New Year is not about changing the Dates but Direction;
It's not about changing the Calendar but Commitment;
It's not about changing the Actions but Attitude;
It's not about changing the Fruit but Faith, Force and Focus!

May this new year bring remarkable blessings to us all.

The wealth of information on this thread is to say the least priceless. I doubt if anything has been said about the financial capacity required for graduate school. It is in this vane, I implore those over there to please comment on how you all cope. It's true funding does a lot to upset tuition and some minor expenses for those who have access to monthly stipends. But in all, how much on the average would be sufficient for life in the US every month without constituting a nuisance over there- even with a well funded program?
I don't know much about others, but I believe I do not only speak for myself if I say that I've always wondered about what the financial implications on my sponsor over here in Nigeria will be.
I'd like for someone to please address this issues. And if it has been addressed before, then I may have missed it out of oversight; in which case I plead to be appropriately directed.

It depends on the state where the university is located. So, for a low paying state, well, on the average, you spend on housING $250-300per person off campus with shared apartment (2 bedroom apartment may cost $500-750 depending on location)and utilities of $100,

then $420-480 on campus, utilities included.

$100-180 /month on food.

Those are the basics. You spend roughly between $500-750 monthly. ..talk of big states like dem texas, new York etc just multiply the results of low paying states by two or three. grin

Hello, it depends on the school, your stipend, city and your spending habit.
With full funding here in Cookeville, TN, you can save up to $500/month if you cook. Accommodation is cheap about $300/month at most.
My school allowed us to purchase health insurance outside so I paid like $140 last semester, note this also depends on the school.
With $700/month, I am comfortable here
