I feel for you bro, but I think there should be another option, if you don't wanna send money to a family member that would squander your hard earned money...

How do you embark on a building project here in Nigeria while you are away Is there any other way you could build a house here without involving snakes in your family

I need answers pls

Yes. There are registered companies that are licensed building contractors. You can also take your cash and buy a house outright.

I join him to say amen, only few families have judiciously used money sent from abroad for the purpose it was sent, I know so many cases like that, one came home some years back unexpectedly only to find out her parents only maintained one flat and moved in, where as she sent money for the completion of four flat, the lady didn't even make a fuss, she evicted her family and sold the house and came back two years later without telling her people to build her house, some family members can be so devilish and wicked, although I have seen families that are different and can be trusted but they are few

this happened to my cousin who had been abroad for many years, he had been to jail and done a lot of things whilst channeling all his money to his mother and brother in Nigeria so they could build houses and maybe a hotel for him. Dude got deported and to his utter shock, his family had squandered his money without anything to show for it. It was a very sad story, after serving his time in jail only to return home to nothing, according to him, his people used to send him pictures of buildings they told him was his own.

Wise up diaspora folks, open a bank account and save your money directly! Before you know it, your few nairas will become millions. Then come home and buy your property at your convenience! That way, the stories that touch will be minimal.

Exactly what my husband did. Just send your money straight into your account, come home and buy your properties yourself...raise it to the level you can anytime you visit home.

Some folks living abroad duped some people to get to where they are, forgetting that their actions would one day come around undecided

or

giving the impression that they are doing well over there, why won't relatives down here swindle them?

If anyone duped people before, then they deserve to be duped too.
I know of some (very few) who actually duped to travel abroad and one of them is not even alive anymore.

But the vast majority have never duped anyone to get abroad. That is a fact. These are simply victims.

As for giving the impression that they are doing well abroad, how does that make it right to dupe them? So if your neighbour or brother is doing well, you can simply dupe him if you get the chance to, and feel it is the right thing to do? shocked shocked That's a criminal mentality.

Now, if a relative lives abroad and works hard and helps out whenever he is asked to. Not because he has too much, but because he empathises with those he left at home, how does that give the impression that he's doing well abroad. Most Western countries have a social welfare system in place that greatly reduces the number of the very poor (who cannot afford food or shelter). Living abroad gives you a better sense of social justice &, empathy & equity. Being moved to help those at home is NOT pretending (giving the impression) to be doing well abroad.

In the same way you claim they pretend to be doing well abroad, others also ask that when they refuse to assist relatives at home, why won't relative dupe them? It seems you just cannot please some people.

In my decades of personal experience and of observing this trend, I came to the conclusion that:

(1) Ignorance about life abroad among most home-based Nigerians is staggering. And most are unwilling to learn or believe when you even tell them the truth. Even some who go abroad on holiday still do not get it.
(2) Some family members and friends are simply greedy. Others suffer from poverty mentality.
(3) The corrupt disposition that affects all facets of Nigerian life is same within families. Many criminally want to reap where they did not sow.
(4) Many family members have a sense of entitlement to your money.

I fully understand where this guy is coming from. Having lived most of my life abroad, I have seen and heard the craziest things. The most amazing was actually a father forging documents for his son to be sending money. The evil thing is the father of the guy had actually kicked out the guys mother years back to marry his secretary shocked Yet still the son was obedient. He was even sending money for the dads upkeep and his extended family. When he found out about the forged docs ( imagine 419ing your own blood, nigerians we hail thee) the guy cut of ties with the dad, who I regard as an ingrate.

On the other side though, those abroad should stopping forming/showing off to family back home which encourages this behavior. Sending pics of cars you dont own stating its one of your fleet, as well as bragging about how well off you have it whereas you are doing 3 jobs to survive is not helping the matter. This gives ppl back home the impression you have it way too easy.

This is not necessarily true. Go through fb profiles of most Nigerians in Nigeria. You will see that most pose for pictures at Shoprite, beside fine buildings and cars, in fine sitting rooms they do not own & other beautiful places. Only for them to say when chatting "bros, I dey roast o, wetin dey for me na? shocked shocked
Taking pics in fine places abroad does not equate to showing off. Everyone, Africans or whites take pics in beautiful places.

Even if the relatives abroad are actually doing well (I know many doing very well), it still gives nobody the right to dupe them.

True talk. I intend sending money soon for building project but can't even trust no one yet.
There are still good Nigerian bros
If you feel your family cannot be trusted then take an outsider.
Always have a written agreement
Send money in batch eg foundation, block work, roofing
Get two opposing tribe to checkmate each other
Etc....

The guy should stop sending money to his relatives and save himself from stress, curses don't work, rather, he should contract professionals back home who will be legally, ethically and professionally bound to execute his project satisfactorily.

My brother in-law complete his building in Lagos without involving any family member. He hired one project supervisor/engineer who did the job but he flew in at least twice or so to check the progress and thankfully it was a success story.

It's best to go home and build. Trust brother? No, he will use it for bride price. Trust sister? No, she will form on Instagram. Not even mummy? Ni, She will say it's her portion for bringing you up to live abroad. Make the sacrifice and go home to prevent breaking the family over money matters.

Its really a heartless thing to do and that is why we at Galaxy Properties are here to make sure no shylock relative defrauds you. You make every arrangement with us, while you invite them to come and check it out and give you situation report of what is on ground. In such a scenario, each party vets one another while you as the buyer will interface with us(agent), the (seller) and also your folks who acts as your representatives. Its almost impossible to deal directly with folks at home without being shortchanged in one way or the other.

Amen to his Prayer..

Avoid relatives, locate established building companies to build houses for you instead of relations who might squander the money and jeopardize your life when you return to demand accountability...

How can you say its not necessarily true whereas I see this quite frequently. It may be that YOU have not come across it as much as I have. Also not I mentioned specially cars and making claims, not taking picture in nice spots which anyone can do. That doesnt imply anything. For the record, I never stated nor said that it gives anyone the right, just that it encourages that type of behavior.
