Good day everyone, I am a 2016 Batch A stream 1 Corp member passing out on April 7th,2017 by the grace of God. I recently got two job offers, a contract bank job (marketing) for 52k per month with commissions based on your input or a teaching job of 40k.
Aside the banks meagre pay, I feel it'd add to my professional work experience more than the teaching job+ I'd get to meet people who might help me in securing better positions tomorrow but then the stress and time. I really don't know what to do.

Go for teaching, you will have time for yourself. You can also organise extra lesson for your students if you are good. Good and smart teachers enjoy their reward on earth. You can also get something to do on the side

Congrats on your Job offers....as regards the two offers on the table, I will like to ask if you studied a accounting/banking related course? although this is not compulsory to get a bank job, but it will go a long way in developing a career with prospect in the banking industry.
Also know that as a marketer in a bank you will be faced with the herculean task of meeting up with the unrealistic target given to you, this might cause you to have night mares especially if you have a troublesome boss. Its cool starting your job life in a well structured and organized place like a bank, but mind you the bank job is demanding and you will have little or no time to look out for better job unlike teaching. But i think you should go with the bank offer, banking will make you think smart and have opportunity to meet and interact with bright minds, but mind you, you are a contract staff and your name is written in pencil, it can be erased anytime without benefit or compensation.

Goodluck

Go for the bank job#for the experience and opportunity to meet new people to help you chase your career #the teaching job adds nothing to your experience,(only if you want to be a lecturer later in life tho)as young guy go for the banking job especially if the job is in Abuja or Lagos

I have a friend who took up a 50k (thereabout) bank job. For about 2 weeks it was honey moon.
But thereafter, every night she would cry to me and complain of how much she wanted out of the job.

1. No time for herself. (Working from early morning till late evening)
2. Massive pressure from her team leaders.
3. She was employed into the customer care dept. but she was still given targets and asked to bring customers.
4. She was tired of the job in less than a month.
It was monotonous, meaningless and a rat race.

I see people who perhaps have no knowledge of how it works in the bank asking you to choose a bank job.
I would say choose wisely.

If age is on your side, i'll suggest u pick the teaching job and add more value to yourself by getting professional certifications and also some skills like IT skills in the career you wish to go into. You can always get a better offer from another bank with improved conditions, they recruit almost every year.
However, if age is not by your side, pick the bank job, as it would give you a lot of experience and it would cost you your time, lots of it.

You will never know how bank job is until you're into it, or have close pals in it,,,, bank job is cool, but the stress n timing, Sure you know some banks staf works on Saturday,
You can never have time for unself, except if you'll do play smart, since it's marketing, n can stand the stress, you can take it up, and still apply for job, if interviews come, just give excuse you're going to see client n go your interview,,

Teaching job, you do have more time for yourself, apply for job, can seek for space to attend, even apply for further study n combine

First of all, congratulations!

You could consider picking a career path based on a few objectives like:

1. Time
2. Family
3. Personal Growth

Which of the 2 career options will allow you have more time for yourself?

If you plan on having a family, which of these jobs will allow you spend more quality time with your family?

Which of these options will allow you develop yourself personally?

I've been in the financial services industry and I know from experience that banking is not likely to help you along those lines.

To survive- not even thrive- in the banking industry, you'll need a brutal COUGAR mindset and the political dexterity of the cat with nine lives. (You think you're up to that?)

I highly recommend the teaching job, and yes, your concerns about career growth are quite valid. But when you realize all you can do with your flexible schedule as a teacher, you could still reach your financial goals ...with peace of mind.

Isn't that what you really want?

Lot of factors to be considered.

Passion, drive, which is cheaper to maintain in terms of transportation and accommodation cost, which will allow you attend other jobs interview easily.

Just reason am sha.

I've had to choose a low paying, but good position over a high pay with a lower position.

Depends on you.

Weigh your options first!

Apart from having inner love and genuine passion for the teaching profession, can you cope if the school gives you 10arms of classes to teach (lesson notes for each class, you will mark assignments, exams and read ahead for each class). Distance to school must also be put into consideration.
Will you be able to cope?

Banking.
Which department? Are you a full staff or contract? Will you be working in-house or marketing with targets?
Distance must be put into consideration as well.

Weigh your options!

Go for the teaching job... It can give you time for yourself and hence more money if utilized properly. A contract bank job doesn't increase and you work long hours

this matter is quite dicey but given that you are a woman i ll advice that you go for the teaching job because banking job can be quite demanding and might not be good for your relationship (love) life. Assuming that you are still single that is

Get a skill or develop the one you have. You will never acquire any skills from both work because in Nigeria, the work place is not proactive and you will be serving as a modern slave.
