What now happens to all the efforts to stimulate local production of rice??

Nigeria and policy somersaults eh.

Well, some short term advantage will accrue from this:
-cheaper rice

Long term disadvantages
-pressures on naira will continue as people continue sourcing for scarce foreign exchange for rice imports.
-if the local production is not well protected and nourished, this new directive can kill off the production.
I understand your point but lets be realistic the local rice won't be enough for the whole country, they will still ban it when the local production can serve the whole country.

Abeg keep quiet. You people were the one screaming that his policies drove up the price of rice, now he has agreed to the pampering that the consumerist nation Nigeria wants and you are still wailing
When you start something, you stick to it, regardless of what people say.

You're the dull@rd here Mr Man. Buhari didn't tighten security at the borders because imported rice were harmful for consumption. What they said was that, as a result of the ban of rice, importers were importing rice with coffins and mixing rice with other harmful substances so they could evade arrest at the border.

Try and use your brain next time. You don't just rush to term the President a dull@rd at any given opportunity.

Black people are useless to the modern world. We produce and contribute nothing. What is the essence of black lives? We dig out oil sell it for dollars and spend the same dollar to import food and range rover, whilst remaking wretched poor and deseased? We are doomed!!!!

This government is a piece of work. For generations to come they will be remembered for their incoherent economic policies that leave the common man reeling in confusion and hunger.

My own sha is that by Christmas the cost of rice should have fallen to 10k/bag angry

Yeye dey smell

They have you and others thinking just exactly as they want by creating the impression that Buhari and his government is confused.

Buhari is the head and face of the New World Order in Nigeria and perhaps in Africa, their motto is:

ORDO AB CHAO

ORDER OUT OF DISORDER.

Like a crab that already knows it's destination but first goes left, then right, then round about, then it starts the rigmarole all over again, just to confuse its predator or prey, sit there and continue being deceived, orun to fe e da loju gbogbo yin.

that's the truth, our local production cant meet up with our consumption power yet, thus, the need to relax the policy and groom our local production rate until she is able to meet up. but for now, this policy will only make our people groan in pains.we shall all now notice that the prices of our food stuffs will now be forced down, this is also because RICE plays a serious determinant role on other food stuffs.

A combination of increased dollar rate and the import levy should increase the price of foreign rice and make local production attractive. If the borders aren't opened the local farmer will increase price astronomically and above foreign the alternative. For me, the timing of the move.

One of the most sensible comment so far

The government of hunger!! !

Baned importation of rice without prior provision of enable environment to large production in the country. Banning the rice is not the issue but no means of meeting the country high demand for the product!

Yeye government!

Hmmmm, this one is strong, well if you ask me, this is a good move, and also not to good. Good in the sense that, opening the border will easy tension as rice will flow in and the prices would drop at least for a while, so people can buy and probably keep, because people setting up rice farms aren't ready, people are starving, however the government should shut down the borders after a short while, when our rice production increases, this way everyone will be fine, both investors and consumers.
