"Trina!'' Gen. Okafor called as he slowly walked into his house.

"Yes? What?'' Was Trina's curt reply as she walked down the stairs with a smirk on her face.

Okafor stopped pacing about the living room notice the bruises on her face. He had beaten her senseless the previous night over the drug deals document. She was just too stubborn to hand over the papers. He had almost turned the beating into torture. He knew she'd talk when he starts to practise all the gory torture modes he knew on her. But hadn't she suffered enough? She'd been enduring his beatings silently, she also could not work because he stopped her from. Wasn't he making this woman go through a lot because of money?

His eyes left her bruised face and swerved to her body. She was in a pink gown that hugged her features warmly. Her brown hair dangling before her shoulders. She had hot attributes, he couldn't deny it. Her visit to the gym had helped her maintain a trimmed figure. Her breasts were still as firm as ever and her behind....smoking hot. Her skin was also flawless. He wondered why he didn't love her still. Maybe, just maybe because he was fifty years of age and was already used nigerian women. She must have loved him when they got married even though the marriage was just like a business deal. He could see in her eyes love and admiration for him on the wedding.

'wasn't it even my negligence of her that made her become a couquette?.... She was loyal to a fault the first five years....... Argh!!! Okafor Eugene, you are destroying this young woman.' He chided himself. 'you didn't even give her kids to keep her company'

He looked at her sad beautiful face again and felt a sting of guilt eating his heart faster than cankerworms. It reminded him of the look of him mother after his father had sent torrents and torrents of slaps and fists at her. He was doing the same thing his dead mother pleaded him not to do.

He eyed the envelope in his hands, it contained the divorce papers. All Trina needed now to be free was to put her signature on it. He flung the envelope onto a chair. He wasn't going to marry twice. His dead mother will not rest in peace. He'd try to see if he can develop feelings for her. He had to save his marriage.

Trina was opposite him rubbing her hands in worry. Is he here from work just to beat her again? She hadnt gone out all day because of her bruise. She made sure to stay as far as possible away from him.

"I'm sorry for hitting you and treating you less than a normal man should treat his woman.'' Okafor said.

She thought she was hearing another person speak. The Okafor she knew never apologised.

'God, what is this snake up to again?'

"I truly sorry Trina. I've acted cowardly and foolishly and I'm ashamed to face you now. I would like to make it up to you. I'm not a man of words but I can make it up to you with my actions. Lets go see a movie together''

That was the breaking point for Trina. She pulled her gown up to allow her run and sped straight upstairs with hot tears burning down her cheeks. How long had she been hoping to hear him speak gently to her. Now he was doing it and she couldn't stay.....

Gen. Okafor heard her door slam shut. He sighed sadly, picked the envelope and got out of the house

A flaslight beamed in the truck full of soldiers. Henry had gotten up. The safety of the men were all on him. He beamed the light at the soldiers in the truck.

"Is everyone alright?'' He asked. "I want to hear twenty counts of yes from everyone''

The count started. Soon he heard Shindara yell her own yes and complain about someone resting his on her head.

"Okay good, The last person by the door should open it slowly, we might be under attack. Everyone should get prepared for confrontation.'' Henry pointed his flash light at the door. A soldier tried his best to open it but since the door was sideways now, he had trouble opening it.

The soldier stopped to explain to Henry that the lock was bent but a sound made him shut up. Someone was stuggling to open the truck from outside. They all corked their guns and got ready to shoot.

"Lieutenant, are you all okay? It's sergeant Nuru, over'' Henry's walkie talkie blared.

"Sergeant Nuru, everyone is fine, are you the one struggling with the door?, over'' Henry asked.

"affirmative sir. Over''

The door was pulled open and all soldiers trooped out to see the havoc caused.

"Hello sergeant. How about the other driver?'' Henry asked.

"He's dead sir. His head smashed on the ground through the wndow when the truck fell to it's sides'' Seargent Nuru replied, blood dripping down his head.

"Why did the truck stop in the first place?'' Danladi asked somewhat angry.

"We noticed spikes on the road and ran over it. If hadn't stopped, the truck might veered into the forest and there will be a lot of casualitie''

Henry saw the deflated front tyres and sighed. "Go get treatment for your head. Sergeant Shindara will take care of it for you''

"Lieutenant, the drivers in the other truck are both dead'' Clement came to report.

"hmmmmn. Okay. If spikes were here, definitely they must have known of our coming. We probably have a mole in our midst back at the base'' Henry said to Danladi.

"I thought so too. The rebels might be anywhere near'' Danladi replied.

Henry nodded in agreement. " get away from the vehicles and hide behind trees. Those trucks can explode if shot. Four men should servey our surroundings now''

Four men broke away from them and crept slowly into the woods on both sides of the road.

Henry left Danladi and went to Shindara who was busy treating sergeant Nuru.

"Are you okay?'' He asked.

"I'm fine, you?'' She smilled at him as she tightened the bandage on sergeant Nuru's head.

"I'm okay too. I hope you can now see why I didn't want you to come.''

"I'm here already and I feel sick inside already'' She stuck out her tongue. She was thrilled to be around. She wondered why she wasn't as worried as before.

"please, stay close to me throughout today'' Henry pleaded ''Sergeant, how far is this place to Kano?'' Henry asked sergeant Nuru who was wincing in pain at how shindara pulled out broken glasses from hid laps.

"roughly fifteen minutes drive sir''

"lieutenant, we've found a path that leads to a small camp some miles away. We believe thats the stronghold of the rebels, over'' Henry's walkie talkie sounded.

"great job, where are you?'' Henry replied.

" we're due west. We left some red tag on trees so you'd locate us easily. We'll wait for you.over' came the reply.

Henry dialed up the two other men that took the other way and called them back. He passed the new information he got to the other men. They slowly marched into the forest due west, following the red tags.

"would you care for some?'' Danladi offered a gum pack to Henry

"no Dan. It's not the time for chewing gum'' Henry replied trying to be strick to business.

"just try one. It relieves stress.'' Danladi dropped one into Henry's hand. He smilled sinisterly as Henry threw the gum into his mouth.

''Thanks.'' said Henry.

''If only you knew' Danladi thought will another evil smile.

Henry chewed the gum as he studied the enviroment. He scanned all around the sides of the small camp for snipers or anyone who wasn't in the camp.

"Danladi, Clement and you two. Follow me. The rest of you guys should lie low and wait for our signal'' Henry pointed at two large tested men who had passed his test. The group of four men stalked closer to the camp as silently as possible. Their cammo blending perfectly with the leaves around them. The bushes were too thick for anyone to notice them. Henry and his little group neared the small camp from the part where less soilders guarded.

It was a roundish patch of cleared land the rebel soldiers camped on. Tents had been pegged into the ground to house the rebels. A few mud huts had been raised in some corners,. The corner that was less guarded. The four men could see the army trucks loaded with ammo and some ranger jeeps parked and covered with a polythene cover just close to the few huts around. A few local women moved about the camp with carry trays of what seemed like food into tents.
The women seemed unhappy and scared. The rebels probably had raided one village and taken them hostage to satisfy their hunger and sexual needs.

"Above all, none of those women should be injured'' Henry warned the three with him and they nooded. Their blood pumping heavily through their veins in wait for action. Danladi particularly seemed too excited in the whole thing. Henry summed it all up as love for his job and focused on the camp.

"Okay, here's the plan. It's possible they're waiting for us since they laid spikes down for us. So, from my findings, they don't know we're in this part of the camp since we took a totally different route to get here. We have to secure those vehicles to block them from getting more ammo in case they run out of bullets'' Henry lectured in whispers.

"But lieutenant. What about the truck full of ammo we left behind.no one's guarding it.'' Danladi questioned. Henry noodedat him.

"The engine is damaged and I punctured the tyres and there's also a surprise for any rebel stupid enough to near it'' Henry replied.

Henry summoned the rest of the squad and they arrived slowly and spread around. He informed them of the strategy and every man took his position.

Henry,Danladi and Clement climbed over the bamboo fence demarkating the bush from the camp.the snuck unto two rebels seating by one hut and enjoying the shade. A quick snap in the neck and both of the rebels were dead and dragged off into the bushes. Five more men joined the three and slowly, they took out rebels as they crept closer to the vehicles using the huts to hide.

"Hei.'' The group heard a man shout. He blew a whistle in a bid to alert the rest. Henry was quick to sink a bullet into his forehead. But the deed had been done. Rebel soldiers poured out of the tents and huts, fully armed, they were waiting for them just as Henry suggested.

Those rebels that came out of the huts met their early deaths as Henry and his group sent bullets into them as soon as they stepped out. Soon all soldiers including Shindara had entered the camp and take over the huts using the little window to aim. At the few rebels holding them off at the tents.

Henry felt someone beside him nudging him. He look angrily at the person to find out it was Shindara.

"get back into the hut. What the hell are you doing here?'' He asked as he took cover when the rebel soldiers aimed at him.

"I think they have some sort of shield in their tents, moreover, I.m here to save you'' Shindara replied sharply.

"The only person needing saving here is you....'' Henry shot back at her. He aimed at a rebel who was quick to duck behind a tent.

Shindara swiftly took an aim at a rebel creeping close to them from the bushes sine Henry had decided to hide by an hut close to the bush. The bullet met its mark. She cocked her head at Henry and grinned.

"Do you not know what death is?'' Henry asked amused at her accuracy. He reloaded his rifle and spied at his men. Two soldiers were down already. He shook his head.

"Well, I'm immortal!!" Shindara shouted over the sound of firings around them. She studied where they were and noticed a large fallen tree was close to the vehicles a little bit far away from them. She calculated how long it'd take for her to make a dash for the trunk. It'd serve as a very good position to take out te rebels remaining.

"See that log of wood over there? Cover me while I make a run for it.'' She told Henry who wanted to stop her.

"Stay right here!'' Henry screamed but Shindara was already on the go. He pulled out oh his hiding place and planted bullets into skulls of rebels who tried to aim at her. In the three seconds Shindara took to run to the log,Henry had shot three rebels in the head. His accuracy was better, when it had to do with the safety of Shindara. He ran to join her also but a missle was launched at him from a bazooka.

Shindara shot at the man with the launcher but she missed. Henry saw the launcher coming at him. He jumped and stretched like a fish towards the log of wood, he rolled on the ground and landed safely behind the huge log. The missle exploded on his former position.

"I hope you see what you almost caused!'' He pulled out his walkie talkie. ''five men should break off and boycott those bastards from behind, over''.

"Boss, I have Henry in sight now but the lady is by him. I can't take a clean shot'' A sniper hiding in a tree far away communicated with Danladi who was shooting at nothing in particular.

"What do I care. Shoot even if it means they both die, I'll go for her twin'' Danladi replied angrily. He turned round to see Clement looking at him. He didn't know when Clement had slipped beside him along with some soldiers.

"This bug must die" Danladi thought.

The sniper sighed that he might have to waste Shindara too. The shot still wasn't clear since she was right beside Henry.

Pfff pfff... He released two fat bullets..

Shindara felt something hot sting her hand. A bullet just bruised her. She turned to look at Henry only to find him pressed on the log with his eyes holding no gaze. He was hit. Her brain almost shut down. She checked him out to find he was shot twice in the chest in his heart region.

"Lieutenant Henry is down. I repeat, lietenant Henry is down.'' She screamed into her walkie talkie ''Bring all injured soldiers to the east side by the vehicles and secure a jeep to transport them out. O....ov....over'' She choked on her sobs.

Few minutes later, she was driving straigt to Kano in one of the jeeps with Henry and two other injured soldiers alongside an healthy soldier.

"Take them to Kano. We'll finishup here and come meet you there. Lt. Henry mustn't die'' Clement had said when he ushered her into the jeep. The other soldiers were acting as a shield just to help Henry. Danladi inclusive but no one was aiming at him. If only Clement knew what fate would befall him on the battle field, he'd had left Danladi to lead the squad to victory while he escorted Sindara away. But it was too late, his clock was ticking.
