I think it's because of the recession and the steep devaluation of the Naira.
The VOs are probably keeping this in mind and are therefore much stricter than they've been before.
I also surmise that there are Nigerian students in Canada now having a difficult time paying school fees (due to the significant devaluation of the Naira over the last year and half), VOs are probably taking this into account (those guys are not idiots) and thus are less flexible on this issue.

Ok. We need to work and pray harder and smarter then. It is well and shall with praises. Amen!

Is it letter or affidavit of sponsorship? Who witness the affidavit? Follow what michv said by building the account statement of sponsor. Present ur birth certificate and ur brother birth certificate. Pay ur tuition fee.
xyoung:
Forgot to mention michV..you guys tried for me with your input here. Didn't use any agent. You guys and nairaland are my agent.

Submitted my present payslip and past payslip from previous companies

Why is finance a big issue lately?
Nigeria's dwindling economic situation.... Recession signals!!... The pressure on Naira is enormous and VOs are concerned about ability to continuously fund the entire period of studies.

@michV
Bros I needed to get an advice from you on my Application.
Submitted August 18
No medical yet.
Tuition payment due date 12 Dec.
Program starts January 9.
I am thinking of deferring my admission to the next session to buy more for my application.
Please kindly advise.
Thanks.

Cc folaroyal and the rest of the house
There are 2 ways to this; its either you just go ahead and defer your admission now or you wait till CIC requests another offer letter...
In any case... except your decision comes out before the 12th (payment due date) it may be wiser to defer now when you still can!
Cos waiting may cost you the hard earned admission if you don't address immediately.
Regards.

Travel history isn't a significant ground to refuse you visa.

As for fees....
https://www.dal.ca/admissions/money_matters/tuition_fees_costs/fee_calculator.html

There you go....calculate your fees based on your proposed program.

I trust you my guy!!! Thanks wink

If you want cheap universities, check out Memorial university, U of Saskatchewan, University of British Columbia, U of Victoria, and U of North brtish Columbia. See if they offer your interested course. Try apply to three schools at least.

If your GP is high and going for thesis course, you are likely to get scholarship if You apply very soon. You came at a close to scholarship deadline but can meet up with serious dedication, mentorship and prayers, but not panic. Shalom!

Thank you! Will look into it ASAP.

A four-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from a recognized college or university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study

A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (e.g. 60 credit units)

Proof of English language proficiency may be required for international applicants and for applicants whose first language is not English

The above is what i got from the University Of Saskatchewan.

I really someone help to analyse the second and third paragraph.

Also, i saw that the school fee was pitched at $1950/Term for international students.

Ideally, there are three terms so thats mulitplied by the above which should give about 5K plus.

Now, is this CAD? or USD? Whats the rate biko? undecided

the third point means that you need a minimum of 3.5/5.0 (70%) in ur last 2 yrs to make you admissible, i hope your cgpa is way above that

Forget abt the fourth point, uni of Saskatchewan recognizes Nigeria as an English-speaking nation so you don't have to waste your money on any TOEFL/IELTS test

Fees are in CAD, never mind that they use the conventional USD symbol, that was something i had a hard time getting accustomed to.
i think the current rate is 250NGN = 1CAD (not too certain)

Disclaimer: i am not a student in the above mentioned sch, i have not even applied to any sch, all answers are based on my research on the sch.

ENEMIESENEMY:
Hello Everyone,

I never intended to say this until my visa is out, but I see that this is application season and a lot of people are throwing apllications here and there to various universities in Canada.

So, I have decided to encourage a person or persons today. Just go for it!

I got admission into University of Ottawa for Masters in Information Studies with a THIRD CLASS, 2.17 CGPA precisely.

I have a B.Eng in Mining Engineering, and I think I was able to convince the VO well about the relationship in both courses, because in my first application that was refused, "Purpose of Visit" was not stated.

Anyway, to leave no grey area, I think I had a strong last two years, 4.0s and 3.0s, (because na now I wake up say, ogbeni, na third class you dey o, but it was too late sha) and I also have a Diploma certificate too.

My point is, if you have the money, just apply! Do your best, write a massive Statement of Purpose and pray oh yes, pray to Lord Jesus Christ. He did it for me, he'd do it for you.

My course is even co-op too, I never knew co-op was such a hot cake until I came here.

I hope I have encouraged more than one person.

This is your season to face God, that's who I put my trust in.

MODIFIED: I did not apply to two or more universities, I aplied to ONLY University of Ottawa, so if I wasn't given admission, I was toast. I won't be here typing this. See? Who could've done it except God? Who? God!

Wow, Thank you and God bless you for this encouragement. Many here really needed this. God's grace to all hopefuls, both admission and Trv hopefuls. Bless.

Greetings.
CGPA of 2.8....56%.....Hmmm quite low sha. But I will advice you search for schools where they can accept 50% CGPA and above. Ask the Graduate secretary of any department of the course you wanted and make inquiries if they will accept you and if they will, You will have to write a very strong and convincing SOP if required. About your job and the rest. work on it and for now get admission first. Your brother is cool for sponsorship. try get admission ok.

Please Bigger bosses in the house ...make una contribute.
Thanks man, I will work on the admission first.

It was affidavit of sponsorship from a magistrate court in Edo state. But instead of building my sponsor account, can't I build my account instead with all these money totalling 4 million and declare myself self sponsor? Cos I don't know where my brother will get extra millions despite his own family duties. I mean I intend to build up my salary account to 4million with deposits and withdrawal and leave closing balance of 4 million after which I will now pay part tuition

bro lemme categorically tell you why self-sponsor wouldn't work for your case as you have stated above.
Depending on how much you earn monthly,if you go for self sponsor and your study duration is 2yrs,you will have to show sufficient funds in total by ''statement of acct'' to cover your tuition, upkeep and maintenance, and transporting yourself to and fro canada for your ENTIRE duration. this is because if approved TRV,you ll no longer be working for 2yrs,so the VO requires to see the funds available in bank account for your 2yrs stay than the assumed at least 1yr since no income is coming to your account.Using a sponsor is better because the person has to show funds at least 1year to cover all expenses required since the person is an income earner. With the flows in the account, the VO assumes that the 2nd year of your program will be well taken care of. But if you are going for self-sponsor and your program is 1YR,make sure you have all the funds available for the entire 1YR. Depending on how much you earn monthly, you might have to explain further to the VO how you accumulated for example N7-8m within a short-while.

The issue of funds need critical thinking which is a major vital angle to place priority during visa application.
Another area is relationship with programs and also home ties/personal assets depending on the individual's profile

Osemigho:

The problem with PGC is not usually the cert but people go for programs not similar to their undergraduate course. I think your best shot is PGC(D) in your Bsc course and not any engineering/Technology course. Am not sure, but I think some universities can offer an a kind of PG program that you can upgrade to masters later. You have to email graduate advisors in multiple schools for answers. Don't panic, just email and wait for responses.

There's always a formal element in every inFORMALity. Think about your job well and find yours. Plus there's still time for payslip and employment letter if you are aiming for Fall 2017 or winter 2018 and you apply April or july. Think fast and act. You can still get a job or formalize the current one. Shalom!

For a Graduate of Mass Comm wanting to switch to Cybersecurity or Network security, Which would you advice then?

Pgc or Pgc(d), it's a bit confusing

Thats the problem. to me the VO always looked at your sponsor dependents. your brother has children and he will pay their school fees and other responsibility. they always look at that angle too. Him standing as your sponsor he needs big money to stand as sponsor. hope i make sense house?

Goodmorning all. TGIF and I wish all TRV hopeful success today. we must get good news before the end of today IJN ...Amen
