[quote author=Trut post=48547906]When has it become a crime to name a dog whatever name you like?[/quotel]

Incitement to violence and breadth of peace is actually a crime. So is bullying

The name is not the point but rather the totality of the actions

something does not add up here.

you are attempting to obtain the dog as evidence meanwhile you investigated and found out the dog had the prescribed inscription. now I ask what happened to taking ordinary pictures of the f**king dog before hand.

if this goes to court, it would be thrown out

He has the right to do whatever he likes with the dog. This religious thing is eating up into Nigeria. Hausas are always looking for attention . Trying to take rule. So because he is Hausa we can't do what we like. Did yoruba people not see it. Other ethnic group must have seen it. Na only hausas with Thier behaviour of seeking for attention. People named their God Obama. Obama children no arrest anybody.

Nigeria Police and lies! How can they claim they didn't have the Dog as an exhibit because it can only follow the owner? They must be telling that to the marines.

You obviously did not read the OP, the said dog was confirmed by reliable witness to have a certain name of his neighbours father inscribed on it.

The dog was taken by the defendants brother killed and eaten to hide the evidence

"... after one of his neighbors of Northern extraction complained bitterly that he named his dog after his father, Alhaji Buhari."

I see no crime here.

So those who call/name their dogs (or other pets) names like Jimmy, Jack , Mack, Suzzy, etc should also be prosecuted?

So why is the Alhaji Buhari not suing, but his son?
Is he the only one that answers that name , Buhari?
If there is no second (and even Middle) name attached to the first name like , 'James, Adamu Bayo', no one can lay claim to such name. Even at that, when I was in the Primary School, one of my class mates was answering the same Name and Surname with my younger brother, will he now claim to be my brother? Or possibly his results? That is why there is need for a third name as such coincidence is near/almost impossible.

For those who jump to even say he named the Dog the President's name, and as such must be taught a lesson, I ask, did he include Muhammadu to the Buhari? Even if he did, did he hang the Picture of President Muhammadu Buhari on the neck of the dog to really say he was actually referring to the president?

He can only be incarcerated if his lawyer is daft and knows next to nothing; and of course the case is being tried in a country like Nigeria.

Hmmm, lady, America is not Nigeria. While we aspire to be, we must build from somewhere. You can test the boundaries all you want but it has consequences. And you must prepare for them. The police knowing they don't have enough fuel in their vehicles, tear gas in their magazines and haven't paid their retainership at the local hospital just want to de-escalate the situation.

How many people named their dogs Jonathan Goodluck ebele or patience ebele Jonathan ? And then went on to parade said dog in a neighbourhood inhabited primarily by Ijaw people ?

The name is not the issue but the action taken by the defendant

No,Sis.
It doesn't work that way.
He is free to name his pet whatever he likes, but it becomes provocative when someone nearby is displeased - and rightly so - because his father bears the same name.
This shows he lacks fellow feeling and his action was intentional.

Nigerians will always be Nigerians. People fail to see the need for peace. You already know what is wrong don't do it. Giving the dog a name (Buhari) is not the problem. Inscribing it on the Dogs body in a neighborhood dominated by Northerners is bad. Police anywhere in the world will charge you with an intention to breach peace or incite violence in the neighborhood. The police did a nice job. There is no way I am agreeing to foolishness. The guy is a clown.

No, it is not a breach of public peace only if I did it in a predominantly muslim enclave which would be the North or Arab country. If I did it in the US, Britain, South East or anywhere in SW except Iwo then there's no peace breaching here.

I do not see how wearing Ronaldo's jersey a breach of peace, whose peace? It is like saying the police cannot wear black berets because Aiyes wear it or the military police should not wear red beret because vikings & dogs wear it?

The premise of your argument for breach of peace is basically saying if anything (abstract & fluid) offends anyone then anyone should not touch it.

If this be the case then there will be so many court cases of this nature.

Fa Fa foul. It is in that UK and US that breach of peace is most often used. Half of the people arrested and booked in any given weekend is under the breach of peace laws in UK, it's even worse in US the police get called for all sorts of domestics and just book breach of peace.

It's not criminal offence but you sure don't want too many of those in your records. I've witnessed more than a fair few anti social behavior arrests and gone to bail a few friends the morning after. And I've had a friend who was told by the judge one more time and you'll be spending 30 days in jail. He also got a lengthy community and paid a 1000 euro fine and that was a lenient judgement in that case

Remember the popular Dauda the sexy guy comic character in lolly mags, that was later banned in the 80's because the muslim community felt it was an insult on one of their islamic icons. Naming a dog buhari after our president and then going a step further to inscribe the name on the poor animal is a dangerous form of humour and the height of social recklessness.
Re: Trader Arrested For Naming His Dog ‘Buhari’ by Petroking: 10:23am On Aug 17, 2016
It is not about the name of the dog. I think you have seen a lot of dogs in your life. How many of the dogs have you seen that even when they bear Obama the owner gets a paint and then writes Obama in both sides of the body. I only know dogs have tags and I am very sure that no lawyer and I repeat no lawyer can argue this. Because if you walk to a hundred and one places to get dogs who are owned, they all have names or tags on them which show their names. None of them are inscribed on both sides of the dog body. I hope u understand what I mean

actually, taunt like this triggered the pre-civil war pogrom in the North.

You are right, these people never learn. When the shit now hits the fan they'll start playing the victim card. After the murder of the Sardauna on the night of Jan 15 1966, Igbos in the north went into open jubilation on the streets. The events that played out afterwards is today history.

I thank those Hausa men that they were at least civil enough to take the matter to the police, the story could have been different.

And now a DOG is a "Wanted" dude #SMH .... In this age a pet can be name whatsoever lolz and now u will see how many Nigerians now will name them Dogs or even let goats buhari grin

The igbos hatred for Buhari is second to none. How will a sane person give a dog a whole president and commander in chief's name? This is the after effect of the negative messages Nnamdi kanu preached on his useless radio. He taught most of them to disrespect the president all because of their useless biafra agitations. I suggest this man be locked up and the keys thrown into the Atlantic Ocean. This will serve as a lesson to other unpatriotic IPOB yoots who found mentorship in Nnamdi kanu. How will the Igbo's feel if one names a goat Ojukwu? Biafra will never come sad
I have keenly read all your topics and posts. They are all about anti-Biafra. What problem do you have with them? Watch it before you die young cos from all indications, your BP skyrockets whenever you hear Biafra.
