Finally I'm testing ntel on a swift modem I unlocked, I'm in Yaba and with extra antenna on the modem I'm getting one bar and moderate speed. Speedtest is attached. @4llerbuntu is yours similar to this? I will test for two days before deciding to fully deploy

Who else is using ntel in yaba?

speeds average that TBH.

But SPeedtest is not showing your real speeds. Its just testing the ISP servers connection to you.

If you want to know your real speeds, use testmy.net or fast.com

is this a MiFi or router?

if MiFi, what does the antenna look like? can i see a picture? where did you get it?

Testmy is showing 449kbps but I have only one bar. I'm using a router, I removed the antenna from the one on the right to the one of the left which ordinarily would not not need an antenna except for areas of low coverage like this one. Without the antenna it is no bar.
Later I will take it to the penthouse to retest

Always remember that ntel supports two bands; band 3 and 8. Band 8 has better in-building penetration and travels farther than band 3. I've tested this theory and I'm convinced that it is 100% practically so.

I tested this on my Huawei E5573s-606 and Huawei E5573s-320, and the result is same everywhere. The Huawei E5573s-320 always have better reception since it supports band 8.

When it comes to speed test, speedtest.net remains the better option, because it allows you to choose test servers. That way, you can choose the best, nearest server to you. In internet speedtest, the only way to determine your true speed, is to test it on a server nearest to you. Other speed test services default to servers in the U.S. and so on. You can never determine your true speed that way.

this is completely false.

i'm sure if you think about it a bit, you will see the error in your logic. i don't know why you guys on NL repeat this fallacy all the time

the sites you are going to visit, download from, stream from e.t.c, are not located around you, nor are they hosted on those servers. testing them will ALWAYS give you better figures than real life usage will give you.

this is like running 10 meters in your sitting room, timing it and then extrapolating to say you are faster than Bolt. you are only testing your connection to ISP.

under normal use, your internet traffic is YOU --------> ISP ---------> iNTERNATIONAL GATEWAY ------------> DESTINATION GATEWAY --------> DESTINATION SERVER

So how can you be testing your speed at just the 1st hop? funny thing is all the servers you test in nigeria are owned by ISP's. do you know how ridiculously easy it is to fool a speedtest?

that is why you will be doing speedtest of 25MBps, but downloading on IDM (multithreaded) for 1.5Mbps same connection, same time

if you are in doubt, change your speedtest.net server to one located abroad and see if your figures don't immediately halve.

Even those Local servers, test different ones and see how the results vary wildly. you can't compare mainone server to airtel's server for instance.....

PS: i learnt of testmy.net from an network engineer working for an ISP. that is what even they use to troubleshoot their service

What makes TestMy.net Different?

TestMy.net will provide you with real-world broadband speed test results in real-world conditions. We stand for the consumer not the ISP so TestMy does not inflate scores to make your provider look better than they are or host our test servers on the edge of ISP networks. Our speed test servers are configured to maintain quality of service for thousands of miles and are hosted in locations where many popular websites are hosted. We believe this is a more accurate representation of your true speed. Most Internet consumers don't think about the Internet service providers responsibility in peering beyond their own network. Many Internet providers send users to their own internally hosted connection test. When you surf the net, how often are you visiting a server within your hosts network?

When you normally buy something do you trust the seller to inspect it for you?
Then why would you trust your ISP to test your Internet...

If you notice the 'TiP' or Test in Progress data on all TestMy.net download test results you'll realize that numbers can easily be altered without lying. It is common practice among other speed tests to calculate the result based on incomplete information. Other speed tests showing the maximum speed or average speeds can be HIGHLY deceiving, even experienced technicians can be tricked. The fact is, if the information used to calculate the result is altered... the result is null. The final score presented to you by TestMy.net takes everything into account, from start to finish. Nothing is altered. The 'TiP' data is also shown so you can interpret the results the way you want. Remember, TestMy.net is a third party and has no vested interest in your test results. Your ISP can't say that.

Routing Distribution

TestMy.net has a network of servers. If you suspect a connection issue use "Servers" at the top of the page to test against other locations. This can help diagnose whether an issue is due to Internet routing or if it has to do with your home network and/or computer itself.

Ntel has been slow lately. It gets the job done though but not close to the speed of LTE. From Ikeja to Agege to OGba, the highest i ever get is 4mbps. Most of the times 2.5mbps. Anyone experiencing this?

Seems that's the average speed..

I noticed i don't get more than 599kb using browser to download..

But on torrent its very fast.. i got up to 5 MB/s on a particular torrent.. but on other 300k some 900k..

I think it also depends on the server you're downloading from...

Story of my life. its been like that for me for 2 months+ now...
Guess the honeymoon is over.

Its not even as fast as 3G on MTN and ETI anymore, its buffering Mobdro that works fine on MTN 3G, which means its probably time to seriously consider porting somewhere else.

Unlimited is very unattractive, if too slow to be useful. Otherwise we'd all be using Glo grin grin

My Verdict
This is the second day of testing NTEL against swift, the speed I'm getting on NTEL with one bar is similar to what I'm getting with swift on 2/3 bars. NTEL is 10k for unlimited/mo while we are on swift 125gb/mo for 25k.
All things remaining equal, I'm switching to NTEL once this swift subscription expires but will retain the swift sim for backup.
NTEL speed is okay for me, two systems even stream on youtube simultaneously while another is torrenting and it still doesn't affect others.

Heavier data users can demand more from NTEL which I'm sure will be much faster in areas with more bars

If it continues this way I might end up dumping it. i can get 20gb from mtn for N5,000 and 40gb for 10k with my double phone bonus. Mtn is a lot faster and have more coverage .

There was a time when average speed on ntel was ping of 14ms and 30mbps.

Now its 110ms. 3.4mbps is really, really slow for a 4g lte. Glo has stepped up their game and now average 20mbps.

If ntel does not improve...dumping them till further notice once ma plan expires. Seems complacency has started to set in.

Meanwhile, mtn 4g LTE. It now looks like ntel LTE is no longer relevant unless someone needs really heavy downloads.

At 3.4Mbps You get about 600kbps.. that's okay.. for an unlimited data.. at this speed im still Downloading about 10GB in few hours... Streaming is cool...

Neck breaking speed but wait till it gets congested. I can confirm ntel is congested with the rate they sell devices and the way people unlock modems these days to use ntel. Ntel will get better with competition but they are slow with expansion, quite a number of old mtel/nitel base stations are wasting away.

For me sha, I've succeeded in reducing my workplace monthly internet from 25k per month for 125gb to 10k per month for unlimited Internet

I also love that it is unlimited,. But I kinda find myself using mtn more even though it is capped.

First because ntel doesn't have a wide coverage

Secondly it is just not fast enough. For example last week PlayStation sent a 1.9gb update for the ps4, I was using ntel to download and to was taking forever to download.... Estimated time of about 80 hours. I switched to mtn and downloaded it under 40 minutes. Also the last time I updated my pc to windows 10 anniversary.... About 5gb it was taking ntel forever, mtn did it under 1 hr 30 mins. Ntel is only good for downloading smaller files and torrent files, or when u have the patience of waiting.

Yes ... The unlimited thing is the only edge... seems they did it intentionally...

If NTEL speed is like MTN.. then It is possible to do 500GB in less than 1 week and you are paying just 10k grin

In terms of Speed and coverage MTN got the edge..

My MTN 7GB got exhausted

On NTEl I have done over 40GB in less than 3 days with the 3k weekly subscription ...

22.82 GB in the last 12hours.. with average speed of 800Kb/s that is 4Mbps

I'm going back to mtn once this plan finishes....

December i'm definitely spending the 10k on MTN. AT least i'll watch football in peace

Thing is that because the service is so poor, it ends up crappy. yesternite i couldn't even watch 240kbps and 360 kbps streams football. and this is becoming a regular thing

Even if they were throttling to 600KBps it shouldn't struggle with that quality, after all i use 3G for those before now....

and this happens more or less all the time these days especially when its time for football

I turned on the meter on my MiFi this month and still haven't crossed 70Gb with just 1 week left..........

This unlimited talk is fast losing its appeal.

plus ntel is definitely throttling file sharing sites

i am presently downoading via uptobox [52kbps] ifichier 40kbps . on other networks i would be getting 700 to 1mpbs on these hosts
this is occuring even with vpn angry

not cool at all

For smart users u can get 40gb from mtn for 10k. Yes its not unlimited but unless u run an office where network is shared among many users, then 40gb should be enough for an average user at an incredibly fast speed. If u really care about unlimited then ntel is the best solution. Last month I disnt even use up to 30gb on my ntel, it was slow espeially for streaming and most of the times I found myself using mtn. I love streaming a lot, ntel sucks at streaming. I play ps4 online, ntel WILL NOT CONNECT TO PSN, so for me its no longet worth it paying that 10k when I can get 40gb with 10k from mtn.
