The National Cereals Research Institute (NCRI) Commenced a training course of how to use smartphones for farming among rice farmers in Nigeria. This program which is aimed at boosting rice production in Nigeria had 50 rice farmers extension officers in training.

This training didn't cover most locations in Nigeria, drawing few participants from Kogi, Nassarawa, Ebonyi, Niger, and Kebbi state (Riverside areas) where farmers focus mainly on rice production.

According to Agboire Samuel Acting Executive Director NCRI In an event in Lokoja; the gesture was part of the Federal Government's policy aimed at scaling rice production in the country to meet local and export needs.

Nice only if it is relevant. Why do we like deceiving ourselves in Africa and Nigeria in particular. We know that western world agricultural system has gotten to the level of using smartphone app to monitor their output, but must we copy all what they do. How will this smartphone app going to help a farmer still using cutlass and hoe to farm. I see this as a scheme for a corrupt politician to embezzle some money

What arrant nonsense.. which brand of smartphone is it.. if it faulty can it be repaired easily..? what is the use of the App..? to call minister of agric or grow crops..? what the farmers need is fertilizer, mechanized system of farming and a very friendly market to make the farmers be an international standard...

Who ever got the contract to bring such smartphone don hammer big time.. the app who developed it? abeg so many questions
