I remember saying on this thread, when the formation came out that Kelechi cannot play as a lone striker.

Well, we've seen that. He's least effective in that role, hopefully, Rohr can play him behind Etebo or with Etebo in the next match. No one has to be dropped from this team

So when Kelechi Iheanacho played as a lone striker for City and scored two goals in open play against Aston Villa, what was that?
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:40pm On Nov 13, 2016
When you guys talk like this, you make it look as if Iheanacho has not played as a loan striker before and played well.

Is it not few months ago Iheanacho put up a brilliant performance in the derby game against Manchester United playing as a lone striker?
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:41pm On Nov 13, 2016
Simple. The Algerians defenders did a good job caging Iheanacho but it was to their detriment. Mikel, Iwobi and Moses benefited from it.

Bros, you need to watch Cameroon matches. Against Zambia, it was a draw because of how good the Zambian keeper, with anyother keeper it would have been 5-1 or more. Cameroon outplayed Algeria too so they are not pushovers
no, it was a draw because Cameroon got a penalty, else, Zambia would have walked out of Yaounde with 3 points.

Is it not the same keeper that Kelechi and Iwobi scored against on their turf? Did he suddenly turn to Buffon over the course of a month?

When Algeria drew Cameroon, some people gave the excuse too that Cameroon's goalie was topnotch as well.

What happened to his genius against Zambia? Abeg, you people should give credit where it's due. Zambia played great against Cameroon, dazall

We will beat Cameroon and do so confortably

it's his weakest position....he's least effective in that position.

That's the point

It is not his weakest position because we have seen brilliant performances from him this season there.

As soon as Musa came in and the attention reduced on Nacho, he was brilliant. Sad he did not score that chance. His movement and shot was super.

The Algerians caged him well. That was all.

The midfield had problems creating chances from him because he was tightly caged. With Mikel, Iwobi and Moses playing this well, we will likely not get the same treatment in other games. With more Room, Iheanacho will excel in that role.

Etebo would not be effective as the lead striker. He plays great as a SS, AMF or box to box midfielder. Someone has to go for a striker like Ighalo, Olanrewaju or Fanendo Adi; someone who can hold the ball and score as well.

I agree with u but here's a secret some players get away with it and some don't. Messi nutmegs who he wants when he wants and not a word is said, people just don't like Neymar as a personality. Iwobi is ur regular boy next door, u won't even believe he would do such a thing.
yeah I was really suprised that iwobi could pull such stunt..

remember we we're winning them by 2 goals.. so they we're frustrated.. nutmeging and ridiculing them will be like when conte was jinjering his fans when they we're beatin man u by 4 goals.. ofcourse u know what mourinho told him..

that's not good at all

Zambia had a maximum of two shots on target, Cameroon had atleast 15, Cameroon dominated, Zambia were lucky

. dat I Dont agree Nigeria other rohr hasn't bn a cross and nod team mind u so many teams nowadays Dont focus on aerial prowess like before defenders have improve 80% of cross are won by defenders now but on d ground penalties can be won ball can be controlled and interplay can occur for example aguero can't nod in man city mane can't nod on Liverpool but that doesn't mean they ain't suitable I will tell u what Nigerian rb and lb ain't d best crosses anyway so I prefer we stick with dis

mind u u guys are forgetting if u change ihenachos position it means one of iwobi moses etebo onazi Mikel has to be on the bench and who is even gonna strike ighalo hasn't scored for us in years same with ideye success is a good option but will u bench any of d above mentioned starts for issac success the answer is no they can come in as sub

ihenachos presence created chances for moses and others its like cr7 in Madrid whether he plays well or not u have to have one eye on him so bale shines becos of dat

mind u d algerians knew before the game ihenacho had scored in all his 4 games for super eagles so Algeria man marked him creating space

Holistically, he doesn't have the attributes of a Center forward. He is a natural attacking midfielder or a SS.

if you can't nick in one of 15 shots, it says a lot of their attack.

Still, nothing to shiver over. Our team will only get better between now and August

my problem is that people think he is untouchable. If he wants to be the CF, no problem because I don't see him playing a box to box better than Etebo, or a LMF better than Iwobi and Mikel isn't going to sit, so let Nacho remain there, if Kayode is invited and he outplays him, let Nacho sit! He is a bench piece at Mancity, a prospect, not a star, we have stars so I don't see the issue here

Etebo?! Etebo is our box to box, you don't expect to see him there all the time. That was entirely on Onazi and there is no argument there at all

No it was Etebo who tried to stay with Mahrez before he passed it for their goal. Onazi and Etebo both played in front of the defense, when one went up the other covered.

against Tanzania, we had 20 shots and converted one then the next match we had 3 and converted 2. Luck matters a lot. We can win but they won't be easy

Onazi never went forward, he was the sitting DMF, Etebo had to run from the center circle to come and mark Mahrez so that Onazi would free up and stay in the middle but Onazi had to join the chase too, leaving his own man open

what was Onazi doing in that second goal? Echejile was down because they blocked the first shot, what was Onazi doing at the left side of defence?! You have a LB and a LCB and both were charging the ball, for God's sake maintain your own position closer to the edge of the box
Funny enough, Onazi sat in front of the defence on the left side, while Etebo sat on the right part in the dual pivot role. As a good analyst I was expecting you to ask where Etebo was in these action moments.

Clearly from the still pictures, Onazi was about covering for Elderson to block the Mahrez shot.
Why aren't you asking where Etebo was? Am curious

Because Etebo was more of a CMF in that match or you didn't notice that? Onazi was the standing DMF and Etebo was more of a CMF. Meanwhile, no matter how many DMFs you have, their primary work is to man the middle, if the play happened close to the throw-in then I would understand the covering part but this is inside the box, a DMF should be standing infront of the two CBs in that position, the LB and LCB had that covered, he went to mark a player who already had 2 players on him, isn't that poor decision making.
