If I were your friend, I'd move!
It might take him some time to settle down and live a comfortable life once again but it's worth the whole stress. He should move for the future of his kids. They'll forever remain grateful.

Come to Canada and get citizenship. He'll then have the option of living/working in either country, whichever one benefits him. 4 years wait to get citizenship is nothing in the long run. One shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket, and naija simply isn't a stable/predictable country. I can't live in a country where the President just disappears when they want.

He will get visa if he has assets, they know he won't run away, why are you guys so pessimistic?

How can someone with such prospects here be thinking of relocating. OP, in Nigeria we actually own houses not the case abroad where you have to pay mortgages for life.

Tell your friend to stay back and make Nigeria great again. All hands must be on deck, no running away [s]especially if he voted for the present government.[/s] grin

Does he really want to move to a place where the temperature can drop to -30C during winter? Can he stand the cold? Does he want to move to a place where the meals he grew up eating all his life are not easily available? Does he want to move to a country that has fewer public holidays than Nigeria meaning that he'll work more days than back home? Does he want to be far from his family and kinsmen and in their place have to deal with people from different parts of the globe, some of whom may have customs and behaviours that are strange to him?

Instead of all this, in Nigeria, he can be at the forefront of change helping steer the country in the right direction.

He can help make Nigeria great again. . . besides Pidgin2 needs him around. grin

-30 is small. it was -46 this morning where I live...but i didnt feel it cos i move from one heated environment to another. It's not that bad..its only for a while then the summers are awesome.

Tonight, I ate a plate of hot eba(garri ijebu) with vegetable stew enriched with dried shrimps and stock fish imported all the way from Nigeria grin ... moimoi, peppersoup with better cowleg and goat meat, ewedu, semo, pounded yam, okro, yam e.t.c ...everything dey here.

Family members are one call away.....
The holidays are sufficient: 4weeks leave + public holidays per year. wetin person dey ask for again.

im that change sha... this change that we all have been expecting since the 1980's. Almost 40 years after and things have gotten worse...

This to me is the most important reason.
How can one look at them in the eyes and tell them nigeria really carez for them and their wellbeing.

-46C? Wow. I'm guessing that unless you live up in the Yukon territories or so that's a feels like reading that takes the wind chill into account and not the actual reading, but that's still very cold for many Nigerians.
Nigerian food items can be found but it may not be in the quality or quantity that he would have obtained back home. For some meals, he will have to do with local substitutes (i.e. spinach in soup) or just do without them entirely eg, suya/masai, afang soup, ofe n'sala etc. Is the guy ready for that grin

Let the guy stay back, too many Nigerians are looking to jump ship these days. Who will develop the country if we all run away? *wink* *wink* grin

@Op, If u'll be moving out as a PR holder, go for it. you have the potential of making much more than What you make in Nigeria currently especially with this exchange rate. Better life, more opportunities for your children, less stress. Someone mentioned lack of Nigerian food, you'll most likely eat more Nigerian food than when u were in Nigeria.
