TWoods:

Please speak with your ISO. You are not supposed to file your taxes with turbotax until you become a resident for tax purposes - 5 years of continuous stay in the US or your status changes to a PR. If you notice, you're supposed to use form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, NOT the regular 1040. Just because someone did it and got away with it does not give you cate blanche to do same. Many people get lucky and tax forms are not reviewed during change of status applications. If you're getting tax credits... that is technically fraud.
TWoods na true you talk, the person gets audited and is sent a receipt for overpaid returns with a deadline to pay back. it is a normal routine the IRS takes to cover the books. most guys know this but go ahead and file to get Education Credits even when they are NON-residents, but when the president has scammed this same IRS for 16 years you wonder undecided

how do you move from a place where you had to provide for the basic necessities of life without the system/government making policies to lighter those burden to this "heaven" we "temporarily" inhabit, I don't care if you come from the super rich neighbourhoods of Lekki or the brown roofs of Ibadan, it's an opportunity to become whatever you want to be. all this cat and mouse wouldn't help either one of Us.

FACT: less than 10% of students coming to the US use this avenue. ( my research grin )

schools Up there tend to be a bit too competitive for reasons known to them, but an outstanding profile should be good enough for you. just get in touch with a professor in charge of that research program which most interdisciplinary program seems to be

it's no.1 on my list tho. thanks for the info ... I don't really get what you meant by "schools up there"

Guidelines don't exist - first things first... (give yourself 1 year to plan at least - no rushing, as many here seem to prefer as if American won't exist after tomorrow)

1. What major do you wish to study? Settle that in your mind.
2. How much are you able to afford? That helps you narrow down the schools you can apply to (no more than 4) and whether you need to see if you can get funding.
3. What are the requirements? I always recommend you pick up the phone and speak with program coordinators, you'd be surprised how much this improves your chances. SAT, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT? Determine that.
4. Plan to take your tests (3 months practice time is good)
5. Send in your application - again continue to communicate with program coordinators to make sure your file is complete.
6. Whether you think so or not... a healthy funding offer is ALWAYS a plus when you have a visa interview

You really don't need a forum to do this. You can do this on your own, for free.
