In the developed countries of the world the state gives its citizen their due rights. When Scotland choose to leave the United Kingdom a referendum was conducted by the british government in 2014 but majority of scots decided out of their own freewill to remain with the United Kingdom. A second referendum is coming up in the United Kingdom between now and 2018 to decide if the Scottish people want to remain with the United Kingdom or want to leave following the BREXIT Vote which will now make the United Kingdom to leave the European Union which the scotland and northern ireland want to have a say over that decision. I am wondering why the Federal Government of Nigeria is running away from a REFERENDUM. When our founding fathers Dr Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello ( the Sauduana of Sokoto ) went to London talk to decide the post independence future for Nigeria they actually went there with the feeling that no ethnic group will stand against the interest of their own people. It was based on this fact that Nigeria operated fiscal federalism where the resources in the region belong to the region and the region just pay tax to the federal government. Unlike the practise now where the federal government choose to share the oil and gas money of the Niger delta to the 36 states. The Lagos state government have to share their vat money with other states. With all the civil disturbances, social demonstration being carried out by supporter of Nnamdi Kanu, Nigeria is gradually disintegrating. Unfortunately, Buhari is refusing to listen to voice of reasoning. Elder statemen like E K Clark, PANDEF have called on Buhari severally to embrace restructuring but Buhari believe in northern domination. Buhari believe that the RESTRUCTURING of Nigeria places the northern part of Nigeria at a disadvantage and that it is only the southern part of Nigeria that will benefit. But I think Buhari is making a mistake as the north stand strongly to benefit given its vast Agricultural potential. Has Buhari consider the problems created by oil and gas exploration in the Niger delta and how the fishing and small farm land of the people have been polluted and how the price of crude oil has fallen to its all time low. Yet he choose to dismiss calls for RESTRUCTURING! Time is fast running against all those apostle of ANTI-RESTUCTURING in Nigeria! 8 Likes 1 Share
