Hello everyone

Happy New Year. Hope everyone is doing well. I have few thingw to say

1. If you decide to come to Canada to have your baby, have an open mind.

2. Budget over whatever u read here or people have told you as each case diff.

3. If you are going to be needing accomodation, its not cheap in this part of the world.

4. You will porbably be using taxi for ur appointment so budget that as well esp if you are coming in winter .

Good luck

Do u know anyone in alberta?

Thanks for your reply.
1. Please what do you think about delivery fee in Toronto versus Alberta? Which is cheaper in general terms? I know for instance Houston offers cheaper hospitals compare to some other states in the US. For Canada, What is it like? And is there any advantage of one over the other?
2. Also during my visa application i stated tourism, should I write the embassy now indicating I intend to birth with the visa or just state my purpose at POE? Pls tell me what you think.

Thanks again as I await your response. [/quote]

For me that the whole Medicals will be free / refundable with my insurance it's probably still cheaper than the Us.

I guess when I'm ready will look at the other costs such as accommodation and processing of documents to decide if it's worth it

This whole no formula wave is also hitting the USA. At oakbend on my second missionary journey ( so unlike the first) they also refused to give formula, refused to keep the baby at the nursery.
Same happened with a friend that used memorial Hermann too
Not sure what

Good morning all,

Please which is the preferable/reliable method of payment of hospital and doctor's bills in Canada? Cash or Card? Also, which Nigerian bank card works better in Canada or do I have to open an account when I get there?

I noticed to apply for birth certificate online, you will need to pay through card and possibly there are other payments that would require using card. Please your experienced advise will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello All,

Trust all members are fine.

Please I need quick clarification in respect of baby's documents when born in Canada. Based on what I have read so far, mothers process the following documents for their babies when born i.e.

*Birth certificate
*Canadian passport and lastly,
*Nigerian Passport/Emergency Travel document.

My question, can I limit my baby's documents to these two? i.e. processing of birth certificate and Nigerian Passport/Emergency Travel document while i process the Canadian passport for baby once I get back to Nigeria via the Consulate Office in VI?

Mothers who have been previously opportune to birth and process documents for babies should please respond on their view

@ Hotstepper, kindly respond on your view as well. This question has never been raised in the group.

Thanks.

Here is a wonderful Idea, if you have been successful in your visa application and you are asking for help, please quote your transcript when asking for help, or tips you used when you applied. And if you haven't posted your transcript or your tips, please do that, before asking for help.

Lets do MMM for help - PH and GH. grin

where PH - Provide Help and GH - Give Help

Why is she waiting aprik to come? She needs to be in the country for 3 months before she can have access to health card. U meab she didnt even attend university in Canada?

Her delivery will be free with the health cars and other things associated with it like seeing the dr

If she does not have that health card, she will have to pay and be refunded back when she has her health card.

eGarage:
Hello House.

ATTENTION HOTSTEPPER

I have painstakingly read all but cant seem to find a good response to my own questions. Permit me to ask a few.

1. My Wife has a Canadian passport, but have been living in Nigeria all her life (So no tax payment so far). How do we go about getting her Health Card so she can have access to free health care when she returns for delivery.

2. What part of Canada is best for her delivery? Considering living cost and ease of movement. What is the estimated hospital bill too since she' a Citizen?

3. Baby is expected to arrive in August but we planned she travels first in April for necessary documentations. Would you recommend our decision?

NOTE: We have quite a number of Friends living in Canada already but we are not sure we want to stay with anyone for the birth processes.

Would await your response.

Thanks

Dear Marion123 and iphiechuks please give us update as well.

Dear all,

My wife and I are about to apply for a TRV but do not know what to indicate in "the purpose of my visit" graph in the online questionnaire (see 1st attached file)? When filled in the online questionnaire we indicated the purpose as other and not tourism. Now when I upload documents via online application "the letter of invitation" file is required and w/o it doesn't allow to proceed to payment of the visa fee (see attached pic 2).

What shall we do in this case? We have no one in Canada to give us a letter of invitation, doctors also refused to give the letter and asked not to indicate them as a visiting place. Please advise.

I have just figured out that when I indicate my purpose of visit in the questionnaire as a tourism, the letter of invitation file becomes not required anymore in the online application. Instead a "purpose of travel - other" file attachment is available for uploading and it is possible to attach air tickets, hotel bookings, appointment with doctors (see attached pics 3 and 4).

So my second question what do you choose in the questionnaire as your purpose "other" or "tourism"?

I think that a medical visit for birth giving is also a tourism, i.e. medical tourism and we do not intend to stay in Canada. Thus, I can choose a tourism option in the questionnaire but in the form indicate purpose other as a medical tourism, right? what do you think? on the other point not connected with visa application I think that We give a present to Canada in the form of our baby who will be contributing to Canada's economy in the future when grown up while not spending taxpayers' money since the baby will be growing in the home country. Taking into account that Canada needs workforce for its economy growing.

Thanks

"the purpose of my visit" Best is to choose tourism and back it up with a letter that your requested a temporary resident visa for child birth and also during this period you will visit some places Of interest AND explain why you have no invitation letter ,and any arrangement you have made and the information you have gathered from the doctor about cost and your projected cost and the available fund....upload all this document to Letter of Explanation section even if you have a letter from your Nigerian doctor ,stage of pregnancy and why Canada and not Nigeria
if you have no invitation letter then you can use hotel reservation, it not compulsory you have to request invitation letter from anybody ...and most importantly ynlike usa it very rare for Canada doctor or hospital would email with a new patient. But you can make a spreadsheet of your projected expenditure

Below what is stated on most hospital website

(We are also cognizant of how we communicate with our patients. Due to the insecure nature of e-mail, we do not use email as a means of communication with the public or patients:

regarding questions or issues of a medical nature;
to establish physician/patient relationships;
to book or cancel appointments;
for inquiries regarding fees, services or similar matters.
We will not respond to email communications regarding such matters. If you wish to contact us regarding medical questions or issues or with regard to appointments, accounts or other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone)

key note in your letter

1) Why Canada and not Nigeria

2) costs of childbirth

3) Your available fund AND asset with proof

4)Your travel history

and please note Giving birth in Canada does not represent a violation of any terms or conditions which may be applied to a temporary resident. Thus, there is no provision in IRPA to refuse a TRV(tourist visa) solely on the basis of the intent of the applicant to give birth in Canada.

If your wife is a Canadian citizen she can try calgary in the province of Alberta, every PR and citizen is covered under their health care as soon as they arrive and register.

Hi Virt,

can you please advise which two places you indicated in the application that you are going to visit in Canada?

and thanks for your detailed answers

Virt:
My "purpose of travel" letter had a lot of personal details, but there is a guide on what should be on the letter on the CIC website. The following points can also help though:

EVERYTHING I SAID WAS TRUE and I provided documentary evidence for all my claims where necessary. I guess my purpose of travel was persuasive, so try and make yours persuasive but not beggary.

I hope this helps.

Hi All,

My question relates to birth documents for babies.

In applying for emergency travel document, can the application be made online, by post or by physical submission at the Nigerian High commission office in Ottawa? Please advice. The information I read online is not so detailed as it has not specified how the application can be submitted.

Please see below:

Requirement for Persons under the Age of 18 OR Minors

Copy of child’s birth certificate
Letter of Consent jointly signed by child's both parents must be typed
Photocopies of the parents’ passports data page. One of the passport data pages must be a Nigerian Passport.
Additional documents for single parents (proof of custody of the child/children)
Child's current two passport-size photographs preferably with white background
Non-refundable processing fee of hundred dollars ($100) in money order payable to the Nigeria High Commission Ottawa.
Copy of itinerary or airline ticket
Self-Addressed return envelope (Canada priority or Express post Courier Envelope Only
NOTE: The Travel Document is valid for 30 days only and cannot be used to return to Canada (one way journey).

For inquiries please call (613) 236-0006 (Direct), 613 236 0521 ext: 241 and ext: 243 Email: oru@nigeriahcottawa.ca

Thanks.
