This is a clear case of laziness. They 'help' you folks with everything, even withdrawing your own money. Can't you do your chores, can't you be patient in a queue, can't you be patient to learn how things work and how to get things done. Yet you don't have the resources to risk and waste. If a single ATM card can wreck this much havoc on your finances and cause worldwide publicity then you should not be handing you card to just anybody, I mean anyone at all. It is the rich that don't do cards, don't do queues and don't moan about people pilfering from their stash. C'mon, wake up.
Oga she kindly asked for solutions

just lock up....

Hello NL family, please is there any possibility of getting back my money?
here is my story.

On Tues 31-1-2017,I gave my Sister my ATM card to make a withdrawal for me at one of the banks in my area about an hour later,I started getting debit alerts above the supposed amount she was to withdraw.
I started calling her line but it wasn't available, I had to rush down to the bank to know what's happening and on getting there,my sis started narrating how she tried withdrawing and the ATM couldn't pay her
And someone behind her told her the ATM isn't dispensing cash that she should cancel it and bring out the card. They guy brought out the card himself and slot it back(Unknowingly to my sis,he slot in another card that is not mine) and immediately left.So she tried entering my pin again but it was saying incorrect pin and the ATM swallowed the card.
*It was at this point that my sis got confused and started calling me by then I've already started receiving alerts.
*Aside withdrawals, the culprit paid for some goods through POS(details in the picture attached)
*yesterday I went to collect the CCTV footage from The bank and the guy smartly covered his face(picture attached (

Please guys I seriously need this money back,is there another way to go about it since his face isn't showing,Bankers in the house help me out please.

Brother it may be relatively easy to get this guy. He bought stuff using your card on from an Online Store. Have your bank track the store and contact the store to release the DELIVERY ADDRESS of the goods ordered.

Re: My Sister Got Duped At An ATM Point, Can I Get My Money Back? by tmcleo2k2(m): 2:36pm On Feb 04, 2017
Sorry bro. Most you can do is to use the card left behind to track the owner...that is if that's not another stolen card.
But most importantly, your sister was careless with the pincode! Without the pin, the damage would have been minimal and most likely not instant.
Kindly confirm from your sister how the "dude" was able to get that close to her during her transaction...
Pertinent questions:
1. Could it be that they are friends?
2. Was the "dude" trying to hit on her?

One thing that could have helped is ur having your banking mobile app.... Immediately you got the second alert.... U open ur app and block ur atm card

Visit the bank
Tell them to check the details of the card that got stuck in the ATM
Make them call the owner of the card
The holder of that card could be ascertained from the owner of the card as at the date of the debit.
If the owner doesn't come to get the card, use the address on the account details to trace the owner with a police.
If the bank can't give you the info, go through the police. let the police meet the bank themselves.

However, depending on the amount involved, the money may not be worth the stress and procedure

So annoying. Get the dropped card and get details from it. The bank should investigate
The dropped card will most definitely be another victim's card, whose card was stolen.

On a second thought, I'm wondering why the counterfeit card wasnt blocked by the first victim and still requesting her to input the password.
It most probably might have been a recently stolen card though.

Bank Fraud is an easy fraud to investigate in some part of the World these days, but in Naija, it seems like the hardest. I wonder what all these bank verification and the rest are meant for then.

Besides, some of the Staffs who work at the banks are criminals, so I'm not surprised.

Mr man there's no need for panic, you already have what you need to apprehend the thief. Since this thief did ecommerce with your card, all you need is to trace the seller he paid for the goods and get the name and delivery address for the contact the goods will be delivered to. That's how to catch the thief. End of story.
I'm not so sure he didn't create a fake account or delivery address. This is why we need identity management in this country. I would have said the phone number and email address from the E-Commerce store will help but remember, a thief tells different lies to cover up. Then again, a good investigator will discover the leak - criminals often make silly mistakes no matter how sophisticated their cover ups are.

Never give your atm card to someone for any kind of transaction. If you can't go do it yourself, simply transfer the cash into their own account so they could go make the withdrawal with their card for you. Simple. I stopped handing my card to anybody for withdrawal assistance after a close folk of mine recharged his phone line on my account at the point of helping me withdraw cash. I received the debit alert where I was with anger. That singular airtime purchase disorganized a tight budget I had already done on the money that should have been left.

That moment, I realized it was careless to give my atm card to anyone for assistance.

OP's, sister ought to have been observant - when he switched the cards, she ought to have noticed the difference in cardholder's name.

So unfortunate... Like someone has suggested, tracking the ordered goods could help identify the culprit.. But not without the help of a good police force which we lack in Nigeria. Before they even offer to help, they would make you spend more...

Oh boy this guy wicked oo. Wetin he buy with 120k like that? It is either they helped him change the money to cash or he bought something that expensive with the intention to resell.

The guy can be caught but naija police no get time to pursue 200k. So just give up or use alfa.

Tracing the culprit through the ATM card that got stucked is a good idea but we shouldnt forget the fact that this fraudster would have been in the game for quite a long time. Am so confident that the card left behind belongs to a previous victim, the same way your card would also be used to scam another victim. The best option is to trace the fraudster through the payment he made on POS.

Sorry to hear, monitor the transactions he did,, the blocked card should be returned as it contains a name(probably his name) and if he transferred money into another account it can be traced.
Re: My Sister Got Duped At An ATM Point, Can I Get My Money Back? by nlanded: 5:01pm On Feb 04, 2017
I sympathise with you but I can't help but also be shocked at how careless and slow you add.

The first ATM cash withdrawal happened at 03:09 am, the next was at 03:40am and the third at 04:29am, weren't you awake during this time? Let's say you were asleep but why didn't you block you card prior to this time? The ATM card got stuck in the machine, I know, but to be sure I would block that card till I get back my card, the card in the hands of the ATM operator at the bank is not safe either, even bank officials can do fraud so that's the first mistake you made by not calling your bank and blocking that card when your sister told it that the ATM machine seized it, you ought to have blocked it and hoping to unblock it later when you successfully got it back.

And the worst mistake you made is the last transaction, let's say you didn't think it wise to block a sized ATM card, you woke up in the morning and saw that 100K was removed from your account from 3-4am, why didn't you still call your bank and block the card? The last POS transaction happened by 4:17pm that evening, isn't that absolute carelessness? They swooped 120K in that last POS transaction, the other 100k stolen could be a mistake most people would make but the 120K POS transaction is careless, that 120k should still be with you by now if you applied common sense.

Lastly, from all I see here, I don't think you can trace the thief, he withdrew from the ATM early in the morning and would have all the time to hide his face as no one would be around, as for seized ATM card he exchanged with your sis, it might not be his card in the first place, it might be a stolen one he got in the same way he stole yours from your sis and the POS transaction would have no ties with him, he just walked into a shop and purchased something worth of 120k, even if the shop has a CCTV camera I'm sure he would be smart enough to hide his face from the camera.

Please we smarter next time, sorry for the loss.

@Bishops10 by now your card could be used as a decoy in another scam and expectedly since it has been blocked could also hang in another ATM machine. Alternative to this is the scammer using specialized cards for the scam that would hang making the victim wait there.

To make the scam work the scammer would have used a bank card similar in look to yours making me feel once you find the guy he would be in possession of bank cards of varying types and colors. I see a form of laziness in the investigative skills of bank services which is why some of these people get away with it. Your sister must have been watched prior to her time at the machine. The dude can be found on camera while trying to pick a suitable mark so the timestamps of like 30 mins to an hour should be viewed. Mirror reflections too could pick up his face from the ATM screen. Ask if such has happened there before and once you have a picture have the bank guard verify (hopefully he is not in the loop so let this be a last resort) and see if the guy's face could be recognized as a regular face stalking ATM users.

Form the other side of you actual transaction repeat same but this time see if there is any CCTV overlooking the walk from ATM A to ATM B. Prior or later users of ATM B after him could give one or two good info if they can be contacted (you would need the police for this). I strongly believe the culprit has used ATM B and the POS location as an habit in carrying out his acts. If you get a picture from one location he should be identified somewhere in that triangle.

Wishing you good recovery - Teemy

Hmmmmm, this almost happen to me but God took control, gave my bros Atm to go and withdraw money for me, he got there and according to him the ATM wasn't paying and the guy that posed as a bank security asked him to insert the card let him help him and uunknowingly to my bros swapped the card and left telling him that it's not working, my bros inserted the card with the pin ATM swallowed the card so the security man there went and brought the only card the ATM swallowed lo and behold it wasn't my own, it was then that my bros called and told me the shocking story.

Long story short, I got to the bank and d security man gave their customer's care line, I called them and the card was blocked.

They normally do it on weekends, mine was on Friday evening. Bros I don't think something can be done about it.

First, I will start by saying don't be disheartened. there are many people DAT have lost money including myself, d pain is suicidal. COncerning this issue, blocking the card is the most important. everyone reading this thread must endeavor to put their bank customer service on speed dial Not just ur account officer number, especially dos using debit and credit cards.
Now u have blocked d card and officially reported to the police give the issue to GOD,as far as u did not steal DAT money and u pay ur tithe, your money will be returned back to u..I bet u.
When he pays the tithe, who mails it to God?
Stop this tithe nonsense. Help dying kids and poor people who are the Gods on the street. Those are the people ur pastor will never reach out to but instead milk the little they have to survive and use it to acquire wealth for himself, family and co scammers. Stop promoting religious robbery and scam. God hears the cry of the poor.
