team since they can blend in.

...sort of LAV Henry likes. Not quite rapid deployment for SF though.

I won't say that. A C-130 can carry Two vehicles, so 2 C-130s can carry 4 Recon teams. Teams that are well protected, well armed with better situational awareness.

I'm not quite alone in this argument, not even the Nigerian Air Force quite knows how they should use them. They are used inside bases far away from BH 14.5mms. The Honkers are clearly RDRVs.

Since we are in the topic of RDRVs, a little bit OFF-TOPIC, British SAS are in Syria, photos recently emerged of SAS in Syria and they are driving Jordanian made Al-thalab vehicles.

Looking all exposed in those vehicles, I just can't see the benefit of these vehicles.

It's the Navistar SOTV-a (Special Ops Tactival Vehicle) which SASF Brigade tested and disproved. Based on Ford components so could be replaced everywhere.

By my own pics I mean pics I have taken. Me in that boat for example. I knew of that exercise, the drone we used and could of mentioned it long before defenceweb. Defenceweb only did that article based on info that Navy gave them including the pic of me witch was taken by the Navy

He should be fine as long as the pics don't reveal any thing classified. We have all known about the new rifle and the pics are old enough.

They are for special forces.

The men fight or engage the enemy in a specialized way meaning their requirements slightly differ from conventional forces.

Special ops mean they operate far away from logistics bases. So they must carry everything they need(lubricants, foods, communication equipment ete) on the little battle wagons. Meaning many parts such as armour, at times doors are going to be stripped to make space.

During attacks the element of surprise is used. RDVs carry a lot of power for their sizes.

Publicly available picture.

An example is this picture these chaps are escorting the president inside a city. A short mission but they have carried a lot of stuff as if they are heading to mars and never going to return to planet South Africa.

Then on special ops more equipment will be carried such as Jerrycans, more ammo etc.

Without armour the vehicle's weight is reduced.

Nothing specialized about been getting shot at with a 14.5mm or Dshk. They feel the same way to both conventional and unconventional forces.

Hence the Plasan Sandcat from Israel provides that middle ground.

.
probably airborne special force only used when making sure there is no IED or mines on road. They probably have some high tech sensor or radar to detect them.see object underground or behind the wall. They can achieve almost zero casulty.
For a country don't have those technology,it's suicidal.
Or maybe just for base patolling

at least should have some Night View device and drone
.
I am sure some drone can see people hidden behind a wall
.

A lot of work goes into the planning of special ops.

That's why you see NATO sf units in Syria hanging around with the Javelin ATGM.

Only high end IFVs such as the Rosomak can absorb some 14.5mm rounds with it's occupants still safe.

The Hornet for an example can carry the: "Chinese rocket launcher, a heavy machine gun or 20mm cannon or a grenade launcher plus a General purpose machine gun.

The South African vehicles are better. Not because we add armour where we're not expected, but because we fight conventionally and otherwise.

Such equipment exists.

Ground penetrating radar: Used on specialist demining vehicles such as the Casspir variant and civilian mining purposes.

Wall penetrating radar: Used mainly by SWAT like units to observe movements behind walls on hostage and other situitions.
