Lagos Police Rescinds Ban Decision, To Provide Security For Feb 6th Protest by nabegibeg(op): 9:32pm On Feb 03, 2017
The Lagos state police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, has agreed to provide security for the February 6th protest that is slated to hold at the National Stadium, Lagos. After a meeting with the organizers of the rally, the Commissioner who spoke to newsmen said

“We had a meeting with the protesters and we explained to them why we advised against the protest. A pro-government group wants to protest that same day and we don’t want a situation where there would be friction.

We also don’t want hooligans to hijack the process and injure the protesters. After explaining to them, they said they will go back and discuss with others. They said if they decide to go ahead, they won’t demonstrate but would assemble at a point and read their demands.

That notwithstanding, we have resolved to provide security for them. It is our responsibility and we won’t shy away from it. We will ensure trouble makers do not hijack the process.”

As if they had a choice. This is a protest led by a man very popular among the youth and middle-aged of the country, funny enough who's not from one of the 3 major tribes so they cannot coat it as a tribal thing and government via police is trying to intimidate it.

These insensitive politicians are slowly realising the height of anger in the streets. It may take some foolish act in the middle of something as 'inconsequential' as this to shake off the cowardice in the masses.
Re: Lagos Police Rescinds Ban Decision, To Provide Security For Feb 6th Protest by ChaleeBendel:
Why the U-turn? They've realised if they stopped the protest Nigerians would come for the head of Lagos state Police commissioner.

Maybe someone alerted them to the fact BBC, CNN and Aljazeera would be covering the protest.

Policies that didn't work in 1984 is not going to work in 2017.

Lool. Our APC government. Talk A today, reply B tomorrow.

In other words, our government tried to call the protest off by using the police (who BTW were quoting constitution through their anus) , but later on the same thieves police Don change mouth.

Change is truly here!

Peaceful protest is legal worldwide. US and Romania citizens protested against their respective governments recently. I can not figure out the fear of this administration. Sincerely, they've failed us. They've reduced our economy to a loaf of bread!

I gave up on Nigerian policemen the moment they made that statement of arresting protesters. We are in democracy for goodness sake.

Meanwhile
I am neither FOR nor AGANIST the protest, but I won't be found anywhere around the protest.
