Hello All, I am a silent reader on this thread and I need your help on this Canada birthing visa application. Can I apply with my husband for visa solely for the purpose of birthing or I should apply alone? I was able to get some point from the pages av read so far but i still need a response to my question from the gurus in the house.
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by ifynkem(f): 12:56pm On Dec 18, 2016
@ Hotstepper, Pls how can I reach you? I need to get some information from you. I have read through the thread and seen how you helped a lot of people. Thanks a lot. Pls I will like if you can drop me your email address. I am pregnant and plan birthing in Canada. However I don't know how to go about it as I do not know anyone who has personally gone this route. It's mainly US I have information about. BTW: I already have my visa. Please dear, get back to me. Thanks a lot.

Well you have to contact one of the drs that was mentioned there nd find a place to stay.

Canada is not as open as US in child birth tourism where u habe apartments etc so u have soke work to do since u dont know anyone.

-Free public healthcare
-Better gun control law (less violent crimes)
-No double taxation. This means that the child (when they become an adult) does not get to pay tax to the Canadian government if they don't reside in Canada.
-Lower tuition for home college students.

Thanks for your reply.
1. Please what do you think about delivery fee in Toronto versus Alberta? Which is cheaper in general terms? I know for instance Houston offers cheaper hospitals compare to some other states in the US. For Canada, What is it like? And is there any advantage of one over the other?
2. Also during my visa application i stated tourism, should I write the embassy now indicating I intend to birth with the visa or just state my purpose at POE? Pls tell me what you think.

Thanks again as I await your response.

Mel01, if you are due by December, you should go for paper application, perhaps it may be fast enough for processing. You don't need an invitation, a tourist visa will suffice. While filling your application, let it be known that you will be seeking medical services while in Canada and you back your choice up with letter and reasons why you decide to want your baby there, as against Nigeria and the USA, where you had your first. You can also seek a reference letter from your hospital/doctor in Nigeria.
I hope you have your US visa still, in case Canada delays or doesnt approve of it, you have another alternative to fall back on.

Good day RedReact, please I will like your honest opinion on this. I already have my visa but it was obtained on the purpose of tourism only. Should I write the embassy now stating that I want to have my baby in Canada and why or should I just state that at POE? Pls tell me what you think

Thank you @RedReact. My application was online; hence, it was Accra immigration that liaised with me. Do you think that matters? I was thinking the mail should be addressed to the canada immigration office directly. My thoughts though....not sure.

Hello IBK354, I am in similar situation as you. I have a visitor visa but now want to use it for birthing purpose. I will like to know if you contacted the embassy and what their reply was. Pls do well to reply. Thanks a lot.

Someone applied for the sole purpose of birthing and was granted, so you can. However, I think you should apply alone while the other things you would need would be sent in by hubby from Nigeria.

It doesn't matter. My family friend was already preggy when she applied but she did online application and there was nowhere they asked if she's preggy or not so she didn't indicate. She wasn't called for interview either and was given 4 yrs visa.

Now to the info everyone is itching to hear this is not MHIS Cuz Canadian system is different since our health care is free. Lemme explain.

So for her,

1. Dr fee was 750
2. Hospital was 2500 per day and she stayed just a day nd it's CS Ooo
3. Anesthesia..640

Total is 3890 CAD

The baby paid nothing because immediately he was born, he's Canadian so his health card which was given immediately at the hospital made it free. All the specialist that came to check him like eye, hearing etc was free. So this is the part that in US that adds up cuz baby have to pay.

Hotstepper hello,

Please i sent an e-mail to you.

Do have a great day.

"@Catalona,

Please can you provide the details of the doctor you used?

I would really appreciate this.

thanks.

The birth was not in Toronto, it was in a different city still in Ontario though. We have few ob/gyn in my church, so I think people coming to give birth here just register with them. You could check if there are any Nigerian ob/gyn in T.O willing to take on new patients.
Regarding the cost, it would depend on the method of delivery and how many days you spend. You typically spend 2 nights after delivery, but it might last longer if there are any complications. I could make some research on the specific costs. For the hospital, it is usually the hospital that your ob/gyn practices.
Hope I have been of help.
pls can i get the contact of any good ob/gyn in your area pls?

Re: Giving Birth In Canada by KaptainAfrika: 9:29pm On Jan 07, 2017
Canadian visa applications take:
- 120 days approx
- 4 months approx
- 16 weeks approx
- by the time your visa is out, you would probably be 25+16=41 weeks
- how about applying after you've had this child instead?
- then you can apply with your newborn, for a tourist visa, travel to canada and then later inform the embassy, that you wish to have
your baby in Canada?.

Cheers!

Am a silent reader of this forum and i will like to thank everybody for the useful tips and information it does help because anytime i want to travel aboard and need apply visa i do come to nairaland and read all the information from page to page and this gives added advantage..from my uk visa ,to europe visa ,to usa visa .... most tips and pattern were gotten from here
December 2015 , Canada and usa signed a share information Implementing Arrangement between the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency, and the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security of the United States concerning Biographic Visa and Immigration Information Sharing ) but that does not means you will be rejected because usa refuse you visa so far your usa visa refuse is not based on threats to public security and you are not inadmissible to Canada but just be honest with your intentions. you can apply explaining with a good backup letter why you want to give birth in Canada ,you can afford it with prove, bank account for last six month and your ties like letter from job ,property and others proof to your home country, with your travel experience attached because my family applied and got the visa to our surprise in 14 working days but we had a valid usa visa maybe that an added advantage ..so the 4 month or 120 days is not in all situation ,i wish you all the best ..you can give it a try just be open and honest with your intentions
3 major point
***Do applicants have sufficient funds?
****Will they leave Canada at the end of their period of authorized stay?
***Are they admissible?

but why was your usa visa refused ,most renewal is via drop box ,or you were invited for interview

You can still get citizenship by birth in both countries. However, Canada is considering changing the law because of Chinese mostly, Even if they do debate it in congress, It would take years before it becomes law.

We had our first in Toronto and the second in Texas. Go with Canada.

If your child is born premature and requires intensive care in america, you will go bankrupt. Canada however automatically covers its citizens... So you only pay for your wife.

Also, Canada is more civilised. people are super nice and when the child grows, they will not be required to pay taxes unless they reside in Canada. whereas, the Yanks will still take their tax even if you live in the moon.

Now to the meat:

The way it works in North america, is you find a doctor first or a hospital can recommend affiliated doctors but you need to have a doctor before hospitals will sign u up. doctors usually prefer to see patients and know their history early before the 32nd week of pregnancy ~ so go early to avoid rejections.

average cost of doctor
Toronto $2000
Texas $3000

average cost of hospital
Toronto $4000 natural birth
Texas $5000 natural birth, $7000 C section

If C section budget another $1500 for anaesthesiologist

If complication and baby is removed as a premature budget $2000 a day for intensive care in US and free in Canada. Baby can be there for months... luckily, ours stayed only 6 days in Texas... was not funny on the wallet.

The hospital will try to push Medicaid on you...if you touch american insurance, hospital is happy...they bill insurance company more but you will never get a US visa again. You are not qualified for this as a non resident...beware.

cost of living is similar

rent $1600 per month unfurnished for short lease 2 bedroom

2500 a month furnished

however, toronto has public transport so you can take the bus or subway to most places. america you drive or taxi...thats a fortune right there.

We've done both... If you have the choice, go with Canada. We regretted not returning to Canada for our second.

Can you provide hospotals details and contact in canada
