I grew up watching mothers feed their babies like this, and I always felt uncomfortable with it. Even me, I knw I might be fed like this too.

Some children are very stubborn. They just won't eat no matter what u do n that's where ds force feeding comes in...most of us grew up wt it watching our siblings force fed while leaking catarrh, kicking n screaming! The downside of ds is,the food can go through d wrong passage n d baby can choke to death! How else do u really make a stubborn baby eat?
Omg just look at the child in this picture, he looks so helpless like they r going to kill him.. I pity him for real cry

Now there is a genuine debate on the appropriateness of this kind of feeding method.
So let's discuss, is dis child abuse??

It's not to me.

Like you said, we grew up to know this method and so far so good, it's just to make a child eat. I think the kids don't wanna take the food after the parents has done breastfeeding them.

Do you even know what "child abuse" means? undecided

You cant even classify "pacification" to a certain extent as child abuse

All that "matters" is the intention of the parent, if the Goal of "an action" is "BENEFICIAL" to the child

Such acts irrespective of how extreme they may seem are justified! #To ask is to make obvious ur ignorance

Very popular among yoruba folks. I've seen a baby cry her lungs out while her mom "fed" her akanmu through "all channels" grin.

......and by "all channels", I mean her mouth and her NOSE!

Its very wrong, unhealthy and unhygienic. Whatever happened to good-old feeding bottles undecided

Don't really like being around anytime a woman is doing this to her child, but then, it's a necessary evil. Some kids won't just eat no matter how hard you try and as bbmpin has rightly said, it's indeed beneficial to the child.

Pretty sure I was fed the same way cry

The scary part is that the child can't cry out for help and even if he tries to gasp for air, hot akamu is forced down his throat cry

The child is obviously lacking in nutrients which results in loss of appetite. This malnutrition stems from the mother's refusal to continue breast feeding after 2-3 months simply because she doesn't want her breasts to fall. So whose fault is it exactly? grin

Op, that's just a feeding method and i'm sure those parents were very much in control of what they were doing to keep the child from choking.
