please i wish to know if it is possible to apply for a us student visa while in Nigeria or after getting to us.I have been given admission to a university in the us.though i have been expecting the admission before now since early last year

I believe it's far better to apply in Nigeria for your visa

you won't even be allowed to leave the Nigerian airport without a visa so, apply for one asap

To others who may be interested... a few rules of thumb to follow:

1. Just because it says so on the USCIS website that you "may" (note the operative word) does not mean you should. Always remember, immigration decisions you take today have consequences in future.

2. Applications to adjust status from B1 to F1, within 30-60 days of entering the US on a B1 visa are generally rejected by the USCIS. Early applications such as this are always considered "preconcieved intent", unless you specifically indicated at your B1 interview that you would like to consider the option of adjusting status to F1 during your trip.

3. If you applied for a B1 at the interview and also mentioned the option of adjusting to an F1, the VO will also adjudicate your eligibility for an F1 visa at that time and note "prospective student" on your visa.

4. Remember, should your attempt to adjust to F1 in the US be turned down, your chances of getting an F1 or B1 visa in your home country diminishes since an attempt to circumvent immigration rules will already be noted on your record.

5. The opportunity to adjust from B1 to F1 was severely restricted after 9-11, so this is not a trivial matter.

6. As you may be aware when it comes to US law, "may" does not mean " you should".

Thanks.
You seem quite knowledgeable in this. In as much as having a valid b1/B2 visa increases chances of getting the F1, would it get cancelled if somehow, the F1 is denied. I've Heard of a few peeps that had their Valid visit visas cancelled when they applied for F1 and got denied. I don't have the details tho. Just the outcome.
In my opinion, visa applications are treated differently and one shouldn't affect the other
Could you please shed more light on this?
I understand the implications of not getting stamped into the country on an F1 visa, especially when one applies for OPT. My only concern is the cancellation of the B1/B2 of something goes wrong. Is it true ? I am not being pessimistic tho.
Just need answers.

Thanks

Despite the fact that several people have stated here to you that the information in bold is wrong.... F1 denied does not cancel b1b2 .... , you are still repeating that statement again here ......so at what point would u believe then ? ?

OK man thanks.

If the person has overstayed on the b1b2 or broken the terms of that visa....then thats a different conversation and yes i can see the possibility of the b1b2 cancelled

If no terms have been broken f1 outcome should not affect exisiting b1b2 .

Thanks for your kind response. Can you suggest schools?

Texas A&M college station competitive I think fees is less than $16k; LSU Competitive but fees around $16k per yr, Uni of Kansas but you will need WES evaluation here, check Oklahoma state too dont know the fees but they should have funding; generally check southern schools they have funding and fees are cheaper I think. You can check NMSU, Arkansas, North dakota too.

Hello
Please I need y all advices here. The problem is I graduated from High School In 2012. Started my undergraduate studies in 2013. I voluntarily withdrew from University in 2015 due to family emergency. I have applied to a school in the US and I have been accepted for Fall 2017. Please when asked what have you being doing since high school, is it advisable to bring up my previous undergraduate studies and say I withdrew due to family emergency or I shouldn't even bother to say anything regarding it. Looking forward to your thoughts
Thanks

Does anyone know if Cleveland state university fund incoming students?
Though I've asked before, I really didn't get a response I could work with. I'm about to put in my application and I'll like to know about their funding so I wouldn't regret the choice. And by the way, I have asked the grad coordinator about their funding but he was evasive.

Your best option is always to be truthful.
There is nothing wrong with your reason, and you should mention it.

Just make sure that your finances and ties to home are good and give them no reason to look further at you.

If the grad. cord was that should give you all the pointer you need. Otherwise connect with a student in your prospective department on Linkedin and get undiluted info. or contact professors you will like to work with, if they have RA positions to fund you.

MY TRAVEL TRANSCRIPT

GLORY TO GOD, THANKS TO MAN...

well I got to Lagos local airport to get on a plane to abuja as it is damn too costly to go from Lagos .....I bought my ticket from AIRPEƀCE,the stupid and arrogant cashier lady said the plane will take off by 7pm but we left Lagos @ 8pm,we finally got to abuja,I'm not even sure of the time we got there .......so I wen5 to claim my luggage...it took like for ever to get my bag.....we are very slow at doing things in nija....after that went to Turkish airline to get my bag PASS....we were not much there....so it was fast.....after that went to emigration .....did all the stuff I was suppose to do...they were really nice people....after all this I went to the waiting room at 11-15 we were checked in and few minutes after we were on our way to get on board......
I had a stop over at Istanbul....I think 6 hours.....I don't understand their WiFi there so it took time to connect with my families .... I met few Nigerians there ......they were nice though....at 2 pm .Turkey time we were called to be checked in,......those guys were really fast about it......so we got on board by 3pm.....few minutes Later we were air born ....
I love that feeling when a plane about to take off...it as if ones brain is about to be detached ......minutes later the jai hostel came with some Irritating foods .....(MY ADVICE MAKE SURE YOU BUY YOUR OWN FOOD B4 YOU GET ABOARD) the food was really irritating just ate the leaf like goat and drank the chocolate and juice ....although I got to see all the latest movies ... ..hours later we got to new York it was beautiful see newYork from the sky...it beautiful .....our plane landed and we went straight to POE ....OMO SEE AS PEOPLE PLENTY.....THW SECURITY DIRECTED MW TO AN OLD MAN ALTHOUGH THE MAN IS SLOW HE IA VERY NICE .......
P.O.E:ARE YOU RETURNING
ME:NO... I'M JUST STARTING SIR....
P.O.E:SO YOU GOING TO CHICAGO
ME:YES SIR
P.O..E: I'M NOT SURE A PLANE IS STILL AVAILABLE TO GET TO CHICAGO...
P.O.E:WHAT FOOD DIS YOU BRING
ME:I BROUGHT BEANS SIR
P.O E: IS IT RAW OR COOKED.
ME:RAW SIR
P.O E:OK,IF YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO TAKE IT IN YOUR LUCK AND IF NOT YOU HAVW TO DROP IT...
ME:OK SIR
HE STAMPED MY PASSPORT AND I WEN TO GET MY LUGAGE....I GOT TO ANOTHER SECURITY CHECK POINT...I TOLD HIM I HAD RAW BEANS AND HE SAID OK ....NASO I COmmot ooo...I took a taxi to la guardian airport cause my ticket was booked online so I just went with a confirmation code....then a lad helped print my pass through the computer there I took a shuttle to where I'll board my plane I'll scheduled for 10 but the lady at the check in asked if wanted to go by 8 i said yes ...finally got aboard and in hours we were at BOSTON I HAD LIKE 4 HOURS STOP OVER...THE WHOLE PLACE JUST DAY SMELL COFFEE I...ME SELF FOLLOW buy coffee...I put a lot of milk in it then I start touring the airport ...
I was lost in the airport for like 2houra cause the whole place look dsame ...I asked a security and he helped me find my way .. I then was able to use the Wi-Fi there .....so i got to connect with families ...
by 2-45 we were checked in and we got aboard
