Africa was once a modern coined name. As was America. As was Nigeria. As was Yoruba at one time. As was Igbo. Why kick up when a new term (50 years old actually) is coined?

About the Anioma man leading the coup... as far as most Nigerian's were and are still concered: "Ibo-speaking means Igbo." This is simply not true. Even Anioma leadership has been awakening to the fact that we are in fact not Igbo. The great irony is that the people who remind us that we are not "true Igbo" are non other than Igbos themselves.

To wit:

Witness how they fled across the Niger and blew up the bridge to leave their so-called "brethren" to be massacered at the hands of the Nigerian side.
Witness how the vast majority of leadership in Igbo matters is from "core Igbo"
Witness the creation of Ebonyi state, rather than Anioma, when Igbos did a backface and withdrew their support for Aniomas at the last moment for political gain.
Witness the arrogance and contempt with which they proclaim themselves and put Anioman's down.

You can't see all these and accept that we're all the same.

Bro, that was well said and deep! My friends from delta repeatedly told me that they are delta-igbo and not igbo(some with strong warning), so the issue is actually not what we non easterners call them but who they introduced themselves to be. Just never knew it was this deep. In other news 5% done turn 3% o grin

Igbo denial in Enu ani is a very very minute issue. Like. 2% of the population.

So ultimately, Enu ani political inclination in regards to the Igbo identity is at variance with those of Ika.

Where exactly was it written here that majority of Ikas see themselves as Igbos?

Ikechukwu and Ugomba who are Enu ani men here had warned you several times to stop pulling Enu- ani into Ika identity crisis.

The gladiators in Enu- ani are always Igbo, I am yet to see one of them that deny being Igbo. From
Elumelu, to Okonji to Okocha,to Pat Utomi to Osadebey, to Asagba of Asaba.

They are all proudly Igbos. Stop attaching your identity crisis to them, it won't stick.
2% do you mean what you just typed? Igbos don't even have a 50/50 acceptance there and you said 2‰? I give up on you.

Shut ya gob and pay attention to the knowledge I'm kicking lol. All I'm doing is to civilise ya primitive mindset lol.

Igbos outside Onitsha to the West and anywhere South of Igboland got their through slavery. They were slaves in the two axis pre-Nigeria and it is well documented. Yes, they did outnumber the indigenous people in those places. However, that doesn't negate the fact that they went to those places as slaves. So, why would people who settled in places outside their ancestral lands as slaves want to dictate an identity to the indigenous people they met there? A lot of folks from Delta in the so called Aniona for example can trace their ancestry to Bini and they were the ones who owned these Igbo slaves. Slaves can't dictate to the owners of land - learn to pick ya battles wisely.

Oyo owned slaves but they were mostly Bariba, Fulani, Hausa, and Nupe. And apart from Ilorin, most of these slaves were assimilated into the Yoruba identity and they are Yoruba today. That's what Igbos in Delta need to do - assimilate into the Bini culture they met there. And if they can't do that, the ones who are Igbo should claim Igbo and let the Bini ones claim Bini.
u contradict ur own stupidity u said any Igbo found from anywhere outside Onitsha down west into agbor where slaves who went on to outnumber the indigene,I mean hear urself agbor fought toe to toe with the Bini headhunters if agbor was a Bini town as u rightly categorized all other town in the west bank of the Niger as town owned by Bini indigenes, why would Bini hunt for slave in it own region, and why would agbor a town in ur so called Bini empire go toe to toe with the crown.

The problem is that we dont know who are the migrants and who are the first settlers in this case. many of d villages could be bini, some ibo, so even igala, what we are sure is dat there are several migration waves.

Lol! You can't be serious. In absence of a colonial Igbo land forcing Igbo language on groups. It's obvious that the Language of the majority of the dwellers in Ancient Anioma was Igbo, as Igbo language ended up swallowing all other languages there, despite the imperial power of Bini on Anioma and the proximity of Ika and Even Igbanke to Edo, the people ended up with a classical Igbo dialect. Except in few cases where these immigrants founded their own independent communities, as in Ebu ( Igala) and Odiani ( Olukumi) could Igbo language of the majority of the natives of anioma not prevail. cool

Even Odiani today is seriously assimilating into Igbo mainstream of Anioma, as they kings now go by the name "Obi" and with Igbo names and titles to match.

Its not hard for any genuine anthropologist to figure out who were the main inhabitants and were in majority in Anioma before the arrival of others. cool

If you're honest, you will understand that these two situations are completely different. I'm telling you this and you can find out from anybody from Agbor and environs. We can't speak Igbo but we understand Igbo to some extent but still get lost every now and again. But to twist your tongue to speak Igbo? No way.

This argument might not have come out if not for the double standards of the Europeans that classifies everybody else as one but are quick to pronounce their differences. If not can anybody explain to me why Dutch and German is different language and Chinese The same language? Even Portuguese and Spanish/French and Italia that are said to be 90 % lexically similar
agbor is a town boarded by another ethnicity who in the period past went toe to toe with the Benin headhunter of the Benin Royal house. for u yo be in the know of what going on in the camp of ur enemy, language is absolutely essential.

Edo is not part of Biafra except for the Igbo speaking community of Igbanke. As for Urohbo,Itsekiri etc, they can stay back in Nigeria for all we care. What is more important for us Igbos is our kith and kin in Anioma and Igbanke. The rest can stay in Nigeria and rot if it pleases them.

There are binis who now anioma, very many villages in onitcha-ugbo goes by d prefix 'idumu' that is a bini word, it shows that the time they were named the people had a bini-ish language, the history of issele uku says they migrated from bini. i also know a chiefly anioma family and their anscentral name is isibor, which is bini not ika or iboid. There is a lot of bini anscentry in anioma.

The person I quoted said that most Igbos in the aforementioned areas are descendants of Bini people. This is not true. There is a difference between having a small amount of Bini blood- intermixing isn't rare in a lot of places in Igboland- and being of direct Bini heritage, like that person suggested. My last name sounds a little Bini and I know that some of my ancestors migrated from Benin to where they are now. However, this was as a result of reverse migration; I'm not exactly sure why they went back to their original homeland in the East- I'll have to do some more research on that- but their 'Igboness' is undeniable.

As for your point about the locals using some Bini words to name their villages, well, that is to be expected considering that they must have spent several years living under the Benin Kingdom, in which the lingua franca was Bini. Its probably similar to how a lot of Igbos today mix some English words into Igbo- a poor comparison but I hope that you understand what I'm saying. We may have some similarities with the Bini people, that's what happens when you live under an empire, but we are not Bini.

It is time to do away with this word "Delta Igbo". It is as insulting as calling me 'Anambra Igbo'. All this divide and rule is as a result of being in the British contraption called Nigeria. When we get our independence, everything from Asaba to Igbanke in Edo will be incuded in the "Greater Igbo confederation" and the words 'Anioma' and 'Delta-Igbo' will die a natural death. Igbo is Igbo.

It's actually sounds Bini and Igbo so it's not at all far fetched to believe that. Going by your post, you'd think that most Igbos in the Anioma/Onitsha axis have Bini surnames. My surname is very very rare in my area. The reverse migration theory is actually credible considering that Onitsha was one of the trade centres in that part of the world.
