11 Killed In Pro-trump Rally In Nigeria- New York Times by Armaggedon: 5:22pm On Jan 20, 2017
WARRI, Nigeria — Eleven people were killed when Nigerian security forces cracked down on a demonstration supporting the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, a separatist group said Friday, though police denied there were any deaths.
The demonstration was organized in southern Rivers state by the Indigenous People of Biafra, whose members want Trump to support the creation of an independent Biafran state for the Igbo people.
Ugochukwu Chinweuba, a member of the group, said police and soldiers used live rounds and that "scores" were wounded in addition to the dead.
Nnamdi Omoni, a spokesman for Rivers state police, said the claim was false and that police only used tear gas.
"To the best of my knowledge, there was no casualty as the police merely employed minimal action, which involved the use of tear gas to disperse protesters," he said.
Neither of the competing accounts could be independently verified.
One million people died in the 1967-70 civil war over efforts to create a Biafran state.
In November, Amnesty International accused Nigeria's military of killing 150 pro-Biafra protesters.
The London-based human rights organization said an analysis of 87 videos, 122 photographs and testimony from 146 witnesses showed "the military fired live ammunition with little or no warning" into crowds protesting in several cities between August 2015 and August 2016.
The army denied the allegations, saying soldiers used "maximum restraint."

Liberians welcome Trump

Dressed in white and blue t-shirts with red caps, a group of around 100 mainly women danced and marched to congratulate US President-elect Donald Trump on his inauguration.

The front of the t-shirts carried the photo of Trump, sandwiched by the flags of the US and Liberia, with “Make America great again, along with Liberia,” emblazoned on them

Under the sound of a brass band, the group danced and each waved the US flag as they marched on Snapper Hill to the US embassy where they presented a statement of “full support” to the Trump administration.

“We trust that the coming administration will make America great again, thus continuing to lead the world by great example,” the one-page statement said.

The head of the parade, Cecelia Siaway-Teah, president of the Women Movement of Liberia, told reporters after the presentation that they were moved to march for Trump and honor him because “he challenged all obstacles” as he contested the presidency.

She said the parade was “to show the Americans that we appreciate their democracy”.

An embassy official received the statement on behalf of Ambassador Christine Elder.

Liberia was founded by freed slaves from the US in the 19th century; its constitution, form and system of government and flag are all modelled on those of the US.

Many of the pre-war presidents were born in the US.

what are Liberians doing that is different from what IPOB is doing? why are they not being shot and killed in Liberia?

Alhamdulilahi here too. I am sadden and disgusted seeing the ugly incident, but am still waiting for the press release from the NPF. Meanwhile, i wish the IPOB too can learn to stage a protest/demonstration in accordance with the rule of law. I pray God comfort their family and grant the departed souls internal rest.
