What's this news I'm hearing? That teachers would not be paid because of Commissioner of Education's/principals' corruption. Can someone confirm or refute?

My brother its not true. Even if wike said that out of anger or something else (even though he himself is a thief ) yet he cannot dare try not to pay teachers because commissioner and principals are extorting student.

Federal, State, Local governments share N400bn for JanuaryBy Wale Odunsi on January 20, 2017@dailypostngr
Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) on Friday shared N400 billion among the three tiers of government.

The figure is N13.1 billion more than what they shared as revenue in December.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, at the monthly FAAC meeting said the N400 billion was distributed under four distributable sub-heads.

They are: statutory allocation, where the sum of N224.88 billion was allocated, Value Added Tax N79.27 billion, exchange gain N52.84 billion, and excess Petroleum Profit Tax N42.99 billion.

“After deducting cost of collections to the revenue generating agencies, the Federal Government got N105.76 billion, states N53.64 billion, and local government councils, N41.35 billion.”

In addition, she said the sum of N15.5 billion was given to the oil producing states, based on the 13 per cent derivation principle.

For VAT allocation, Adeosun said the Federal Government received N11.4 billion, states N38 billion, while Local Government Councils got N26.63 billion.

Adeosun said that the Federation generated N145.6 billion as Mineral Revenue and N103.1 billion as non-Mineral revenue, while the excess crude account is 2.45 billion dollars.

Adeosun said that the force majure Forcados, Qua Iboe and Brass terminals was still impacting negatively on revenue generation.

Speaking, the Chairman, Forum of Finance Commissioners in Nigeria, Mr Mahmoud Yunusa, said that states were determined to keep improving their internally generated revenue.

“Low federation revenue has become a blessing in disguise to us. Initially almost all the states relied heavily on FAAC.

“But now, because the money is no longer there, it has forced us to look inwards at the opportunities and potentials in our respective states and beginning to explore them.

“We had to look at cutting cost in running governance and blocking all revenue leakages,’’ he said

Until you see your coinfirmation letter and hold it on your hand . Don't believe any them say! Or from reliable source! Because the "NEWS" you hear in the morning can become "NEW" at night. The next day you wake up and start finding the "S"

I refute! Is time to start rejecting negative news...this is 2017. Concentrate on the positive! Any negative news hide it before you give people high BP.

Illegal levies: Wike queries commissioner, permanent secretary, director
— 18th January 2017
From Tony John, Port Harcourt
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has berated the state’s Ministry of Education officials for failing to utilise its monthly overheads judiciously, thereby passing unnecessary financial burden to less-privileged parents in the state.
Wike has directed the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, Permanent Secretary, , Dr. Patricia Ogbonnaya and the Director of Secondary Education, Mrs Mae Solomon, to offer written explanation on the funds collected illegally from parents.
Speaking during a meeting with principals of public secondary schools, Wike also directed the principals to provide written explanations on how they expended unapproved levies collected from parents.
The principals are expected to submit their reports on Friday, January 20, 2017, to the governor’s Chief of Staff.
Unmoved, the governor has said officials and principals found culpable, after written explanations, would be disciplined.
“I, hereby, direct the Education commissioner, permanent secretary and the director of Education to, within the next four hours, provide written explanations on collection of unapproved levies.
“Tabulate the monies collected. How much was collected?
“How much got to the education ministry? How much was left with the principals? If this is not done, all of you will be suspended.
“Also, explain how much levies are being charged the students and to which account are the monies paid. Who is the approving authority of such an account?”
The governor said he will start a cleansing process in the ministry and public schools, to reposition them for greater performance.
“I will not spare anyone involved in defrauding our parents,” he vowed.
Governor Wike also said since assuming office, he hasbeen releasing monthly overheads to all ministries, which was suspended by the immediate past administration.
Ogbonnaya and Solomon said they arrived at the levies following meetings held by top civil servants, Nigerian Union of Teachers and All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) of the ministry during the immediate past administration.
They said no formal memorandum was written to Wike to seek his approval for the levies charged.

Wow! Really? I HAIL the governor on this if he really means what he said. I've never been in support of that illegal collection of money from parents. Makes teaching useless and the students unserious. Bravo!!!(Hope it isn't political talk as usual. Have lost my trust in all these politicians). However it shouldn't affect our salary biko.

I hope we shall get our January salary next week between Tuesday 31st January and Friday 3rd February 2017.

It will make sense if my February 2016 unpaid salary accompany my January 2017 salary.

It will be a great birthday celebration and a gift for me, as I mark my additional one year on 4th February 2017.
