What the hell? angry If the definition of fafsa is posted in a very simple English on Google, then what the hell are you doing here asking dumb questions? Does the fafsa website you visited redirect you to US thread on nairaland? You better take your unruly behavior far from me before I start ripping into you. angry I can't even understand the crap you posted. And is this the kind of generation of student coming from Nigeria.

FYI: if a school referred you to fafsa and you're not so dumb, you would know that one of the fs stands for federal and as an international student you're not eligible for US government loans, funding or public assistance.

I Really don't understand why people refuse to accept simple english and yet keep talking as if all of this happens here in Nigeria. Read more on google about FAFSA but the school already know you are an international student before been referred there.

QUICK TIP!!!

This is for those who want to write strong letters of motivation. I figured a way that might work if executed properly. I wanted to transfer from my department into another department which to be honest, I don't think I'm very qualified for. What did I do? I scheduled an appointment with the department's Graduate Coordinator. I went to her office and I asked her questions about the department. I asked stuff like how ranked the department is in the US, what the course is really like especially the courses students are mostly scared to take, placement of recent graduates and what they went on to do with their lives, I asked if they admitted students with backgrounds from totally different disciplines and the chance of getting in (and if so, what are they really considering from such students), what the department was moving towards in terms of development, etc. It was a trap cheesy She told me everything about the department, what they're looking for, was indirectly bragging about how this and that, etc. Lobatan.

I went back home, and composed a letter of motivation. I wrote about myself in a way that plugged into everything that was going on in that department. I personalized everything she told me and made it look like that's what I'm really looking for. Don't want to go into much details, but I really wrote it in a way that reflected all she told me during our meeting. Even my future plans mirrored what most of their recent graduates went on to do. I picked particular interest in that course she said many people didn't like haha cheesy I submitted my application on Monday, Tuesday afternoon, they had already made a decision and she asked for another appointment to come so she'd show me around again and get me more familiar with the department. Na my $255 Paco Rabanne perfume work that one, She wan see baba again cheesy

Now, how to execute this plan. I think you should call the grad coordinator of the department you want to gain admission into. If possible, schedule an appointment via email and let it be a convenient time for them to talk. If you can't call, email could work too. Have a list of questions to ask. The point is to get them to tell you about the department, about the students already in the department, what they're really looking for, what students have gone on to do with their lives after school, etc. Get them to talk, talk, talk. After the conversation, carry your fingers and write a letter that's going to plug into the scope.

Don't know if this makes any sense, I rushed it. Apologies for any typos and incoherence. Cold wan finish my fingers. it's 24F/-4C here. Bye.

First, let me tell you that you are one of the very few and lucky F-1 students in America. In case you don't know, there are thousands of people who have fallen out of status right from the first day they came in to America. You have a cashier's job that is putting food on the table and you are complaining? You are able to save $8k within 6 months from your job and you don't count yourself lucky? See, I am not one to sugar coat things for you. I don't know who your friends are but if you have one, they should tell you that you are balling? How many people in America can save up to $2000 in a year? If you have anyone telling you that you are useless in America, please delete that person's contact from your phone and block him or her for life.

That being said, you are not the first and you won't be the last to drop from school - that is not the end of life. You asked for help in writing a reinstatement letter from NL and didn't find help and you decided not to pursue it because of indecision and wrong advices? Who are those advisers? Mind sharing what they advised you to do? It appears to me that you caused this yourself.

For you to be able to compose on Nairaland, I put it to you that you can still think and know what is going on with your life. The issue with you is anxiety and fear of the unknown. Learn to control yourself and take your mind off it. I also see that you have refused to tell us your relationship with your 4 siblings in America, what have they done to help? Are they all tired of you? They all told you to go back to Nigeria? Anyway, here are the options you have presently;

- Do everything within your power to keep your present job

- Go and marry a U.S citizen who you truly love and start a family

- Wait for your pending immigration filings to be approved

Good luck

@Ojap is it advisable to apply for reinstatement after being out of status since January.

do u have admission already to the CC that what is key. u should have by now ..if yes ....also time frame hard to predict but factor a slower response time due to d holiday and if u have crossed POE now then u should start it asap

It been answered before ...... Let me copy and paste my previous response . U guys read previous post oooo

Yes you can transfer after getting the visa to another school (provided you have admission offcourse) . Best to start it after you cross POE

The process usually is that you notify the current school's international office of your intention to transfer. The current school adviser will then have to transfer your sevis record to the New School with a transfer out date given. Until that transfer is done then new school cannot issue you a new I-20 (F-1 status).

You would be expected to fill out a new i-20 request form in the new school and once transfer is done and you get the new i20 then off you go ....meaning its transfer completed

The key to transfer is that your current school should release your sevis to the new school…If they don’t for whatever reason then hummmm you have a problem . If they do then, it is not complicated process.... ... for more info see link

https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/instructions-for-transferring-to-another-school-as-an-f-1-student

Thank you so much for your response. Please how does one report to the school without having to be physically present in the school? Will sending a mail,or placing a call across actually suffice? Or is there any other special requirement? Thanks

@Ojap is it advisable to apply for reinstatement after being out of status since January.

Reinstatement Procedure https://iss.washington.edu/procedures/reinstatement-reentry

When requesting reinstatement, you must establish to the satisfaction of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that you:
• Have not been out of status more than 5 months at the time of filing the request for reinstatement (or demonstrate that the failure to file within the 5-month period was the result of exceptional circumstances and that you filed for reinstatement as soon as possible under these circumstances).
• Do not have a record of repeated or willful violations of immigration regulations.
• Are currently pursuing, or intending to pursue, a full course of study in the immediate future at the school which issued the Form I-20.
• Have not engaged in unauthorized employment.
• Are not deportable on any ground other than overstaying or failing to maintain status.

You must also establish that:
• The violation of status resulted from circumstances beyond your control. Such circumstances might include serious injury or illness, a natural disaster, or inadvertence, oversight, or neglect on the part of your ISS adviser, but do not include instances where a pattern of repeated violations or a willful failure on your part resulted in the need for reinstatement.

or
• The violation relates to a reduction in your course load that would have been within the international student adviser's authority to authorize, and that failure to approve reinstatement would result in extreme hardship to you.

If USCIS approves the reinstatement request, the adjudicating officer will endorse your I-20 to indicate that you have been reinstated and will return the I-20 to you. If USCIS does not approve the reinstatement request, you may not appeal the decision and need to prepare to leave the U.S. immediately.

**************************https://iss.washington.edu/procedures/reinstatement-reentry**************************************

In your case, you may be able to demonstrate that the failure to file within the 5-month period was the result of exceptional circumstances (e.g your mental issues if documented, USCIS will even be happy you didn't go to their schools and start shooting people) and that you filed for reinstatement as soon as possible under these circumstances (e.g when you are now stable and can think straight). It's all about packaging, you just have to make sure you have verifiable documents or doctor's report stating this.

POE hardly ask you for receipt ...they usually just ask you why are you here. beside if the POE officer ask for receipt. just say you are still processing the payment transfer and you will do so before the school deadline
