Nigerian lecturers are Cramer's, dey don't develop themselves talking about being empirical, all dey dish out in class is text book answers. They r very good st solving examples from text books I mean copy solved examples while u solve internet question wch they already hv answers to. if na lie ask Chinese guy for mechanical engineering. A......... Our lecturers are far worst than d politicians we condemn today. |

Studying Comp Sci at the Lagos State University was a complete waste of time. We were taught FORTRAN and COBOL on paper. No practical. We were taught c++ in 3 weeks and forced to buy its handout. No practical. We were taught database management with a notebook. No practical. We spent so much time learning maths and statistics. We only used computer science lab when we were defending our photocopied project. We didn't use the computers o, we only used the environment. Everything I know today, I paid to learn it in Niit and New Horizons. What then is the essence of studying csc in Nigeria ? 1 Like 1 Share |

The problem isn't just the lecturers, the students are more culpable. Despite the so called outdated and archaic methods of lecturing, most students find it difficult to cope. They give attention to irrelevant issues and only remember they're students at the close of exams. I quite agree with you that our educational system needs reforms but the lackadaisical attitudes of most students should be of utmost concern. 1 Like |

Op said it all abeg. Imagine a computer science dept. in a University teaching FORTRAN and Qbasic. Fortran was introduced in the year 1977 and Qbasic followed few years later. Even a lecturer opened his silly mouth to say if we are looking for true knowledge, we'd better go outside(IT schools) to get 'em because they(the lecturers) won't do that. How would a programmer still be dwelling on a programming language used and dumped over 45years ago. Young boys of 12-15 in Europe and America have created their own computer softwares, Android apps and so on while my mates are struggling with how to open Netbean or Python IDLE. A lecturer will come to class and perform dry coding on the white board on how to 'print("Hello world!") and would still have the nerve to say he is a certified programmer. If not for YouTube tutorial videos, I would have been left with 'zero' like my fellow students and lecturers. I spit on our education system. I have sworn that none of my kids will school in a Federal University in Nigeria or maybe in Nigeria as whole. |

Guys stop talking nonsense without facts. What do u expect?? Education in Nigeria is almost free because the government knows that most Nigerians do not value education. You can only pay more for what you value. I spent N8m tuition fee for just a session abroad. I went for the best in the world And I am a Nigerian lecturer now. My passion is to teach, but I cannot replicate the standard abroad because the facilities and right environment are not in place. You all depend on the government to fix education. Even when they try to, the money is embezzled. The politicians and law makers crack jokes for a few hours and go home with outrageous incentives but for those who help young ones discover and develop their potentials to better the society go home with nothing. As for using old methods to teach, Be aware that the system is changing. Young lecturers with international experience are taking over. They can match any standard of teaching in the world. So keep quiet and play your part. Nigerian lecturers are the best.. you receive the value for your money paid..! 2 Likes |
