Putting a port of any kind in Onitsha will create ecological imbalance for water life and plants upstream. The resulting imbalance can have many adverse outcomes far outweighing derivable and commercial benefit of the intending port.

I hope you know that many upstream communities depend on seasonal rain and swollen tide for subsistence living and agriculture, whether its farming, fishing or herding.

These population are at risk if you disturb the balance of life in the water or reduce its capacity for farm irrigation or if the streams and channels that feed into it should dry up and empty out water holes in arid areas.

Please do not discuss anything called Onitsha port dredging.

Find other ways to transport goods from Onne to Biafra.

Have you been to onitsha before to ascertain these rubbish you put down here. ONU OTULE like you

Akwa Ibom people are more friendly than the Riverine people when it comes to doing business

Ibaka port should complement Onitsha port

Onitsha port will serve Delta Anambra and Enugu

Ibaka will serve Imo Abia and Ebonyi

You don't get it. Onitsha is a riverport. It can't handle sizable vessels even when dredged because of the volume of silt in the Niger and Onne port is already in use. Whether Rivers poeple like business or not is not an issue. PH is filled with foreigners already. Infact over 50 percent of the population are settlers so forget that thing. Onne is a viable option. no be Rivers poeple close the port Harcourt port. na Federal govt

The only reason we get insulted for investing in southwest (lagos) is because of the sea port there.

Anambra State sea port is already there, dredge the river so that ships will come in and go out directly from the east and watch how igbos will abandon Lagos.

Anambra already has the highest indigenous companies in Nigeria, in a spirit to grow Nigerian local market, this should be a way to go.

The state is also over the top security conscious..with development at an alarming rate. Just seems fair

Below:
1. Onitsha sea port

2. Onitsha industrial estate close to sea port
What Onitsha have is a River Port not Sea Port. Even Sapele in Delta state which is at the banks of the River Ethiope and closer to the Sea is still a river port though needs attention. The closest part of the South East to the Sea is around the River Imo(I think somewhere in Abia state) which is directly connected to Bonny on mouth of the River at the Sea and Even then, it'll still be a river port.

Environmentally, dredging the River Niger further at Onitsha might also be dangerous for farming and fishing communities up and down stream hence needs serious carefulness.

What we should look at is developing our River ports in the South East and the establishment of a large, operational Sea Port at Akwa-Ibom which will improve commercial activities in the South South/East.

Oniovo Mavo? I think you should be making a case for Warri Port since you're from Delta. That port used to be quite busy before just like Onne in Rivers.

But honestly, for a large heavy duty port, I will recommend Akwa-Ibom(Ibaka, Ibom or so) because it's central to the Eastern areas and other Southern areas.
Also, that area has the adequate depth unlike Warri and Onne which appear not deep enough. Calabar no bad before but it's at a corner and Cameroun dey disturb too.

So I go with Akwa-Ibom for a deep seaport but call for the development of Warri and Onne ports plus Onitsha and Sapele River ports.

Yes it's a beautiful River. I think the place is called Uruakwu or so(not sure) in Abia. That place will be good for a River Port because it's linked directly to Bonny on the Atlantic in Rivers State.

But from the pictures I've seen, that place will be good for a river tourism park.

That's another beautiful idea....
some call it Obuaku River or so....it has many channels and enough room for expansion so as to accommodate big ships... because no single building will be affected ...I also heard is close to Atlantic ocean but a bridge in Akwaibom needs yo be removed...

the Stupid Governor TA Orji promised to Expand it and standardized the Port...

Why can't we open up all the seaports, be it Ibaka, Calabar, Onne, Warri. Create enough inland seaport including, but not limited to Oguta in Imo, Onticha, Niger state, Benue there are so many of them being fed from these seaports. The increase in activity in the country will be tremendous, can you even imagine the number of people that the will get employed as a result of the increased presence of industries that would pop up here and there?

I don't know which one is the current best. I haven't shipped anything or work in industry. I won't answer that. I'll just assume which ever one is most used is the best. Port authority has stats if you care to know that.

To talk I future tense. I would assume Ibom Deep Seaport will be the best. Then you have to factor In Ibom industrial city with Free trade zone status. It has it own gas wells to sustain power. The private sector is what Akwa Ibom is banking on to make port successful. It won't just be annother big government elephant project.

● The Ibom superhighway will be a 12 lane ultramodern thoroughfare with 6 lanes on either side of the divide. 4 of the lanes will be medial speed lanes and will have a toll gate while the other 2 lanes on either side will be to service exits into surrounding communities.

● the project will be funded through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, and is expected to be completed within 24 months.

● First segment of the rail line: Calabar – Uyo – Aba – Port-Harcourt will be ready within two years with a possible future link to the Ibom Deep Sea Port and Ibom Industrial City

● Uyo airport to move goods.

● Berth depth of 14m - 16m

● naval secruity

I've not heard anything about the sea port for quite sometime now.

Has the construction started?
