As a proud kano Corper ....the Op has said it all ,apart from sharia in kano which doesn't really matter ,kano is home to cheap food ,fruits, etc the cost of leaving here is really cool compared to some other states ,this is coming from some one who is based in lag and understands the uselessness of 19800 .well I'm an A16 Corper and I'm happy I didn't redeploy ,what is the need of choosing a place you already know the outcome ,that really kills the fun in it, I'm a fruit lover ,and kano made me eat fruits like the likes of watermelon, guava, garden egg ,carbbage, carrot ,date ,cucumber etc to an extent it waste,in between i serve in a village ,kura. Local government to be precise ,one good thing I love about here is that all village ppa ,maintain and equip their lodge ,the rooms are shared one person to a room ,and trust me this is not obtainable in other states ,kano is home to various businesses such as clothing materials, spare parts ,agricultural products ,hides and skin ,gold etc .and the good news is the state has started paying corpers hopefully. Serving in kano has helped me remove and abstract bias of ethnicity ,religious and tribal bigotry..

N.B - Nysc is all about service to your fatherland ..make that a priority.. Wee!!!
you guys should stop saying, "and its not so in others state" because you've not been to all those remaining states to draw your conclusions.

Yes I served in kano too 2014/2015 and the experience was okay. I wasn't complaining like my mates who served in other states.

Kano is one of the developed states in nigeria and by far the most developed in the north infrastructure wise.

And corpers are treated with respect wherever they are posted to.

The only thing I think people should be wary of is the dress code ( this is mostly applied to women) where you can't reveal much to the outer world.

And people are always mistaking sharia law in kano. Sharia law in kano is not applicable to Christians. You can only be judged by the Sharia law in kano only when you are Muslim. When Sharia law was imposed in the state, areas like sabon Gari were excluded because of the Christian majority there. So you have no problem with the Sharia law. What you don't even know is most kano youth don't follow the Sharia law. They just do their thing in secret to avoid any little talks.

People just scare people off, telling them not to go to kano, I don't know why. But kano is really nice. I haven't served in all the states in nigeria (as you can only go to one, lol) so I can't judge other states NYSC-wise but kano is okay to serve. I enjoyed mine.

I cut my hair for 100 naira.

You can't even finish tomatoes and pepper of 100 naira in my ppa.

My ppa gives me food items like rice, beans, palm and groundnut oil, maggi, lipton, corn(for Tuwo) etc.

There's power supply but if PHCN misbehaves, we charge our phone for 20 naira but I charge at the saloon were I normally cut my hair.

Free accommodation with water(both tap and borehole water). The list goes on and on, what more can I be looking for. This place is LG, life is good.

watch out for ppl shouting Allah Akbar especially after Friday mosque. if you don't, your head may be separated from your shoulders one day.

But if you want to work with Kano State Polytechnic, though the pay isn't good but you will have a lot of time to do other things, then I have such access at no cost for you.

The
truth is that, Kano is more developed than Akwa
Ibom ( I have been to this state severally), Enugu,
and other states.

Please, next time, keep Enugu or any other part of Igboland out of your ramblings.

Kano is not more developed than Enugu.

Yes! It has more population,,but that's where it ends.
Thanks.
Lol. Which Enugu, the Enugu that I have lived all my life in? the Enugu that I move about every day?, you have never been to Kano, so can you move to the next excuse?

Stop hyping unnecessary issues, unless you provoke die-hard religious fanatics, Nobody will care when you talk to a female, preach ur gospel near ur church, not pee near Islamic schools etc. JUST BEHAVE LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN BEING. HAUSAS DONT CARE WETHER YOU ARE QN IDOL WORSHIPPER AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PROVOKE THEM

This is scary. That means one has to walk on egg shells. To avoid provoking anyone cos it will end in death. And we all know that it is aquite a thin line before a Muslim fanatic is provoked. While in a heated arguement with a Moslem,; A simple proclamation such as "I can't swear by Allah for anyreason, I do not believe in your Allah" during an arguement with a moslm would mean ones death. A situation where one expresses his own faith in the face of arguement may be termed provocation. That means, one can get into Ife or death situation at the click of one's fingers.
Can you imagine if a Muslim has o be told to watch his tongue in n the east so that he is not killed by Christian fanatics?

Bro if u choose to believe me, it will pay you because I'm currently serving in Kano

1. Kano state government does not pay allowance unless they start tomorrow

2. That things are cheap is not everywhere but depends on location of ur ppa, if you live in Sabon gari where I live, you will buy things like u are in south south or south east

3. Electricity is only good in few places but not everywhere

4. The people there who are good are really good but the silly people there are extremely, my brother, extremely, pls what did I say, extremely annoying

Mind you, all I'm telling you is not to condemn Kano, it is a nice place to be, a really developed place that I'm planning to stay on if God accepts my wishes but I'm only trying to correct the wrong notion this post may have created in u.
You live in a place people are running away from. You were happy you got posted to where igbos ND Yoruba came to do business right? they are using your Allowee to do business.
I am the CLO, gwale local government and I am telling you that the state government will start paying beginning with A2016, the schedule officers have submitted names and from the last info I got, the cheque has been signed

Stop deceiving yourself. I have been to Kaduna severally for some functions. With their bad road network, one flyover in Kawo, and unorganized city still constructing road in the city, Kaduna is nowhere close to Kano. One day, I pulled someone to Kano from Kaduna and she couldn't wait but confirm the obvious truth. Kano is a beautiful city

pls, it belittles a person wen u spread falsehood, there is no denying the fact dat kano is a gud option wenregistring for ur NYSC. But pls avoid lies at all cost. Am a serving corp member in kano state wit one of the govt parastatal, get this straight dere is nothing like state allowance not even 1NAIRA. But PPA giv ranging from 1200 like those in ministry of works, housing and transport. 1500 ministry of budget and planning, nothing in ministry of education, 2000 in kano polytechnic and all d above dont ve accommodation 4 corpers bcus d corpers are more than d available spaces. Other PPA giv tokens as much as 5k including schools. The only schools dat giv above that amount are Nasar acadmy, Abu hanifa, andal academy and the likesif u r lucky dere is accomodation in those schools. There is no pepper for 10Naira. Transport na die here o esp those keke. Pls dont let anybody decieve you make the choice you mind is out for.
As you have chosen to lie upon yourself then let it be. PM and I will take you to buy things, there you will see pepper, onions and tomatoes at the listed place. Secondly, Kano state polytechnic has a comfortable Corpers lodge, so stop the lies. I accept that ministries of works pays N1500 for those who will work their way there, its a punishment to them. For the state Allowee I have said something like that. Abu Hanifa pays N7k with Accommodation, food, medical care and the rest. Nasara Academy pays 7k with accommodation and the rest. so where did you get your information from.

Then after your service what happens to you? You're thrown into the oversaturated labour market in search for job...like starting your life afresh. Though I don't subscribe to Abuja don't know about Akwa ibom, its Lagos and PH all the way.

Akwa ibom is peaceful, warm weather, serene environment and more jobs and business opportunities.
How many Corps members have died in Akwa Ibom this year? When you are done answering that, what do you mean by serene environment? Kano is a beautiful place, I have been to Akwa Ibom many times, UYO and Oron, so what are you saying. Oil jobs? where are there. You compare business in Akwa Ibom to that of Kano? maybe I have just heard it enough today

Well life in some part of the north is cheap sha at least if you know how to manage well as a corper you should be able to save 5,000 to 8,000 or more every month that is if you are not serving in the state capital, I am serving in Katsina State Mairua town and I must say I use my gas whenever I am in a hurry because we have at least 10 hours electricity everyday, though meat is somehow costly here sha.

What is this OP trying to say? undecided I served in Akwa Ibom state from july 2011 to June 2012 and the monthly allowance then was 6k. It had never happened that AKSG paid 10k to any corper before and after then. Although, I enjoyed my stay overthere. It was a peaceful place to live. Ado Ok grin grin

This might sound as a shock against the popular belief people have. Well, I will be passing out on Friday, 7th April, 2017. Having been in NYSC scheme for a year, I think I am in the best position to make my analysis. Well, so many persons believe that Abuja and Akwa Ibom state will be their first and second choice for NYSC, but the truth is that, Kano state is actually better than the duo state. Here are my humble submission.

State Allowance
Unlike what it used to be before, Akwa Ibom is no longer paying the N10,000 monthly allowance to corps members, same as Abuja, and hence there is no need going to these states. While N5,000 in Kano is equivalent to N20,000 in Abuja and Akwa Ibom, i wonder why anyone will not go for Kano. Kano state has started paying corps member, they started with this Batch A who are about to pass out. Hence, since N5000 in Kano is equivalent to N20,000 in Abuja and Akwa Ibom, choosing the two state is to live a life of no savings during the service year.

Place of Primary Assignment
If you are looking for a good place to be during your service year, then Kano state should be your first choice. With lots of industries using NYSC labour, Kano state has proven to absorb more corps members than most other states. As a commercial city, Kano has become a home to numerous corps members who have gotten a work or gotten themselves in different business while serving their country.

Cheap Food
Let's just say that, a sachet of water is still sold for N5 in Kano, a cup of beans sold for N40 in Kano, these prices is what you will never get in Abuja or Akwa Ibom. My colleagues serving in both states have been crying, that though some PPA's pays N10k, it becomes useless as the purchasing power of money is low in the two states. I still buy my tomatoes for N40, pepper N10, and Onions N10, these items will be in good quantity except if you are serving in Sabon gari where Igbo's and Yoruba's dominate for business purposes. Things are relatively cheap over here and there is no way your N19800, won't remain at the end of the month.

Security
For one year that I have been in Kano, I can tell you that we have enjoyed a peaceful atmosphere and everything has been going well. The NYSC officials has been great in the affairs of corps members. You are highly respected by the people for being a corps member and they regard and respect your security. Just go with your I.D card and you are always safe anywhere.

Development
So many persons who have not being to kano think that the city is not developed simply because it is located in the north. The reverse is the case. The truth is that, Kano is more developed than Akwa Ibom ( I have been to this state severally), Enugu, and other states. The infrastructural development in Kano beats that of kaduna, so feel free, you are coming to the biggest city in the North.

Light
Well, let me say that Kano State enjoy constant light. And it is even better when serving in the village. Some corps members do not pay for light, while others pay as low as N100. Unlike what is obtainable in Abuja and Akwa Ibom. My colleague in Akwa Ibom and Abuja always complain about light, though it may depend on which part of the state they are. But even if you stay in Kano village, just be assured that you will always have light.

From the above reasons, I urge 2017 batch A prospective corps members to avoid making mistakes their colleagues make by choosing Akwa Ibom or Abuja and end up crying on the long run. N19800 is too little to depend on, or even paying higher amount for nothing. You are choosing Abuja, can you afford the transportation? Abuja is not for N19800 corpers. You are choosing Akwa Ibom, can you feed yourself for a month with N19800 and still have a savings?.
If you finally make it to kano, and you are posted to the city, send me an email, I will link you up to a good PPA, especially those that would be posted to Gwale Local Government. Thanks and have a nice service year.

am a prospective corp member and kano has been on my mind this long. Thanks for the info however I would like to contact you privately here please aklomakz@mail.com help a brother out

Last I checked, we all have equal opportunity to live. What justification will prompt a "die-hard religious fanatic" take the life of another just under the pretence of provocation. Are there some lives more equal than others? With the emboldened excuse above, the fanatics are given justifications to go out there and continue with the murders on any slight provocation.

sigh...and who told you they are allowed to kill anyhow, besides fanatics willing to start a fight with anybody are extremely rare. The north aint wild wild west that people can be killed anyhow. You make ìt sound like they will just work up to you and stab you just because ur different
