Hmmmmmmm at the quoted prices though.
@op, I use a digital hearing aid and infect have been using one since 2008. It is indeed helpful for me (we all differ). But check that quoted price again. Better still order from amazon or if you have someone outside, say UK, ask the person to buy for you and then pay him.
Because of exchange rate, you need to make a budget of 100k or above. but definitely not what is quoted for you.

Thanks very much bro. I learnt Amazon doesn't work in Nigeria. Moreso, I had contacted starkey company in the US with my medical report, they said don't sell aids to patients. Also, if I had the opportunity to get it from foreign dealer, it must first be programmed for my ear since it is digital based on my medical report. Unfortunately, western countries don't believe in our medical report unless they did their own test. Smh

You suffer from profound hearing loss? How effective is the aid?

It was a bit difficult to get use to because I thought I could immediately start understanding people or t.v. But with time I learnt the limitations of aids and how to use it best. The key is knowing that its a tool to help you hear better but for effective communicating with people required lot of patience from friends and family

I am a sufferer of tinnitus too for over 6 yrs now, though I have been managing to ignore those crazy noise as my doctor adviced and my hearing is perfect.
my fear is I don't want it to get to a stage I will require a hearing aid..

God is our strength

Western people believe in our medical report, depending on were you did it.

A company like starkey will believe your complete audio analysis test if you bring it from places like BSA hearing or Phonics hearing, because they are starkey patners here in Lagos,Nigeria.

Secondly, its thge result from your hearing loss, that will tell how the audiologist will program the hearing aid for you,so if youn have a profound hearing loss, its not advisable to just buy from anywere.

Its a very serious issue...
Siemens and starkey seems to be among the best.

I am currently hustling for 820k to get hearing aids for my son.
Its not easy.

Jesus Christ? cry 820k?

I guess that is meant for 2 ears. I only requested for 1, eventhough both ears were affected. I was later advised to gather atleast 370k at BSA hearing and speech centre in lagos. May God help us

My sis had one for years but got rid of it last 2 years as her hearing got better and she had no further use for it. If she hadn't given it out I'd have sent it to you. Quite unfortunate the healthcare system is shite in naija cah stuffs like this should be given out free or at a really really subsidised rate. I sincerely hope you find the help you seek.

Amen. Thanks for your advise

I had just received a message now from Siemen (signia hearing, US). I was told to visit any of their 2 branches in Nigeria. International hearing centre in lagos and enugu for test and purchase. Signia seems to be technologically advance and cheaper than starkey. I hope to contact them at their lagos branch in few weeks time. Thanks for your time

Amen. Thanks for your advise

Thats not the best thing to do.
Its expensive we know...

But its good to do the right thing so as to get the right results.

There are different types of hearing aids viz
1.Reciver in canal
2.completely in canal
3.Behind the ear
4.In the ear
5.Tinutus
6.single sided hearing

and lots more.

From your story, you said you are having noise in the ear(Tinutus).
Its only an audiologist/ENT that will know the particular aid that you will need, and they are the only ones to program it for you.

What about servicing the aids?
What about remoulding in case its broken?

I advice you source for the money and get it from the right place and or also apply to NGO

i'm sorry to hear about your ear Mr. op.
hearing aids are bulshit! so long it SHNL there is no certainty wether a hearing aid will work. that is because hearing aid works as sound amplifier; it's just like increasing the volume of your radio. that doctor maybe giving you a false hope.
and if you buy the hearing aid and they don't work, return would not be accepted.

your ultimate solution is colchear implant. but it's very expensive. upto 5million naira

I've SHNL too. i've been there, right now i've two hearing aid in my drawer. each for about 200k.

I don't want you to waste your money but, most importantly, i don't want you to feel sad over your hearing loss.

Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional - BUDDHA

Thanks for your advise. Cochlear implant is meant for totally deaf patient. That wasn't my issue. I can hear only to a certain decibel fluctuated by tinnitus. Although, I had met people with positive result while using those aids. I guess u purchase yours when technology was not advance

For where, MTN is the biggest scam I have ever known. The hearing aids they are giving out is substandard, its not for anyone with acute hearing deficiency. The hearing aids the gave out last year were for few people as such many were not contacted to collect after wasting time with tests and some rigorous formality. To get good hearing aids in Nigeria, u must be rich or else u are on ur own. The better option is corclear implant which is in millions of naira. I'm facing the same challenges, its not easy at all. U can contact me so that we can rub mind together. Mine became worse after graduation but I have been managing myself ever since. I believe all hope is not lost.

I love your comment bro. Thanks very much. I will dm u
