kolawaxxy: Firstly, this even took place in Ogun not Kano and secondly their is no "freedom to offense" anywhere in the constitution of Nigeria or other sane countries hence they would have been taking crime not law into their hands. |

Hausas and yoruba muslim shouting 'kill him' 'kill him' should know that laws are not based on emotions or morality. Let them tell us the legal code of the constitution the guy broke by naming his dog after Buhari. Every lawyer of Eastern origin should take up this case, if the guy were hausa, Arewa elders and their yoruba muslim stooges would have fought for his release during GEJ regime. The same buhari that called nigerians 'dogs and baboons' doesn't want to be named after a dog. 5 Likes |

The case is dead on arrival . The man got the right to name his dog anything he likes. Buhari is a generic name in the Nigeria, so how does naming his dog Buhari affect public peace. 2 Likes |

Kassidy90: This is the problem with us. We know the fragility of the country, we know the foundational structure of the country is bad. Rather than face these problems & profer possible lasting solutions we want to patch, gun-scare and ignore the products of these problems. So many educated Nigerians yet we suffer from the lack of rational minds. |

lawsta: Unlawful arrest & detention of someone else is why you've decided to use this term? You must want to dig up youtube videos from Obama's first term election victory & see whites do these things and no one was arrested for it even though blacks didn't like it. solok: Sweet Jesus! Did he do it in the north, no! It is similar to you & whomever you have a problem with are living in London, a neutral soil and he decides to give his pet your name, how does that breach the peace of London? This is an Ibo man & a Hausa man in Yoruba land, a neutral soil. Does it breach the peace of the Yoruba, no. Using Hausa in Yenogoa makes no sense. The last time I saw a case like this was in primary school where making jest of someone's name made them cry to the class teacher who has to put a stop to it to protect the emotions of the taunted. In essence, this is very childish. 2 Likes |

sweetgala:Story! So you believe that lies from the Nigerian Police? You mean that out of sudden the accusers can't even affort to snap the Dog if truly such thing happened? The truth is that the Zoo Police are just looking for excuses because its obvious to all discerning minds that they are victimizing the other guy to please the Northern. 1 Like |

uzolexis: My dear, as funny as this may sound, the Police are empowered by law to arrest any one who does any thing capable of breaching public peace. You may want to ask how can that action breach public peace? Now imagine if the complainant had probably out of anger, gone ahead to engage the accused in physical combat. It would have turned out bad, right? Acts which are capable of breaching public peace are such that, amongst other things, are considered provocative. |
Re: Trader Arrested For Naming His Dog ‘Buhari’ by Nobody: 3:03pm On Aug 17, 2016 |
Tomjazzy2: In saner climes, the police go/es to the scene to verify the claims and try to talk the man into seeing from the Hausa's angle which he has a right to ageee or disagree too and in any case, he cannot be forced. If he disagrees, the police go/es back to the Hausa to explain to him/them how he has a right to such, try to calm them down and as usual tell them they will keep imvestigating and stay in touch with the Ibo man - simple. This is civil not criminal. 1 Like |

I see why Nigeria is in trouble when people here throw away common sense because they're idle hero worshipers. People here have a right to freedom of expression. If it offends you grow up or simply say something back. Arresting a man for calling his buhari and parading them is bigger issue of violating our freedom as citezens of Nigeria. They cant charge him with anything. Theres nothing illegal about his actions. This should be taken to court. Morans here defending this are disgusting spineless cattle brains. Buhari, Allah, Jesus, or who every you worship cant be above critique. 3 Likes |

9jacrip: I quite agree with you on the methodology adopted by the Police on that case. They often usurp the powers of our Law courts by sumarilly prosecuting and passing judgements on accused persons. But I disagree that this case is purely a civil matter. Whilst the complainant can seek redress under the civil law, a criminal proceeding can also be conveniently instituted against the accused. |
