[quote author=blesoh post=53535712] I was wondering if this is the same edikang ikong I cook every week, the hot water part just got me staring at my phone. Hahahahaha, it's well. It's not the op's fault shaa, some normally add large quantity of water as if they are cooking onugbu so they add thickner at the end but the look and taste is always different, it can't give that look on the picture above. |
Re: Recipe: How To Prepare Nigerian Vegetable Soup by dingbang(m): 6:33pm On Feb 08, 2017 |

Re: Recipe: How To Prepare Nigerian Vegetable Soup by Abiagirl777(f): 6:34pm On Feb 08, 2017 |
dingbang: your meat/stockfish water should almost be dry before cooking commences, vegetable soup should only have the water that came out from the veggies and no where else. no need for of or,achi or any thickener. |
Re: Recipe: How To Prepare Nigerian Vegetable Soup by blesoh(f): 6:36pm On Feb 08, 2017 |

dingbang:Well cross river has different tribes, and it also depends on the family too, but we are welcoming. Don't be afraid, BTW what tribe are you. |
Re: Recipe: How To Prepare Nigerian Vegetable Soup by dingbang(m): 6:52pm On Feb 08, 2017 |
blesoh:lol yes you guys are welcoming but the in laws aren't... They just tax a man exhorbitantly who isn't from their tribe dat is marrying their daughter.. Am from IMO state tho... I have akwaibom female friends around me who are marriageable.. But still yet a lot of things are drawing me back.. Like I give u an example.. Where I stay, I have some akwaibom people living close to me and they are women.. D noise they make is just annoying...and they just don't stop talking.. They love talking at the top of their voices and it distracts me from reading.. All these things contribute to the dislike for akwaibom people generally .. |

dingbang:Cross river is totally different from Akwa Ibom, and not all parts in Akwa Ibom that do that, we the efiks don't tax, like I said it depends on the family, some may have long throat some don't, my village you can't spend up to 100k for bride price, including parent's clothes. BTW paternally am from imo state, ikeduru to be precise. My mum is from calabar and I married from here too. |
Re: Recipe: How To Prepare Nigerian Vegetable Soup by luchee(f): 9:13pm On Feb 08, 2017 |

Re: Recipe: How To Prepare Nigerian Vegetable Soup by megareal: 11:39pm On Feb 08, 2017 |
Op, much as you try small, you missed a lot. As a proper Akwa Ibom woman, I can tell you edikangikong belongs to Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Others prepare ordinary ugwu soup. I can also tell you that you dont use thickener in edikangikong soup. You don't slice your leaves before washing rather you wash your leaves first in cold water before you slice. You can never get rid of all the sand, grass and worms attached to the leaves if you slice them first. Using hot water on veg kills all the nutritional values. You dont use water for edikangikong. The leaves esp the water leaves will give you all the water you need. That's why we still remain the best cooks o. The ting dey our fingertips. |
