Congrats, nice one... God is with u..

Pls, an undergrudate degree program of 24months was mentioned ... Is it that u have an OND certificate already in Nigeria?

Secondly are u going for an Undergraduate programm (BSC) ? Cos u mention 48months...

12 month make one year, 12 x 4 = 48 , that is to say 4years undergraduate degree

Visa approved (oct-19-2016) this morning 6:30am All Glory be to God Almighty, the Alfa and Omega of my journey, I can never forget that life changing date.
It was a day before my interview finger crossed very tensed started calling walspring like “Kilode” for voice mock interview while I am already at yabatech school to lodge for easy access to embassy in time,11:20pm the shower of blessing started dropping (the rain was so heavy) … fastforward….3:00am God woke me up I could not sleep anymore I started dressing up and singing praise and worship, I got to the embassy I was the second in the line then later lost my spot stayed some where in 15th, I just kept singing within my mind to ease tension, I didn’t even think about the interview anymore because I was just enjoying my celestial hymn.. fast-forward… after all security check up, I finally got to the combusting chamber (hot room), I saw all the windows naira land has been talking about, Window 5 called me in, He was not smiling at all the last applicant before was denied, I came to him and the 12 minutes drills began..
Me: good morning sir with a big smile
Vo: didn’t answer, can I have your document please?
Me: I gave him
Vo: typed for just 20secs, how do you come about BFIT?
Me: I catalog several schools based on my interest and preffered teaching approach using academically search engines such as www.engineeringschools.com, google.com, and finally narrowed my search down to technology using www.usnews.com (memorized answer from NL)
Vo: how long is this course gonna take you?
Me: it is going to take me the total period of 48 months sir
Vo: how long did you practice auto mechanics?
Me: (I was so confused, then quickly remembered that I filled 24month in my ds160 form, please note fill your ds160 form yourself) It took me the period of 24 months sir. (voice was shaking this time then I quickly put myself together)
Vo: what type of degree is this?
Me: oh! Its an undergraduate degree sir
Vo: what course are you going for? (touching my passport, I was like blood of Jesus, I didn’t just know where the confident came in from, the Lord just took control of the interview hence)
Me: I am basically going for mechanical engineering technology, which is basically about the fundamental analysis of engine, trouble shooting, manufacturing, maintainance and majored in automotive tech 113 that deals basically about the chassis, the internal combustion of engine where the intake valve take flow in of gas mixture and being ignite by the spark plug to produce a power stroke which moves the crankshaft to complete transmission ( by this time I was at the top of my voice moving from left to right with demonstrations showing confidents, while VO was shaking his head and removed his hand from my passport).
Vo: so tell me why are you going to BFIT?
Me: I am practically oriented in nature and BFIT offers a practical approach especially in research areas manufacturing and automotive. It is also affiliated to engineering firms such as procter and gamble one of the best engineering firm in united state which basically offers internships to BFIT students.
Vo: who is sponsoring you?
Me: my elder brother
Vo: what does he do?
Me: He is a mechanical Engineer who works in **oil and gas ** company as a chief Cargo survior.
Vo: ( just kept typing and I was just praying internally) here is your i-20, you are gonna be needing it at the p.o.e make sure you keep it well and pick up your visa 3 business day in one of the location in the paper…
NOTE: No document was asked, Please be confident and speak clearly.. and when you hear people say be honest it means answer question according to what you fill in your ds160 form…
Special thanks to God almighty, Walspring (the guy ready to pay with his money to make sure things go well), Bright, texrem, femi321, tominsin, islammy, so many others who has contributed to this forum one way or the other I say a very big thanks to you all, may God Almighty grant you all your heart desire Amen.

You did pretty well for undergraduate. Graduate students should prepare a better answer on how you come about school. Website research is not the best option. It does not allow u start in an interesting and unique style. VOs are bored of hearing usnews.com

Here are the ways you can get your transcript;

1. Ask a nairalander who has an official email (his/her university email address(es) e.g lastname.firstname@ucalgary.ca). When filling your application for transcript form, put this email in the section of the email address you want them to send this transcript to. Follow up with the person on nairaland, whatsapp, email. The person will then tell you if s/he has receive your transcript or not. if the person receive am, s/he will then send it to you. This is how some people here got their transcript

2. Login to your postgraduate portal at the SPGS Unilag site. Check your dashboard, download your transcript from there. The disadvantage (2) has is that your score will appear not the grade whereas (1) will just include only your grade. E.g, if you have 70 in a course, it might be calculated as B+ (I may be wrong) but if they just include A in a course without the score, it will be calculated as A. Please, go with option (1)

Success ahead in your application for graduate studies.

NB: Look for atleast two people that has this email. Ask the big sis Lagosismyhome, Walspring, Happday, Justwise

**cheers**

I don't think it is a nice idea to go by route one. I have a friend post hia transcript to my office however, it was never delivered to me and my grad program admin said it is likely because it is a transcript.

I think I answered this very question in the last season of this thread...yeah..there you are. I found it. It's pasted below:

You flopped all the opportunities to sell yourself. You were too lukewarm. No excitement in your answer. I am sure you barely spoke loud.

I want to stress here that VO are tired of hearing about online research for school. How many school can you truly research online? Every sch online will sell itself. Wouldn't you if you had a school. Therefore online details is a very bias means of choosing a school. You would probably be deceived and frustrated once you get to the school.

One good way to find out about the school is past experiences of students and staff of the school who are by themselves experience the school. So telling VO that a formal senior or brother of yours attended the school and told you of the numerous opportunities the school offers and saying he found employment immediately he got back to nigeria because of his acquired skill sets is a good way to impress the VO. You could say he was elevated to senior position because of his contribution to his workplace six months after returning from us.

Notice I always tie my answer to nigeria because of home ties. I cannot over emphasize the importance of that.

On why you choose the course, stop saying the curriculum or class ratio. Most school in US has same structure of curriculum. Why? They all research into best structure of curriculum and they virtually turn up with same curriculum. However, current research differs per university. So ur attraction to a named researched by prof so so will be apt for you to mention. Go further to say you are in touch with the prof. If you have a good sat or GRE score. Chip in that he was happy with your CV and GRE score.

See? You are the one leading the interview. At this stage, he would be interested in your score. VO would be impressed.

I hope I made a good point. This is a money-worth points. You got it free. So be nice to someone else.

Yes hearing from your friend is good. But you don't have to stop there. you need to be specific on those qualities your friend highlighted about his school that made you wanna go there. Something the school does different from many others

And immidelatly he returned back to Nigeria after his study He got a job and within 8months he was promoted to a managerial position becos of the skills he contributed to the organisation which he acquired from the sch...

pls .. I will like to send u are private email or WhatsApp u.. Still got a lot to learm from u... My interview is coming soon.. God bless u

yes. this is good. but its better to say a friend of yours who is an alumnus of the school and to be specific on the opportunity. Numerous opportunity such as internship placement as the school have many corroboration with industries is a better statement. Let each of your sentences be meaningful, active and specific. You are trying to convince someone here about your passion and motivation. Give it substance.

Unfortunately, I may not be able to connect out of here except for foreign payment. I have got many PMs. Its easier to reach you here and others will benefit too

Nothing wrong at all ........ It is allowed (f1 and f2) , you just need to demonstrate that you are a credible student and you are able to support all applicants . The support part is key

there is no right or wrong answer so just be honest and pray for the best ....... Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 10 by Mayflowa(m): 3:19pm On Oct 20, 2016
This is a lot but let me see what I can do . But be aware VO will not give you all the time to be hitting around a point. Just be specific about that point and be precise as possible. Normally, you will lose interest in people that tend to unequivocal when they meet you for the first time.

VO: why the SCH(ship).. ?
Me: ship is a public university that's offers and MBA degree program that is of high quality and outstanding value and also ship college of biz, offers an AACSB accredited MBA that will help me to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy. And I also chose ship , cos ship MBA is reputable, affordable and convinent , and its faculty is committed to teachings that will help me have more better understanding about the biz world and develop more on my biz knowledge and technology skills.. Or

The problem here is that there are far too many reputable and high quality MBA institutions than your SHIP. Harvard, yale, INSEAD, Stanford, PRINCETON, Emory, penn state, pensyvalnia and many too numerous are better than SHIP. So your quality statement doesn't hold water. Again most MBA are AACSB accredicted. So that can't be a unique reason. why didn't you go for the other ones? why SHIP? infact, the other institutions faculty teach and research better than your SHIP. Some recently won Nobel prizes for economics. Generally, faculty in US institution are all committed to teaching. They won't get paid if they are not. Everyone in US are committed to their job even! lol. I am driving you towards specifism. Nor vex

I can use these point instead:

Me: I chose ship becos its offers business internship programm (BIP), that will help me gain more practical working experience on the job, and also it's offers and AACSB accredited MBA that is of high quality and understanding value and that will help me suced in a rapidly changing global economy..
Also ships MBA is reputable , affordable and convinent..

Pls how do u see this point?
Pls help me out if any amendment and addition..
Thx

Yes! This is a killer statement. It is better thought of. After that statement, add the one: They do this by their special intern placement in many renown organisations. This opportunity really does excite me as one is able to directly apply classroom knowledge to the field.

In addition , some other question like why the MBA/why the course, what will u use the degree for etc are describe below?

VO: why the course or why MBA?

Me: I want to advance my career and acquire knowledge and skills that will help me succeed in a rapidly changing global economy, and to also have a more better understanding about the biz world and to develop more on my biz knowledge and technology skills and immidately after my study to return back to my home country Nigeria , to take up a govt job as a biz analyst and to utilize the knowledge and skills in which i have acquired at ship university for the successful development of my national Nigeria
.

Let be clear here. VO basically ask the same questions using many variants. A well thought out answer can shorten the interview. I was only ask one question in my interview and that was it. The transcript was posted here. So how did you find out about the school and why SHIP is same answer which you start off with your alumnus friend. On why MBA? Again be specific to your situation. You said you have a 6 year experience on your job. You will have to tell the VO your job and the position you hold. And say this is a mid level job or junior management level job. And because you are looking to take your career into the next phase of your career goal of being in senior management. So MBA will do this for you as it strengthen your managerial and human skills.

VO: what wil u use the degree for

Me: immidiately after my study , i will return back to my home country Nigeria, to take up a govt job as a biz analyst and to utilize the knowledge and skills in which i have acquired at ship university for the successful development of my national Nigeria

You see, no VO will ask you any question on this after reading your immediate answer

VO: did u write any international exam?

Me: I did not write any international exam, becos I have a good academic records in my undergraduate degree(first degree) ,I have a high GPA score coupled with my over 6 good years of working experince in a biz related field and ships recognises that and admission was granted to me , and no need for international exam..

You are explaining too much as if you were guilty. Just state the admission was given to you based on your upper level academic qualification and plenty years of experience. They feel I will contribute to the knowledge base of the class.

Note : I pray this question shld not comeup, shld in case I will taclke it with boldness & with the help of God.. My main reason for not writing this exam was that, I was academically admitted becos I have a high GPA score upper credit 3.43/4.00 in my undergraudate degree and good years of working experience and since i been academically admitted , I see know reason spending huge money on the exam, I rather use the money to support other coming up expenses in sch

Don't pray! Pray for wisdom and knowlegde. Actually any question is an opportunity to shine

Pls are this point ok and convincing enough?, pls help me out if any major amendment needed..

I hope I helped!

!

Just to add all the good MBA have internship / recruitment exercise .......Its a standard in most MBAs programs .......

Also the applicants need to be careful about the use of reputable .......blc i remember this fall session when an applicant said he choosing Murray state because its reputable and that tick the VO off because Murray state is not reputable so dont call it reputable if its not... ... SHIP MBA is not reputable , might be an ok program but not reputable so choose your words carefully
