"What is with Nigeria and Carbines?"..... Why don't we just standardise on one carbine? The CTAR-21 is great, why buy the X-95, the C8 and CX4- Berratta?
who knows..test run??

That's true oh! It was your comment i read. Although, i remember been totally against this idea. I still hate it. Apparently your jazz is too strong.

It just doesn't end, it's a major problem in that SBS unit. They seem to have tons of multiple uniforms in the SBS, if they cannot keep track of them.

It is a major problem. However in a strive to standardise, the military has now come up with 2 types( Desert and Woodland) of camouflage uniforms for officers and men across the 3 services. So you know see Air Force, Army and Navy personnel wearing the same type of Camo. A pattern that we've continued to see recently as the old uniforms are taken out of service.

The problem now seems to come from the Special Forces units. They have a green and their own type of desert cammo. The Navy SBS takes it to a new level, however for the navy they standardise, but their uniforms are at-least 10 different types.

According to what i read, this blue pattern for the SBS is supposed to be the naval version of the general military standardised type of the cammo. It's just a lot of unnecessary confusion.
I asked a friend; A Lt in Supply and transport about the camo scheme proliferation and a summary of it is back in the day instead of a badge on ur arm signifying ur Brigade/Bn..camo shades were used

I believe as things wind down in the N.E...the standard will be fully covered

on the special forces...no b only u tire grin
but this blue pattern in d pic,,,I strongly bliv it has come to stay...I don't know if they receive some form of allowance for uniforms or sumthn

The X-95 is not news, i always spot immigration guys carrying them about their HQ in Abuja. As for the CX4, that was an error just like Alex badeh. SF guys will always have a variety to choose from, it's among their benefits.
However i agree with you, standardization is the key.

Test run what again? angryangry

We have been using the Tavor-21 for more than 8 years now. DSS use them, Navy, Air Force and elements of the Army. The CTAR-21 is perfect, it is short, compact and adequate. Why buy the X-95, why the C-8, why the CX4? They should all instead go back to the AK-47.

I was hoping we would just get additional CTAR-21s instead. It works well everywhere, while we purchase more kits for personnel.

The things enthusiasts do! If only we could get 2 or 3 proper corvettes to our fleet. Aradu is a massive ship, you know Argentina classifies her as a Destroyer?

Never understood why they did that......At +- 3500 tons the Aradu is small for a Frigate....never mind a destroyer!!

But hey its armament that counts!! Compared to the FREMM class frigate ,which is double in weight, the Meko200AN is fvcking well armed!!

Yeah, the Meko 200AN is very well armed for a Frigate. The Algerian boat's armarment are quite substantial. A surface to surface capability would have been a fantastic addition though.

Sorry Bro but i dont get what your saying?? Both Algerian and South African Meko200s are armed with Surface to surface missiles! Algerian Ships are/will be armed with RBS15s and ours with Exocet missiles.......which will possibly be replaced by the Brahmos in the next 1-2 years under project syne.

I usually laugh when journerlist reporting on security say the poachers, bandits, robbers were using 'sofisticated' weapons!! ... and i'm like what is these sofisticated weapons these jounerlists repeatedly keep mentioning, is it like a laser weapon system that can aquire multiple targets at the same time or something like thar

I don't see us getting the Brahmos.

Maybe Exocet block 3.

Back in the day we used to have an entire air mobile brigade (6 S.A.I, First City Regiment, Prince Alfred's Guard).

They still exist, but I think only 6 S.A.I is fully qualified with only elements of FCR and PAG being qualified.

Anyway, now we could never deploy more than a battalion without stripping helo's from other duties, and the loss of the Super Frelons has greatly reduced capabilities.

We would need 20 Oryx to move an entire battalion in two waves. That leaves only 19 for the rest of the Airforce. Even if you throw in the Augusta's it doesnt change much.

Its sad that we will never get those capabilities back... all I want is Apocalypse Now ride of the Valkyries in the African bush sad sad sad sad

In theory.

In practice the Puma could match the Super Frelons in the operational environment(Hot and High) in terms of payload. So it wasn't really a capable heavy lift helicopter for our needs at sea level it could perform.

Both the Puma and Super Frelons could only manage to carry less than 16 passengers again depending on the equipment they(passengers) are carrying. The Oryx can carry more making it better than the Super Frelon in hot and High environments.

Journalism is at its worst in Africa.

I read this online. I got so irritated.

The six of the jets that went on attacking mission today to bomb the creeks were met with strong fire power from the Niger-Delta freedom fighters.

and if you asked the same journalist the assortment of weapon in possession of Niger-Delta freedom ,he/she can even name one !it sad really .sometime you seen our photo journalist invite in a military exercises or exhibition.rather than concentrate on the weaponry, soldiers and equipment used, they spend most of the time concentrating their coverage on senior officers and government officials.
