That is the problem I have with some of these leagues; Turkish and German Leagues, though we may have to blame their agents to some extent. Take for instance, a player like Musa Muhammed should not be tied to the bench, th guy looks too promising.
Musa Muhammed is another curious case. I wonder why such a fine talent just like Ofoedu would be in Turkey of all places.
Turkey is for semi retired or retired players, that's why I called it footballers grave. Its a league for guys like John Utaka, Micheal Eneramo, Yobo, Van perise, Bruno Alves, etc
Any young and up coming player who finds himself in Turkey for more than 1year will be ruined.

I wish Musa Muhammed finds his way in atleast the Belgium League so as to announce himself on the Bigger Stage.

Apart from Kelechi's goal i was genuinely disappointed in his play. Boy needs to work on his first touch and improve on using his right foot. His one footedness is sickening. If he doesn't improve i'm afraid he will be chopping bench when Gabriel Jesus arrives in January.
so, you have gone from hating on Mikel, to hating on Iheanacho, abi? Truly, you must be a pathetic soul

Anyway, since you're neither a City fan nor one who benefits from Iheanacho's status in City, I suggest you keep your unsolicited advice to yourself as I'm well aware it is not borne of goodwill going by your antecedents. Let Kelechi's coach worry about aspects of his play, you worry about your next meal

I think we need those players, especially to change the game and give us something different when we are in difficult times.

There are times when you need an Aaron Samuel or a Sunday Mba to win games for you even when Emenike, Ahmed Musa and co are present on the field.

Fanen Adi for instance is tall and may bring aeriel threat.

Kehinde Fatai and Kayode deserve a look in too. These guys may not be marked out easily as defenders do to the popular guys. They can take the defenders unaware.

Imo Ezekiel has lost the form that made him a goal machine in the Belgium leagues some years ago, he should go rediscover that form first before dreaming of Super Eagles shirt.
If those players were that good how come with all the years they have been playing professional football they have remained in less competitive leagues? IMHO they cannot make that extra sparkle u are talking about. Not every player would get to play for the Super Eagles. Gone are the days when we will b trying one Anthony Ujah, Joseph Akpala or Peter Utaka all bc they are banging in goals in some less competitive leagues.

Isaac Success who has played in the Seria A, La Liga and now the EPL to me is more fanciful than Kayode hu has only played in Ivory Coast, Israel and Austria.

Clubs aside Success is a more talented player and is currently on a rising curve.
Success in my opinion deserves a call up ahead of Kayode and Adi.
As for Kehinde Fatai. Mayb most u guys jst started knowing him. He was one of the 3 strikers we took to the 2009 U20. The other 2 were Odion Ighalo and Danny Uchechi. Fatai flopped most amongst the 3. Only Ighalo managed to put up an average performance.

I am not completely rulling out Fatai. He has obviously improved in the Eastern European leagues where he has played almost all thorough his European career but I don't think he has enough for me to say "he is the man we have been waiting for".

Ifeanyi Matthew in dramatic loss on Lillestrom debut
https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/09/Samm_12_Dec_4.jpg
Ifeanyi Matthew

Ifeanyi Matthew finally made his debut for Lillestrom but despite providing an assist, his new Norwegian club fell 4-2 at home no thanks to two stoppage time goals.

The Nigeria international midfielder came off the bench in the 74th and provided the assist for Lillestrom’s second goal 10 minutes later.

That took the game to 2-2 only the visitors to score two more goals in stoppage time.

But it was not enough as Odd, parading Nigeria winger Chukwuma Akabueze, underlined their class by running away 4-2 winners at Lillestrom.

Akabueze gave an assist for his team’s fourth goal.

Matthew’s debut was delayed by a late issuance of a work permit.

The former Kano Pillars and El Kanemi Warriors star has signed a four-year contract in July.

Eagles coach Rohr rejects Abuja house
https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/09/Gernot_Rohr.jpg
Gernot Rohr - Nigeria Coach

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has rejected a three-bedroom provided for him in Abuja by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), saying it is “too big”.

The 63-year-old Rohr, who is married to an African, has inspected the three-bedroom property in Jabi, but has now told officials he could do with a much smaller apartment.

An official accommodation is part of the benefits captured in the two-year contract the Franco-German has signed to qualify Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup.

Already, the NFF have moved fast to also provide an official car for the former Gabon and Burkina Faso coach.

The official car first purchased to be used by Sunday Oliseh is now being fixed after it was used by Olympic team handler Samson Siasia beyond his time in temporary charge of the Eagles for the AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Egypt in March.

Rohr is on a staggering $47,000 a month and this salary is being bankrolled by a mystery sponsor.

Big striker Fanendo Adi a real danger says opposing coach
https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/09/Samm_11_Dec_2.jpg
Fanen Adi

Real Salt Lake manager Jeff Cassar has said the imposing figure and power of Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi will always be a big threat to opposing defences.

He said Adi brings more than focus to the field of play after the target man scored in a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake at the weekend.

“He’s very physical and he puts himself in good positions," Cassar said.

"It was more about positioning (on Adi's goal) rather than them breaking us down."

Adi said he was lucky to net his 14th goal of the season for champions Portland Timbers in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

“I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time,” said Adi, who converted after a shot by Darlington Nagbe deflected off of Chris Schuler.

“Sometimes in front of goal, you have to be very composed.I took my time just to see where the goalkeeper was standing and just kicked it in.”

In three meetings between Portland and Real Salt Lake this year, Adi has scored four goals and has now netted a total of seven goals against the club.

You are very much right Sir, but if the place where one plays is the only criteria for selecting players for national teams and not what they can do then, Sunday Mba and Aaron Samuel should not have won the Green White Green.

They are players who do not play in the best leagues in the World, but that in it self does not take away their talent.

You mean Anthony Ujah played in 'some less competitive league'? shocked grin

O I see! Werden Bremen is a slovakian club. grin

Pls be informed that Anthony Ujah scored double digits goals in the Bundesliga in his two short seasons.

Joseph Akpala nko! He was banging in goals in the Belgian league consistently with the 14 times Belgian Champions Club Brugge.

Thank God Lars took him to the World Cup on merit.

Peter Utaka was only given 7 caps in National team and he didn't disappoint with 3 goals.

You said if they were that good.... they should have progressed to better leagues.

Well, let me help you with the history of how they progressed.

Kayode Olanrewaju starting playing professional football at the age of 16 years. He signed for Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast which had produced best players in Europe and Africa. The likes of Yaya Toure, Kalou, Gervinho etc were groomed there. From there he went on loan to FC Luzern in Swiss and Maccabi Netanya a second division team in Israel until his 4 years contract expired with Asec Mimosa. It was there he singled handedly helped the club with his goals to gain promotion to the Israeli premier-league were he also became the 3rd highest goal scorer in his first full season in European league before he moved to 24 times Austria Bundesliga's Champions, European winners Cup finalist, 4 times UEFA Champions League quarter finalist and one time semi finalist.

He was also the 3rd highest goal scorer last season in that league and he helped his team to qualify for the Europa group stage this season with his goals.

Meaning within three years in Europe, he has progressed to play in the European league, expecting to be competing with the likes of Manchester United, Inter Millan, Roma, Ajax, etc.

Hopefully, if fortune smiles on him, he will get noticed in Europe with his goals and one bigger club will come calling for his services.

What else do you expect from a lad ignored for players playing in China, academic, and bench warmers etc, to play in the National team ahead of him to progress?

Isaac Success never played in the Serie A though he was on their book. Isaac Success should not be given National team Jersey just like that without a fight he should prove himself on the field of play.

A living dog is better than a dead lion.

A player doing well in Europa League should be considered ahead of a player warming the bench of some bigger clubs.

2009 don waka pass tete. Pikin wey dem born for dat time don start to dey play ball wella. If Kehinde fatai does well in Russian league this season, he should be called ahead of Aaron Samuel who also plays in the Russian league. Afterall, Ahmed Musa was invited to the National team while there .

Na only em flop? Kelechi Iheanacho no flop 4 under 20 world Cup? grin

COMMENT: Counting the cost of Mikel John Obi's Olympic sacrifice

Could the Chelsea man's admission that he paid for Nigeria's Olympic preparations be misconstrued?
GOALCOMMENT By Solace Chukwu Follow on Twitter

Where smoke rises, there usually is a fire close by. It was therefore no surprise to have Mikel John Obi finally admit to having footed bills, ranging from feeding to transportation, of Nigeria's U-23 side as part of preparation for the Olympic Games in Rio.

The story had been reported by local media during the tournament, and had been vehemently denied by the captain, as well as the team’s media officer, in what one can only imagine was an act of modest diplomacy. His total expense, by his own admission to Goal, exceeded £30,000, a staggering and quite generous contribution to the enterprise.

Mikel admits he paid his own money to save Nigeria's Olympics https:///SH4deUDbvN pic.twitter.com/DPyQa9FnjE
— Goal UK (@GoalUK) September 10, 2016

In addition to being team captain and chief creator, Mikel appeared to relish the added responsibility of being de facto benefactor to the team, producing his best football in international colours for quite some time. The team also went ahead to claim bronze, the sole Nigerian medal in a forgettable Olympic Games.

In that sense, some good came of such a farcical arrangement. The question, though, is why it all had to come to that.

Nigeria, and indeed African sides in general, have a shameful history with financial disputes in major tournaments.

If there are African reps, you can be certain there will be some scandal, typically centering on unpaid bonuses.

As recently as the World Cup two years ago in Brazil, the Super Eagles were forced to boycott training for a day before the Round of 16 tie against France, demanding bonuses due to them for equaling Nigeria’s best-ever finish at the Mundial, while Cameroon and Ghana needed money flown into South America to quell camp insurrections.

From the outside looking in, and for those unfamiliar with the workings of the local football administration, the players often have to take blame for being ‘unpatriotic’ and are charged with indiscipline, often even by the very administrators (who can forget the events of the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations in Mali, culminating in Nigeria fielding an almost unrecognizable squad at the World Cup later that year?).

This, then, is a breath of fresh air: a player for once going out of his way to demonstrate commitment to a cause, displaying the sort of mature leadership that recognized how to bend ever so slightly without breaking.

It helped, perhaps, that there was a personal ambition to be fulfilled--having missed out in 2008 as Samson Siasia led Nigeria to silver, this was one experience lacking in a storied career. If you ever wondered what an Olympic medal could be worth to a player who has won every major club trophy available, then wonder no more.
https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Nigeria/59/59/john-obi-mikel-honours_nhq87y7lyqy1e35c0apughen.jpg?t=170703655
However, it is entirely possible for even an act of inherent nobility to set a bad precedent.

Nigeria is a country that glories in triumphs against the odds, one that seems incapable of grasping the fact that exceptions to the rule are just that: freak occurrences. Rather than introspection and reform, this debacle will further entrench complacency and abdication within the hierarchy of Nigerian football.

It could also lead to a conflict of interest down the line.

The coach of a team can hardly be expected to function unimpaired when one of his players is actively footing the bills. It’s all well and good when the player in question possesses Mikel’s natural ability, of course, but it would have been interesting to see where Siasia’s loyalties would have lain had the team’s sustenance come from a less reliable member.

It also taints the otherwise perfectly logical decision to transfer the team captaincy to the Chelsea man upon arrival, fringing it with a patina of lucre-y grime.

There are lessons aplenty, but typically, Nigeria - and its fellow African nations - may never learn them.

Over in Ghana, there is a messy separation ongoing between the Black Stars and the people, with the GFA playing the role of unscrupulous divorce lawyer, directly as a result of the issue of player welfare.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. For now though, it suffices simply to salute Mikel’s patriotic sacrifice, as we await the next African money scandal on the world stage.

Nice article by Solace on Mikel but Mikel got the captain band because he was the National team captain. It is right for the National team captain to hold the hand of the U23 team of professionals invited.
Chikeluba Ofoedu is a player I expected to be a main stay in a decent team in one of the top 4 leagues in Europe, judging from what I saw of him in 2012.
It's hard to believe he is turning out for a team in the 2nd tier of Turkish football.
I hope he gets out of that footballers grave that is Turkey as quickly as possible. His talent deserves better recognition.

Danm Chikeluba Ofoedu, bundle of talent. Pacy, skillful and very dangerous in the 18 hard box. I I thought he was gonna be the next big thing from the local league. Played for Enugu Rangers before he left for Turkey.

Well, sometimes it's not actually easy to land a decent club in Europe especially when you are coming from the lowly rated Nigerian league. In Ofoedu's case , you can blame the man the Nigeria league doesn't pay not even enough to take care of their families, hence, when the opportunity to go abroad presents itself they jump on it.

City Teenager, Iheanacho Made Robbie Savage Look Silly

As the Manchester derby approached, many expected a highly anticipated clash between the two Manchester rivals. This was a match where both sides had brilliant players.

With Manchester City having players like Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Fernandinho, Nolito and the English Premier League player of the month, Raheem Sterling.

Manchester United had Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fellaini, Baily and Blind.

As many expected a brilliant game, an analyst and former footballer chose to throw a dig at Manchester City. Robbie Savage, former Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City player claimed that Manchester City will always live in Manchester United’s shadow. He made this bold statement on The Mirror.

When will we next see a home-grown player score the winner for City in the derby, as Marcus Rashford did for United at the Etihad last season?

Even after all the big spending of late, the major talking point this week has been whether Rashford, who cost nothing, will make Jose Mourinho’s starting XI at Old Trafford.

Guardiola made a bold reply by starting the promising Nigerian teenager, Kelechi Iheanacho to replace the suspended Manchester City star striker Sergio Aguero.

Iheanacho put up a good display as he caused Manchester United defender Bailly a lot of problems. Iheanacho dropped deep during the game and helped the flow of the ball in the midfield.

Iheanacho's movement caused Bailly a lot of thoughts as he tried to keep up with the teenager. Bailly battled with the decision to maintain his deep defence line or pursue the drifting Nigerian teenager.

Iheanacho's assist to Kevin De Bruyne came from one of his deep movements, drawing Bailly off his defensive line to create room for Kevin De Bruyne to slot in from midfield. Iheanacho headed the ball towards Kevin De Bruyne and the Belgian forward was fast enough to nip the ball off Blind. Kevin De Bruyne made no mistake as he helped Manchester City take the lead with a brilliant finish.

Iheanacho did not stop there and capped his fine display by being at the right place when a Kevin De Bruyne's shot bounded off the post. Iheanacho slotted in a finish to give Manchester City a two goal lead.

Robbie Savage needs to eat his words because the fine display of the Nigerian Manchester City graduate, he was one of the top players of the game. His goal was the winning goal of such a tough tie.

Where was Robbie Savage when Iheanacho ended last season as the player with the best goal to game ratio.

At the end of this season, Kelechi Iheanacho will qualify as a full home-grown player and his performance shows that Robbie Savage does not understand what is going on at the Etihad.

Just to play devil's advocate, Iheanacho would have gone to chan and maybe world cup if he didn't go to man city so why is he considered a youth product.

He is a graduate of the academy. When he was to go to CHAN, he was not a finished product. Keeping in mind, the coaches converted him from a Creative Attack midfielder to a striker. That was done by the Academy coaches.

Guardiola would not start the Iheanacho that was to go to CHAN against Manchester United.

It was the developed Iheanacho that made that bow.

Chikeluba was just too good. To be candid, I have never seen a more ambidextrous player all through my years watching the Nigerian league. He has skill, pace, power and sheer cutting edge like anyone you can mention.
I remember a particular game against Enyimba, whenever chikeluba was on the ball, enyimba fans sitting close to me on the terraces were shouting Obia o! Obia o! Obia o! Obia o! Meaning, he's coming oh! He's coming oh!

That young man destroyed many defences within the short period he played for Rangers.

He made an error jumping to sign for a 2nd division team in Turkey. I believe he would have been picked by Keshi for the Chan or even the confederations cup had he stayed another year in the NPFL.
Whoever his agent was deserved to be flogged.

Is he a winger? Which player in the international scene does he play like, I mean in style?

U act like he would have gone to Chan and just stayed in his room after. You are forgeting he played under a top coach last year who should also get alot of the credit. It is almost like Wolfsburg claiming that Osimhen is a youth product. To be a youth product u must have spent years in the academy. Iwobi for example.

As I said again, Iheanacho would not play as a top striker in CHAN. How does that mean staying at home to you? He was to start as the creative midfielder.

Are you saying all starters of the CHAN team were ready to play for Manchester City?

That is where the academy came in. They did the grooming. Found his natural role as a finisher. Trained him in the role and pushed him to the senior team.

In the senior team, as a teenager, Iheanacho's growth continued. Playing among top players, working under a top coach like Pellegrini. All these were part of his training.

That is why he is a City Home-grown player.

Alexis Sanchez. They have alot of similarities. Street wise, skills, power, pace, ability to win their battles, cutting edge, good shot to boot, aggression(thou Sanchez is slightly more aggressive).
Hes the kind of player you have alot of headache trying to mark him out.
