hmmmm....I was wanting to study electrical/electronics engineering but I think I will have my mind changed for another course ....because what I have read in this tread so far is not encouraging..it is like everyone here is regretting for going for the course..

Thanks

Not true bro. Electrical Engineering is the most sought of all the Engineering disciplines and there are so many opportunities opened to you as a graduate of Electrical Engineering especially if you make a good grade.

I had to lose a year in the university to study EEE and I've never regretted it.

Wishing you the best in your endeavours.

Hello bro, that's a very good one; it will certainly give you stability of employment. However, what you need from life will determine how much you want to add to yourself. For any average person, your job is a cool one.
However, if you have the ambition to grow larger as life; you could add NEBOSH IGC, M.Sc and be a registered engineer. You are into O&M ( Operations and Maintenance) which is a very stable job. However, the experience on the job might not commensurate with that of anyone in the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction). In 5yrs time, an experience with EPC makes you the beautiful bride of many engrg arm. However, just enjoy your stay with the power sector: and please, if you are of age: get married (an Engr needs stability to focus and progress).
Have a great time as an Engr sir.

Professionals in the house, I greet you all. I went for an aptitude test in a company for a Position as an electrical engineer. The result is not out yet, but I'm hoping to be called back for a one on one interview. Please, can experienced professionals hint me on what kind of questions I should expect from the interview. If possible, the exact questions you were asked during your own interviews. The position requires 1 - 2 years in a power sector company. Please, I need your help urgently.

Electrical engineers should take note of this question before going for an interview or practical aptitude test. if you do not know 85% of the answers now as your reading it for the first time then you have work to do on yourself. Because of the nature of our university system(un experience lecturers with little or know industrial knowledge) and poor industrial training program, most of us graduated without knowing that these questions are the key to nailing any interview in electrical power section(instrument and process control will come later).
i can only vouch for AEIT for now wrt practical training.

1= What is the different between a solid state relay and an electromagnetic relay.
2= Why is it that an electrical motor using 480VAC is runs on a star/delta circuit.
3= Draw the control and the power diagram of a direct online motor.
4= What is single phasing of a 3 phase motor.
5= What is the function of a relay, contactor, and overload relay in a motor circuit.
6= what is the full meaning of MCB,MCCB and OLR
7= Name five part of an AC motor
8= Know your motor calculation, viz a viz slip. efficiency, speed.
9= How do you reverse the direction of a DC motor.
10=How do you reverse the direction of an AC motor.
11=what are the causes of a motor overload.
12=The speed of a motor is determine by what two factors
13=What is the different between synchronous and asynchronous motor.
14=Explain the operation of an induction motor.
15=How effective are you in the use of megger meter and analog/digital meter.
16=What are the different type of motor overload protection devices and how are they connected. such as fuses, OLR, MCB, MCCB, phase failure device, under current device, etc.
17=what do you understand by Power factor correction, what are the types of power factor correction and why is power factor correction important. etc.
18= Add more electrical motor question that you have come across in the interview.

everything having being said is know your motor, transformer and practical basic electricity very well.
note that you do not need to answer all the questions being asked in an interview but you need to answer a quite number of the question asked to your best, keep it simple and clear but before you get to this stage, your cv should speak for you.
consult other trends to learn how to write a very good cv.

i have 4 pdf and an electrical maintenance video to give out to those who want it. i have had my day, struggle to get here, made sacrifices, waited resources in search of practical electrical knowledge. the key is NEVER GIVE UP. [size=18pt]one of your best aid to learning is www.youtube.com
there are so many short videos to explain most interview question.

Good day guys,
Am 29yrs and I presently work with a bank as a full staff.
I just earned my M.Eng degree in Electrical Machines and Power systems in a Federal University.
I am kind of bored with banking and I do have my sights set on a Ph.D.
I am however concerned with getting working experience in Electrical Engineering before I put in for Ph.D pls all how can you all advise me.
I have never worked in an engineering firm.
I have a 2:1 at bachelors and my M.Eng is 4.0/5.0.
I have wprk experience with two top banks so far but I wanna change career path.
Can I get into management in an Engineering firm ?
How best can I go about it?
Am already evaluating Ph.D scholarship offers but I would love to garner engineering work experience first.
Thanks.

I believe this has been duly addressed at the first 5pages of this thread, basically... PhD Is useless in Engineering unless you wanna lecture cos no firm wants to waste huge money on same result they'd get outta a M. Eng, oh... This in turn means it reduces your chances of getting your career job.

Trust me... The answers you seek is in the first five pages of this thread. Ajanlekoko and others did a good job on that

Cheers

Thanks for ur time. I understand what you saying and thats why I said I am looking to cross to an engineering firm and gather some experience before going for Ph.D..
Considering my peculiar situation whats the best way to achieve that ?
I am thinking management or sales in an engineering firm may be more realistic targets cos all my work experience has been in banking...

@oyb, @ajanlekoko
i dont know how best to thank you both for the great responses you have given on this platform. i came across this thread randomly and i have been stuck here for hours virtually going through everything (though i still wasn't able to).

my own question may seem off or lowering but i have to throw it out. i studied electrical engineering in UNN, i am currently serving my fatherland undecided. i wish to practice this profession, and i have my mind on electrical designs, wiring and installations. but people have been really discouraging, that its a demeaning field since i am a B.Eng holder, that its technicians job. i really have ideas of taking wiring to the next level in Nigeria, from residential buildingd to commmercial and all kinds, but it feels like i am wasting my time.

please i need your advice on how to go about this. i am currently learning autocad, and @oyb i am grateful for that link and sites you shared years back sef grin, i hope i get a response tho.

or even from any other person.
