Victor Asemota says schooling in UK opened him up to a different perspective on lecturers. He is of the opinion that UK lecturers are more concerned with imparting knowledge and are eager to answer the questions of their students. On the other hand, students who dare question Nigerian lecturers are doomed. You call your lecturers by first name in the UK. In Nigeria you are doomed should you refer to a professor as Dr. I insist Leadership in Nigeria is a microcosm of our general society. 152 Likes 10 Shares |

OK? Why is that news to him? Is that the ONLY difference(s) he noticed schooling in the UK? He could as well have told us how they've got better infrastructures... How they're a developed nation... et al 7 Likes 1 Share

Bullying is central to African culture especially when it is done by an adult. If you dare complain you would be labelled as uncouth and rude. This is the root of abuse and corruption perpetrated by lecturers on our campuses 46 Likes 5 Shares |

Though it's rampant in Nigeria, it's simply a thing of the mindset. It's usually those lecturers who don't know their stuff that make class interactions difficult. 3 Likes |

That's how I went for IT, came back feeling so fly cuz i had an 100% upgrade on the outdated knowledge the department has been feeding us. On the last slide of my presentation I made a suggestion to my younger colleagues.... One lecturer picked offense as he felt I was showing myself... The bottom line is that my life in school neva remained the same again.... The way I failed that semester cha..... The scars of that incident still remain visible in my life till date... 56 Likes 4 Shares |

We are just sick in this country, PGD and MSc that are advertised as 18 months can never be 18 months, I have heard situations were PhD programs are being run for 8 years and counting. You hear the flimsy excuses by your supervisors that they did their program for five years and at that no individual would run less amount under their tutelage. We are our own problems walahi 28 Likes 2 Shares |

x @OP It is much of lecturers’ fault as it is the students’. Most importantly, the fault of Nigerian parents who stiffle independent thinking in their children while growing up. I try to create interactive classes & encourage my students to pursue different perspectives on topics. Interestingly, they tell me they want notes & imposition of my own perspectives on things. I was taught by my lecturers years ago that, in Humanities, there’s no wrong answer in scholarship as long as it can be argued with verifiable proof presented in a logical structure. I try to pass this on but Nigerian students are wired to look up to the lecturer to supply and then they recycle in tests/exams, a very draining & stupid thing. 22 Likes |
