Rubbish, leave me with my wisdom... Why won't you accept a job at Kabiru enterprises, when you don't know the difference between ''I'm and Am''... |

the first experience as a Nigerian should be ''school industrial training'' In a country where companies refuse to accept students just for I.T....where will they expect u to grab d experience from. Please....the best way for us is for God to destroy Nigeria and rebuild it. |

kinibigdeal:I see the point you are trying to make but I don't completely agree with you. I am a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from a reputable Polytechnic in the country. I was lucky to get adequate working experience in my field through IT. But since I finished youth service 2 years ago, our economy has been quite unstable(to say the least) and jobs that can give me more experience in my field are not easy to come by as it was some years ago. The only job opportunities that greet us every day are mini marketing jobs and teaching in mini private schools. I have rejected many of such jobs in the last 2 years and I don't regret it. Apart from the poor pay, which doesn't really bother me, what experience can mini marketing and teaching job add to my CV as a mechanical engineer? If we must tell ourselves the truth, our big men at the top are the major cause of unemployment in this country for 2 reasons. One of the reasons is unrelated to our topic of discussion so I will only say the other reason - They keep putting square pegs in round holes because of who they know. How will an engineer like me get working experience when my friend who had a pass in Marketing was picked ahead of me to be trained and possibly employed as a pipe welder just because he knew someone at the top? When a marketer runs away from his field and is being employed to work in an engineering firm, where will the real engineers work to gain the much needed experience? Do you expect me to take the available marketing jobs? I can't be that kind of of fool. I rather venture into business and advice others to be self employed because the greatest of all fools are those who still spend their time and money going to the universities only to come out and look for jobs in this era of no jobs. |

ymee:Dude ur pitch is poor.. Sounds more like poetry. Software training means what?? Be specific, especially in the first few lines. Too many skills means ur proficiency is probably only average in all the above. List a few skills and defend them with industry related acronyms and terms. Be explicit about the depth of knowledge u have. Computer Appreciation, wtf Saying sh*t like that automatically invalidates ur degree.General perception: No industry experience. Never touched a computer. |

gentlegenius:It means you dont know the scope of your job. Let me give you a tip, what do you know about Facility management in the context of your discipline? How does your discipline relate to the construction industry? You need to know more about your discipline before complaining of opportunities. You have no business with marketing if you know the question why, where and how! thanks |

As far as this thread is concerned am a fool..... This is my story.... Even b4 my NCE I was already doing some small small teaching jobs, as such after my NCE days I continued teaching in a small sch with little pay but was gathering experience and some training.... God blessed with a Job that paid more than with connections with the government. Well I left the job after a year to concentrate on my BSc program even though I Nw regret it cha... Nw am back and straight on I took a teaching jab... The pay ain't gud but it OK..... In just a month I was promoted to d secondary section from primary 2.... I have a private lesson that's same as my salary..... The truth is that am enjoying myself while my mates re at home waiting for service..... The worst part is that most of then Dat wouldn't wanna teach must teach in service..... But my advantage is that b4 they round up and come back to face the Labour market I would have stepped to a level that I wouldnt need to go abt looking for jabs up and down..... So in the actual sense I may be a fool Nw but will be proven to be wise later..... Thank u op..... I nid to show my fiancé dis write up..... Her yanga concerning jab search wan dey too much nw |

You're correct. My first salary as a graduate was 7000 naira. I needed the experience so had to stay, then 12000 and now 20000. We will get there. Better than staying idle o. |

Do I agree with OP? No! Reason: when the "wise" dumps a job, a "fool" picks it up from the pool of unemployed. Nothing really changed. Summary: the number graduates by far surpass the jobs available. But notwistanding, that does not overule the idea of adding value to oneself in the present situation, the truth is you may not find the kind of job you desire career wise, but you can create a lifelong livelihood for yourself if you push beyond your comfort zone. |
